I tried a long walk on the beach,

Long Walks on the Beach

The first time I tried,

A long walk on the beach,

One by one,

My friends found me that night.

Confided in me,

Journeyed with me.

Everything that haunted them,

I sent it all off to sea,

To let them enjoy the view,

Of right now,

Just hours after a dolphin confided in me,

Inches away,

Having jumped two stories to meet me,

To share the awesomeness of nature.

I’d been graced by every presence,

Passed everything that could have been a test,

And I was in good company.

Returning years later,

Another long walk on the beach,

But this time it was darker,

Dolphins stopped coming near here,

My friends were in bed,

Having had plenty to eat and drink.

Something else found me,

Something else walked with me,

It reminded me that horizons were tangible,

And promised that unnameable things were ready,

For me to find and enjoy.

It held my hand and walked me closer,

Every time the waves splashed over my feet,

They dragged gently back to their source.

I took it as a lesson for my life,

But I didn't let it lure me into the deep,

And it calmly let go with an unreadable gaze.

Another test passed… for now...

I found myself in good company again.

Your poem is amazing, it paints such a simple but weight-bearing scene 

Here's my poem, very much inspired by your own: 

I dream, often, of the sea—
Standing by, watching the waves crash ashore,
Holding, as it seems, the secret of everything.
I close my eyes
And instantly, the wind greets me
With whispers of sirens singing.
It is the moon's realm—
The Lunar pull that controls it;
The tide that mezmerizes.
We call the creatures sea beasts,
But the only beast in those waters
Is my nakedly honest reflection.
The waters seek to embrace me—
But I, dreaming, remain bound evermore
Standing –simply– by the sea. 

Okay, you got me.

I had to take you up on the challenge.

Here goes nothing.

Somewhere there is an end to the ocean,

But I am still waiting to see it.

The lifeguard watches me.

Boy, I wish I could fly

Or at least fall into someone’s arms.

I want to take in all that the ocean has to offer -

Receive it with an open hand.

If I let the ocean lead me, where will I end up?

I want to understand

As I am soaking in the sun and the waves.
