📢 Let Your Voice Be Heard 📢 Share Your Story Here
Hi to everyone who is part of this awesome community!
During the discussions that I host every week in the Disability Support Room, I have heard a lot of you say that you want to share your story but just don't know how to... If that is you, then you have come to the right thread!
This is a safe place for you to educate others on the disability/disabilities you have, and share anything else that you would like to tell others about you. 😊
Here are some questions that can help you get started in sharing your story
- What disability/disabilities do you have? Tell us more about it
- How does it affect you/your daily life?
- Do you have support? If so, who do you have? If not, what support do you wish you did have?
- What things would you like to educate others on?
- What resources do you wish were on Cups that would help more people know about different disabilities
These are only a few questions to get you started but you're welcome to add more your post below or just share your story in your own way with out using any of these questions
So feel free to post below! Your voice does matter and you deserve to be heard

@beck1
Hi, Beck,
- What disability/disabilities do you have? Tell us more about it I have PTSD. I don't want to tell more about it. That is uncomfortable for me.
- How does it affect you/your daily life? It completely changed me. It erased the person I was. I am now someone new, trying to get to know who I am and make it through life and improve my mental health.
- Do you have support? If so, who do you have? If not, what support do you wish you did have? I have a new therapist. I don't have a psychiatrist in this new facility yet. I wish I had people in my real life who understood and enjoyed spending time with me.
- What things would you like to educate others on? I don't know.
- What resources do you wish were on Cups that would help more people know about different disabilities. I don't know.
Hey @purpleTree4652 Thank you for taking the time to share!
Thank you for sharing that you have PTSD. Totally understandable that you don't want to share more than that. Its important that you share only what you are comfortable with. 😊
I'm sorry to hear that it has changed you. When things get hard, do you have things you do that help you cope?
I'm glad to hear that you have a therapist. Do you get along with your therapist and feel like you can share what is going on for you with them? Finding people offline that understands is definitely hard sometimes. But I'm really glad that you're here!
You are all my hero’s. you give me strength each day you keep fighting.
You are all brave and courageous. Every day you get through is a victory for us all.
You are my companions. My friends and my brothers and sisters.
I will not give up no matter how hard because of each and every one of you.
So the moment you feel like you don’t contribute to this world, I’m here to tell you that you do. You all contribute to making my life better.
@Joe7cups
YOu make my life better because you fight with me. I am not alone because you are with me. You empathise and relate and understand
hi, I'm vv I'm female
I'm in my mid teans. my mom overdosed on drugs when I was 3 so I rarely get to see her. she is in a nursing home and on the days i do get to see her I get anxiety because I don't know what to say. she can't speak but she is able to move. I don't think she understands what we say when family talks to her but she will in her heart I hope. when I was with my mom my dad was not there at the time. he wasn't apart of my life at the begging. now he is here but not completely. I live with a different family member because I can't live with him. (yet). he spent some time in his life at jail so he wasn't really there. I suffer from depression I'm always sad and wondering if any of my family will get better. I also have alot of anxiety. when I think about past trama it really does hurt me alot from everything that has happend. I've tried to k!ll myself a couple years ago. I've ended up in the hospital because of it and I'm really just trying to be okay. i really want to find out what's all wrong with me.
note:
to everyone on here who is going through something I really wish you luck in getting better.💗 remember to speak up if you don't feel comfortable in a situation and love yourself. I hope everyone will soon get better.
Hey @deadndeadero ! Nice to meet you!
I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to your mom. That must be very difficult. I can imagine seeing your mom cause anxiety with her not being able to talk. Are you able to talk to anyone at the nursing home to see the best way to spend time with her? Is that something that would help the anxiety?
I'm sorry to hear that your dad wasn't really around in your life until now too. How do you feel about him being in your life now?
Depression can be really difficult. Its understandable that you feel the way you do considering everything you're going through right now.
Past trauma can be really hard to deal with... Have you checked out the Trauma Support Sub Community ? That could be a really great place for you to get some support for the trauma you have experienced ❤️
I have autism and cerebral palsy and ADHD. As well as cerebral palsy and PTSD. I have a lot of good supports. I really wish people were kinder to me, however. My pain gets extremely bad. It gets excruciating to the point where I cry myself to sleep almost every night.
Hey @hikari1988 ! Thanks for sharing!
I'm really glad that you have a good support network - that is very important! But I'm sorry to hear that people may not always be kind 😞 . I hope people on Cups are kind to you!!
I'm really sorry to hear that you have pain that causes you to cry too. That must be so incredibly difficult. In those times, what do you do to help deal with thoughts or feelings you may be having?
I did also want to let you know, in case you didn't know, that we do have an Autism Sub Community that you may find really helpful 😊
I am a below-the-knee amputee with a deformed right foot and two slightly deformed fingers. I had these since I was born.
Because of my right foot, I can't walk more than 20 mins most days without taking a break, and because of the improper use of my prosthetic leg when I was younger, my knee is very prone to dislocating whether I'm wearing my leg or not. It makes me very paranoid to wear my prosthetic leg because if I slightly tripped or slipped, my knee would most likely get dislocated. Because of my right foot deformity, I was forced to wear shoes without the insole when I was younger, causing a massive callus to form. Because of this callus, I now walk on tiptoes and get hip pain whenever I try to walk regularly.
My friends support me, especially when trying to get myself the mobility aids I need, and help me decide what steps to take.
I would like to educate others on how to treat children with disabilities and how to make their voices heard. There were so many times in my life when I felt ignored as a child, especially with mobility aids I think I needed. I am still fighting to get these mobility aids 9 years later.
