Hello everyone! How are you all doing today?

I was wondering how many of you like to listen to music?

Do you know what? You can actually practice mindfulness by listening to music. You probably do know that music is a healer. It helps you feel better when you are stressed.

So, you can actually use it to become mindful.

But how? It is simple and easy.

All you need to do is pick a song from your playlist. Listen to it. Listen to every word. Acknowledge and understand the meaning of it. And most importantly, notice how it made you feel?

Isn't that easy? Listen to music and observe while enjoying it.

And, guess what, you can use music to manage your anxiety too. It helps.

So, let me know how music helped you to be mindful or how do you feel when you listen to a particular song? Or anything in between.

Good morning Mindfulness Community with Obs!! heart

@LilyBlossom21

I also found music to be really helpful when I was in school. I have a hard time concentrating and get easily distracted, which was particularly annoying when I had to stay up late to write papers. I found an instrumental studying album and found that there was a specific track that helped me. I could put this certain track on repeat and write papers for the longest time, staying completely focused. It was really interesting to me. Something in that melody worked with my brain to help me concentrate- it was great!

Check in

Hello everyone! How are you all doing today?

Doing alright thank you.

I was wondering how many of you like to listen to music?

I love music, not only in my personal life like when I walk my dogs or do work but in the lives of my students. I often have a background of classical in my classroom or acoustic versions of songs. My students find it soothing, helpful when studying, and enjoyable to relax to as they learn.

I love to listen to music and to create my own music on the piano. It can speak volumes of emotion that words cannot express. Sadness, joy, expectation, triumph, defeat, tension, peace, excitement, sensuality, catastrophe, conflict, renewal and so many other feelings but the way it speaks them is louder than words.

@ASilentObserver

When I was a younger Misty, I used to play classical music to my horses and it calmed them, when they were lonely or on their own in a stable I would play a talk show on the radio and it calmed them, it was amazing to see the difference.
Music is so important in our lives, I was watching the Fantastic Four film last night and Sue (invisible lady) said that music is all about patterns, so take that a bit further and the brain sub-consciously seeks patterns and then expects that pattern to continue so by playing music we are occupying a part of our sub-conscious thus calming us overall Slightly smiling

@ASilentObserver awesome post here-thank you! I actually done this for mindfulness today. My older one who is autistic was really triggering some parent triggers in me. So nothing I used was helping. I tried!! So turned on some pop-rock and there I went into another world. Yes I could still hear her and stuff-but I was not irritated or triggered. I think I became Dolly Parton-lol

Hello everyone! How are you all doing today?

Hello there! I am doing fairly okay, given the circumstances. Slowly, but surely, things are getting better though!

I was wondering how many of you like to listen to music?

I, for one, listen to music quite a bit, as well as poetry. It is really awesome to hear that you can practice mindfulness while listening to music, it seems so simple that it wasn't even a thought that it could help. Now that I have found this out I will definitely be practicing mindfulness more!

Thank you for this lovely information, I can't wait to implement this into my day!

This post was so helpful to me yesterday. I was having a particularly difficult day with a lot of strong emotions and I was having an even more difficult time finding a way to calm myself and work through those feelings. There was such a strong mixture of sadness with some grief and anger that I had a hard time breathing mindfully at first. I also felt incredibly anxious because I was having a hard time identifying the initial trigger for these feelings. It felt sudden and my mind was in a panic.

But thankfully I read your post and I do truly believe that there is healing to be found in music. Finally, I was able to lay down in the dark in my bedroom- I closed the door, put a cool pack over my eyes and put one of my favorite tracks on repeat from an instrumental album that I have. There are ocean waves in the background to the music, so I began breathing in and out to the rhythm of the waves. I imagined that every key played on the piano was a gentle tap on my forehead and every touch was for healing, clarity and calmness. I thought through the day to identify some of the thoughts and feelings that I had. Then I was able to be at peace with those strong emotions that I felt. I slept so soundly last night and I feel ready to face this new day. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for this thoughtful post yesterday, because it found me at such a crucial time. Thanks so much.

Hey Obs,

Sorry for late reply to this check in!

I am doing well ready for vacation this weekend. I do not listen to music, only when I am with other people or to drown out background noise. I am more of a person who listens to guided meditations, and more structured (not the best word choice) But anything audio that is something I can easily try to connect to my life and learn from it, not that I find music as a bad thing I am just way to busy to listen to it but try to when I can.
