Deep Thoughts- Trading Away
There’s a moment in the third book in the “The Giver” series, where Matty (who lives in a rural village) wants a Gaming Machine (like a slot machine) like his friend has. His friend who lives with him says, “So we would trade reading, and music, for pulling a handle and getting candy from a mechanical device?” That makes Matty think twice about the trade-off.
So my question to you is… What are you trading away? It can be good or bad. Are you reading instead of gaming? Learning a language instead of Netflix? Or conversely, are you indulging in gossip instead of building others up? Choosing to pay attention to the negative instead of the positive? What is your trade-off?

I’m trading some of my support time for more freedom and free time because one of my support people is quitting.

lately i’ve been prioritizing myself more by avoiding situations that trigger or overwhelm me, and honestly it’s been a really good change. i used to force myself into things that left me anxious just to make others happy, but now i’m learning that protecting my peace is just as important. like if i know a convo or setting will stress me out, i’ll choose to take a step back and do something else instead.
on the flip side, i’ve definitely been trading good sleep for free time during the day 😭 i’ll end up doing everything super late at night and then just kind of zone out to unwind. it’s unintentional but definitely something i want to work on.
amazing prompt!! i really enjoyed reflecting with this one 🩷

I love this post, it definitely gets me thinking! A while ago I decided to give up watching TV series (I used to binge-watch Korean Dramas), and to trade it for reading again. There is some resistance in me to getting back into reading (my brain finds it harder!) and after some failed attempts at starting books, I finally managed to get really engrossed in Pride and Prejudice recently and I finished it in a few days - it's reminding me of how much I love reading! 🌻 But your post has convinced me to uninstall Neko Atsume, to try and trade it for more mindfulness and presence instead of addictive phone checks 😆
@jesusredeemedme2425 anything but sleep 😭

I'm trading time procrastinating with getting back to praying and spending more time in the Church 💕💜
I'm spending more time with loved ones rather than living in my own world all the time

lately, i've been trading reading novels with watching a series. i love getting back to reading soon though!
I traded something off... but it's a secret. I can say I have traded brain rot for actively being engaged with content I consume on social media like learning instead of brain rotting.
