35 & Over Room - Badge Lock
Hey everyone. I wanted to let you know that we will be badge-locking the 35 & Over room shortly. This is due to many reports about ongoing, unsupportive behaviour in this space.
To access the room, members must have one of the following badges: Helping Hand, Supportive Smile, Friendly Face, Wise One.
Listeners/moderators will be able to access as usual.
I will post below to confirm when this change has been made.
Thank you and happy chatting! :)
i don't really know what to do.can anyone please help me here@Heather
@Heather and everyone who really has any real interest. I spent time in this room tonight n the topic was overwhelmingly about This issue.. the age specifications and what it actually means for this room. It caused animosity towards a Moderator who was under 35 and was trying to clarify and interact with a member who is of the mindset that they want to be in a room with older people. This is an issue that unfortunately has and will continue to cause drama confusion and division among the users until there are SOLID and Enforced guidelines set for any room that has an age set to its name. I personally don't think its a bad thing to have a room for some of us..Older people to talk and not feel like we are dealing with issues we see as behind us and others we struggle with regarding aging..HOWEVER ..I don't know how this site would be able to pull off separating the community in such a way without it triggering more issues to arise with other rooms. We already have had rooms become "badge locked" but its not hard to get the badge key to get into them if you simply ASK. I really think its about time to go back to basics here. Its becoming more and more territorial as time goes on and I will also say that there is a hint of elitism starting regarding the "paid member" vs the free ones. Really? Are we going in the right direction? Are we doing this the best way for a site that is for support and INCLUSION?. I am begining to really question.
@Usednbrokenberrings I'm not sure why they would turn down a younger mod, who has the true power to remove a troll. Not many mods are available at any given time so you can't be too picky about what you get...
@Phthalo
if you fear that you might be labeled as the "troll" it can be cause for alarm.
@Phthalo the issue they had was the mods age not the fact it was a mod. It was immature.
For a older person who was getting things clarified and still simply took issue with the Age. It's a bit of an issue
@Usednbrokenberrings I think you have stated extremely well what issues are at the heart of the problems and also the difficulties surrounding fixing them, or the inability to fix them.
Thank you!
@Heather Hi I am new to 7 cups and really enjoyed the 35 and over group. How do I get one of these badges? Thank you.
@Theaterlily30
hey. You just have to chat in the other rooms :) you'll have the badge in no time
@Theaterlily30 These badges are earned by compassion hearts and how many messages you have sent in group rooms. Supportive Smile is earned for completing 50 group chats and earning 150 compassion hearts. Friedly Face is earned by completing 100 group chats and earning 300 compassion hearts. Helping Hand earned for completing 200 group chats and earning 600 compassion hearts. Wise One is earned for completing 500 group chats and earning 1500 compassion hearts! So start getting chatty and be very compassionate and you'll be able to earn these badges soon! (Only though you only need Supportive Smile technically) Best of luck! <3
@Liv
i dont spend that kind of time here to earn these said badges... how unfair is that to anyone who doesnt want to become a "lifer" no offence, but they should have a mod there 24/7... if people whom frquent the room daily, make them an admin or moderator, whatever it takes to keep the room safe?
@KeepItSimpleStupid I understand that it may be hard to earn these badges so Heather may do something else. Now, I know it seems like having a mod there 24/7 would help but mods are volunteers and they don't spend all their time on here, let alone in one room. I would say just be patient and we will see what happens! Some rooms on that side are bade locked, meaning you need a badge you can get by commenting on a forum post and you'll unlock the room. Maybe that will come about with this room, sooner or later. Until then, you can try to earn the Supportive Smile or use some of the other rooms. I wish you the best of luck! <3
@Liv People always throw around the "they're just volunteers" excuse but even volunteers have allocated slots of time. I'm sure the admin could put a little more effort into having the moderation being more organized with making at least one on the site at any given time. People are on this site from all over the world. Surely it can be done?
And I think the only room that is locked until you post on a forum is thinking space...and surely we all know how supportive those people are...and if it's they who are causing this mess then it won't take long for them to get back into the room.
@Phthalo I know thinking space has had it's problems and there are a few who hang out there often and cause trouble in other rooms. I think it is worth pointing out though that there are people who are in thinking space fairly often who are kind and supportive to others! I've had some good conversations when I've checked out that room before.
@AffyAvo
agreed! Thinking space can be nice.
I would like to get in the 35 and order room please
@Beachbum01
To get access to this room you just need to get the first badge, so just keep chatting in the other rooms and eventually you will get the badge. I believe you can now get in with a group chimer... so 5 group chats to get it
good ida and i am geting use to the changeis on here
Hello all! I'm new to 7 cups and a member of the 40+ club. I'm not sure if this will post since I'm new and all, but I wanted to say Hello to everyone!
Boy this room is dead since 2016 in Nov was the last posting. What good is it if I will talking to myself. Later. You need kinda 2 or more people to interact in a group, you know.
@Melanie3760
This forum post was just an informative one regarding adding a badge lock to the 35+ room. If you check out the chatroom 35+ is a really active room and you are welcome to stop by and have a chat. It looks like you may need to earn the badge to gain access to the room. I believe the requirements are 5 group chats, with each chat being 25 sent messages.
Is anybody actually here to chat about things?
@adaptablePineapple4484 The Forum section is much slower in terms of back and forth discussion about topics. If chat that happens quicker than hour to hour is what you're looking for, your better options are to try group support chats, and Member-Listener One on One chats.
Good luck locating the level you're looking for, and nice to meet you!
@adaptablePineapple4484
There are forum feeds that people do have a bit of back and forth. But this forum post was really just an informative one regarding the badge lock so there wasn't much to discuss. As @ladylazarus1971 suggested there is faster paced chats in the chat room or find a forum thread that has a topic that is more conducive to discussion.
It's hard to find a place to talk to people that can relate to the things I'm going through. I want to share experiences with people to help us all grow. How do I get access to the 35+ hats and such?
@FatCat17
You need to get the Group Chimer badge, you need to participate in 5 group chat sessions it takes 25 messages per session.
@Heather How many growth points are required to access the 35 &up room?
