Course 2, Discussion 1: Understanding your Leadership Style
Hello everyone,
If you are reading this, it means you have come a long way in your leadership training. Kudos to you for all the effort and resilience you have shown! It is amazing how you all are open to learning and adapting to new environments: the environment of leadership!
Before we zoom in and talk more about learning and adapting, lets zoom back out first and talk about how you feel about leadership. Regardless of how you see yourself, there is a leader within you. The one who visualizes how things could have run in a better way if you were in the leading spot. Leading spot here means:
A desire for change
Believing you got the abilities to make it happen
Visualizing success while keeping in mind the bigger picture.
Lets take a look at the leadership styles as proposed by Daniel Goleman

Your original style could be any of them. So for the purpose of this course, we are going to use a leadership style test to help you identify your core competencies. In brief, we are using the test here to help you identify your leadership approach. So, when you know how you approach an event, you could think and put efforts to bring a change in it. It will allow you to polish your strengths and focus to improve in other different areas as well.

I am a Visionary! I´ve been told this once in a while.
I scored high in a couple areas (which was surprising) but the highest and more accurate result was affiliative leadership.
So many of the traits absolutely hit home - positive feedback comes very easy to me. I feel this helps create a sense of trust and respect in a supportive, welcoming, and harmonious environment.
However, some of the more negative traits, especially avoiding conflict or negative confrontations, definitely describes me. It can be a problem when issues need to be addressed and/ or corrected. If I shy away from acknowledging these situations, it can create a very unbalanced environment that lacks structure and growth.
Seeing these traits laid out in such a clear and relatable way makes it easier to see my strengths but also areas that can be improved.

I scored highest for Coaching and Affiliative (both 27 out of 35)
I agree with this, I do try and cultivate relationships and avoid performance-related confrontations. I trust people to know what to do and do it. In fact, I would help individuals develop by providing support

Ans. Don't agree with it totally as the quiz was based employer mostly. Many of answers were based on what could have been if I were in that position. Not have to be accurate always on reality

Secondly, Yes, the results make sense. The combination of Visionary and Coaching leadership fits someone who values purpose, growth, and collaboration. It shows you’re driven by long-term goals and care about developing others along the way. Even though your other scores are also strong, these two styles stand out as your natural strengths.

Democratic was my overall highest score at 34 points, with pacesetting and affiliative tying for second at 33 points each. I think that is a pretty accurate representation, though I disagree that pacesetting is a bad thing, as it was presented in the lesson. Of course, there is a toxic level to it once you reach a certain point, but it is very important to have deadlines and actually get things done, which is what that seems to be majorly.
