What motivates you to self-care and how often are you taking care of yourself?
Ideally motivation comes from an intrinsic place and is all the time as I recover from heatstroke and food poisoning.
How could you take better care of yourself if needed?
I mean I probably could stop drinking so much hot chocolate or coffee, or eating chocolate things when I'm allergic to it and about a bazillion degrees on the inside and about to poop myself.

Not very often.
How could you take better care of yourself if needed?
Finding motivation to do it, or the inner strength and energy to consistently force myself beyond my fears to do it, regardless of how miserable and fatalistic I feel.
- I can definitely say what motivates me to provide self-care for myself, is when I notice that I am over extending myself more than necessary
- I take care of myself daily, that's a nonnegotiable habit that I refuse to let go lol
- Like they always say "Sound mind.Sound Body."

I haven't been taking care of myself properly these days, that's why I want to start somewhere. I've been procrastinating going to the gym, so I think I could start from there 🌟

Doing something good for your body helps the mind too so great idea! When is gym on your this week's schedule? 😉
What motivates you to self-care and how often are you taking care of yourself?
What motivates me to take care of myself is my kid and my partner honestly. I've been diagnosed with depression & PTSD, but my family (son & partner) are the reason I try to take care of myself, so I can take care of them and make sure they have a good life. In terms of how often I take care of myself...It's hard to say. In certain aspects, I take care of myself everyday and in others, I am negligent. For example, I have quit drinking alcohol & smoking MJ, so that is a conscious decision I make everyday--plus going to ongoing hospital visits to fix my health. However, in terms of eating, I lack appetite and some days I do good with eating but my other days, not so much. At the least, I will force myself to drink protein shakes to ensure I have something in my stomach, at the very least. I try to do what I can with the energy I have.

Not sure how to answer this...I think I'm doing what I can. There are some days where I really can't do much because of my chronic pain and mental issues, so I let it be a "rest day". Although, once I have the energy and willpower, I do what I need to do. I continuous try to improve and hope I can regain my health back soon. I'm embarrassed that I went from a healthy weightlifter to someone who is in constant pain and can hardly move. Even going for a walk gives very sharp chest/rib pain. I've been going to the doctor to find a cure, and waiting on authorization to get the medicine I need. Taking pain relievers isn't helping me...it's very temporary. That is why I used to drink and smoke MJ to help relieve the pain (temporarily), but I don't want to go back to those methods and won't ever again. I want to be a good role model for my kiddo and be as healthy as I can. I'm trying everyday by fighting those demons and intrusive thoughts in my head everyday and trying to fight back against the pain.

It takes a lot of strength to cope with depression & PTSD and I hope coming here helps you. When we love people like you love your son & partner we want to be able to support them and be a good role model for the kids. This can be a great motivation to self care. So glad to hear that this is the case for you! I hope your appetite will get better so that your body does not miss out on nutrients. Good protein drinks can definitively help so that's a good idea in my view.
I can relate to feeling bad (but it was more sadness, not anymore though) at looking back at how you were once as a weightlifter. You mentioned though that you were healthy at that time and did not have all the pains. Once I was a very fast squash player, today I can't even go for a run anymore but need to walk (knees). This is something I learned to accept.
What motivates self care for me is my pets and the people who love and care about me and thinking about how if I love others the greatest way I could show them is by loving myself. I try every moment of everyday to take care of myself and ask myself what I need and I try to live my life 100% for myself.
I do think I could do a better job specifically with negative self talk and thinking badly about myself and being able to retrain my thought pattern about myself. I also think another way I could take better care of myself is withholding firmer boundaries and getting better at standing up for myself and stating my needs to others and not care about what they think of me.

Setting and maintaining good boundaries as well as improving your inner dialogue is an important part of self-care too! I believe that learning to love ourselves more helps with changing the way we talk to ourselves so I would like to give you this video link

What motivates me to self care and how often I take care of myself?
Wanting to be better than yesterday motivates me constantly. Through this year, my goal has been constant self reflection, looking into how I react to people and emotions, slowly adopting a calmer approach and spending more time in meditation and self development. My family constantly and gently motivates me as well.
How could I take better care?
By being consistent in my new habits so that I get stronger at being calm. Trying more to meditate reach morning and journal each evening without fail. It helps calm my mind and brain dump all my anxiety but if I'm too wound up, I lose focus on these rituals.

What motivates you to self-care and how often are you taking care of yourself?
Lately I have been taking time out of my day to do things that I like and enjoy. Things I usually wouldn't do before, and really taking care of myself and my health. Why, because I deserve it. I didn't think I did before and I honestly didn't think it was possible to love myself because I just had this deep self-hatred. However, I came to this point where I felt the people around didn't really love me or care for me. I can't make these people care or love me, but I can choose whether or not I want to love myself. As scary as it was and still is I wanted to start caring for myself and treating myself right. I started eating more healthy, exercising, meditating, and engaging in activities that I like. While the self-hatred doesn't just disappear overnight and I still struggle with it a bit, I definitely think my self-image has improved a lot from doing so.

It's a journey for sure, and everyone goes at their own pace. The one aspect of self-care I am scared to practice is boundary setting. That can be quite a sensitive topic in my household and there will be a lot of push back on it. However, I am getting a little tired of the panic attacks and physical and mental toll it's taking on me not to. So, I am going to keep trying on that and pray things get better as time goes on.
@JollyRacher You hang in there Jolly. You're right, everyone goes at their own pace. You are strong, I'm so proud you've made it this far. This proves you can accomplish the unimaginable.
(I am putting all this as my reply because I can relate to you so much! I've gone through the same thing! Yes, setting boundaries is hard, but trust me, when necessary, it helps the relationships between you and your family members more than you could ever know. It teaches everyone a lesson. I've started putting boundaries up too, and sometimes I'm not sure, sometimes I wonder if I'm causing more hurt than healing, but I can slowly feel the weight lifting off me as I do it. I didn't realize how much I was putting out and not caring for me, but after all my pain, I feel like I've overcome so much.)
i am motivated by self care because i know you should only be giving from an overwhelming well, not one that is depleted. taking care of myself allows me to be a listener here on 7 cups. so, in fact i am motivated by that. ever since i can remember i’ve wanted to help others.
i learned the hard way. i definitely had to grow! start with baby steps like breathing exercises. there are loads on the internet. being able to take deep breaths is very important and useful in crisis situations. and it is good for your overall mental and physical heath. ☀️☀️☀️
