Whenever you've been hurt by others, it is not easy to process your emotions and let it go. However, also holding onto it isn't easy as it makes the feeling more worse. Resentment can cause mental and physical illness too. So, it is not good in any way.

Not forgiving is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

So, it seems when things are not great, forgiveness is a way through which you may reduce the pain. So, how could we be mindful to practice mindfulness? That's what I would like to discuss with you.

Hello Awesome Community!! smiley How are we doing?

So, to practice forgiveness, we need to start with understanding forgiveness. Forgiveness means putting off the burden of pain and stress of holding on to the resentment. Just release it. In other words, making peace with whatever happened.

Feel your emotion and label it to forgive yourself better. Until and unless you don't know how you are feeling and what the emotion is, you can't forgive yourself or other.

If the hurt feelings bottled up inside, it not going to work and cause you additional stress. So, whatever the outlets available to you, let it come out and release it from your mind space. Probably you can put it in journal if there is no one you can talk about it.

Shift your focus on something good and start small to make your mind engage in new thoughts and set of activities. Focusing on pain will make you feel it more. Try to focus somewhere else and do something that interests you to keep your mind off from the resentment.

Have patience in practice forgiveness because it may take time to show up the results. Forgiveness isn't the quick solution to fix everything. It's a process so practice more mindfulness and unlock the capacity to forgive.

So, forgiveness is important for us to be mindful of present moment.

What is one thing for which you would want to forgive yourself or someone today? Share with us. Also, do you have some tips and ways to practice forgiveness proactively?

Waiting to hear you!! Thank you heart

@ASilentObserver I struggled with forgiveness for a long time. It just did not seem right to me to forgive those that violated my basic human rights until I discovered another phrase that helped me go beyond that problem.

Release them became my new catch phrase because when I let go of them then I no longer focused on them and my fixation with them started to diminish.

And then when I thought I had something I realized how hard it was for me to try to let go. So I found a new way in mindfulness to release without thinking of releasing by refocusing my attention on something else. So who knows maybe that will be the way out but if not I will welcome some new insight.

So I guess rather than try to forgive, release, let go or stop obsessing with something or someone, I will just focus on my breathing or the warm spring day or the flowers blooming. Mindfulness is so much easier for me in Spring than in Winter! LOL

Nice one, its like what you have said I totally relate to. Be in the present moment by focusing on breathing, everything else become irrelevant.

@silentObserver

Release them! Wonderful and simple and easy to think about.

Forgiveness isn't forgetting but it is taking some of the burden from us. It really is forgiving ourselves for being put in that situation. I always say that we can learn from the situation, take the lessons and learn from them and then move on leaving the experience behind u and moving on mindfully can help us to moves those pictures of the past from our mind's eye and instead fill it with new wonderful pictures.

And yes Spring has the bounty of renewal and brighter days! So far easier to be mindful in the warmth :)

I am sending the mindfulness community some of my spring primrose energy x

Aren't they beautiful!

@soulsings awesome thoughts Soul. Forgiveness not exactly means we forgiving the person. Probably not. But just releasing the burden from your shoulders to let it go and feel light. And forgiveness is a process. I appreciate how releasing and letting ho help you to focus on other good things.

@Chocolateandcakes i know cakes. Thinking about pain actually make you think more of it and when such thoughts in mind, your body also react as feeling more pain. So having a distraction to bring your mind on positive track is a good idea. Thank you for sharing it with us

I think the DBT concept of radical acceptance can be really important when cultivating forgiveness. Whatever it was that happened, it's in the past now. There's absolutely nothing you can do to change it. By getting angry and thinking that a situation should never have happened, you're missing the point that it did happen. Dealing with that isn't easy and it's okay to be upset but being overly critical or beating yourself up isn't helpful. All you can do is accept that what's done is done. Instead of ruminating, try focusing on what you can do right now to better your situation in moving forwards from this.
