Update: Discussion Script Approval Process
Howdy howdy 7 Cups Community!
I wanted to share an update in regards to member group support discussion approval!
In order to maintain consistency and quality in our discussions across the community, as well as to be sure discussion topics and scripts are relevant, up to date, and safe, we require that all discussion scripts be submitted to the Group Support Leadership team for approval. All discussions, whether new or revised, must be submitted for review and approval.
We have decided to establish a chain of leadership for discussion approval to ensure that our teams are working cohesively and that team leaders are aware of new team content and activity. We hope that this chain of leadership will help improve and maintain better and more effective communication between leaders and within group support teams.
Previously, anyone could submit discussion scripts that they wrote on behalf of their teams. Now, discussion scripts will only be reviewed if submitted by a current Support Team Leader for the team. This does not mean only leaders may write scripts, but means that writers must share their scripts with leaders to submit for approval on the team's behalf, rather than every writer submitting their own scripts alone. This will go into effect beginning Monday, July 19th.
- Please allow a minimum of 3 days for your STL to respond to your request.
- If you’re not able to contact an STL for your team, you may reach out to a Community Mentor (CM) to submit on your team’s behalf.
- If you're not able to contact a CM, you may contact a Community Mentor Leader (CML) to submit on your team’s behalf.
- If you’re not able to contact a CML, please contact @LuLuRings about submitting scripts for your team.
When submitting a script for approval, please be sure to use THIS FORM. There is a maximum of 3 scripts per week allowed per team to allow the Group Support Leadership team ample time to review scripts. Please see THIS GUIDE for information on writing discussion scripts. Please note: discussions are reviewed weekly on Fridays. If a script is submitted on Friday after 12pm ET, it will be reviewed the following week. Please contact @LuLuRings if a script is in need of urgent review (i.e. a script written and needed for an event within the week).

@LuLuRings I feel like this gives a disproportional amount of power to the community leader. I disagree with this change and I would like to ask you to reconsider.

@StarlitSky4762 I agree with you in some ways in regards to your concern. I understand your perspective and concern completely as well. Due to this change, it appears that everyone had a voice when it came to the submission of valuable feedback. Now only the leaders will have that option. It is true that that gives them an amount of power. With that power, they will have options. The options consist of what what they choose to do with the feedback that they get from members. So basically they are being put to the test to see how representative they are when it comes to the members needs and concerns. As a result, the focus will be on the leaders abilities, effectiveness, actions and how they handle concerns. This is time for them to be held accountable for the positions that they hold. In order to make this work effectively, members need to apply pressure to leaders to take necessary action in order for them to act on their behalf. This is an opportunity for leaders to improve themselves and develop their leadership skills more. It is also an opportunity to see which leaders are the right fit for their positions. Over the time and stresses, these things will be brought to the surface and the necessary changes will be made.
@peacefulIris56 With this process, anyone is still welcome to write and create content for their teams. It's more or less, the leader would be the liaison, speaking on behalf of the team, so they would be charged with relaying information or submitting scripts on behalf of the team, rather than several people submitting at once without speaking with their teammates. Having a central person to run scripts by before sending for approval is meant to encourage better, more effective communication within teams so that everyone is aware of who is creating content and what type of content is being created. Especially since submissions are capped at 3 per team per week, it's better for communication so everyone is aware of team actions so that someone doesn't submit a script without knowing that the team's already submitted 3 that week, for example.

Speaking for my own style as a leader in the community, I think about it more in terms of presenting the best script we can for approval. To me, that means a collaboration between the writer and myself. Sometimes that could mean re-wording a question that is perhaps too broad or too narrow, plus proofreading (I know I've made spelling errors when I write). For me, the intention is not to veto a script. Rather, it is a way to ensure we're sending our best, quality script out for final approval.
@PeaceLoveandPaws I love this point of view! Encouraging collaboration with team leaders and increasing quality, rather than a leader having all the power and vetoing actions.
I already did it for my team. Before I did approve them for my team, then now just send them for approval.
