Leadership Spotlight: QuietMagic!
Hello, everyone! Hope 2022 is being kind to you so far! Weβre kicking off this year by honoring one of our long-time community members!

Why are you nominating this person?
Josh has done a fair bit around the site plus in the Personality Support Community. They did some forum analysis to see what areas needed more help plus have been putting out some amazing content in the personality support forums.
In 3 words, QuietMagic is: empathetic, problem-solver, dependable

Thanks for encouraging so many of us!
-
We also asked Josh some questions to get to know him a little better!
A quote that inspires you:
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I change." -Carl Rogers
Some favorite songs?
I love hundreds of songs so I can't pick a clear favorite. The most recent songs I've been listening to on repeat are "Seven A.M." by The Blue Nile (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQrux-vc9IY) and "Carry Bag Man" by The Fall (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfu-jB7Kxoc).
Proudest 7 Cups achievement?
I feel a sense of accomplishment anytime I'm talking with someone really distrustful/cynical/misanthropic and they end up feeling comfortable sharing things with me. Sort of like, "I hate everybody but I guess you're not quite as awful as most people." π
Fun fact! I heard a funny story from my parents about me when I was 4. I was in preschool and I didn't want to sit in the circle with the other kids because I was bored. One of the assistant teachers was concerned that I wasn't understanding and suggested having me repeat preschool. The head teacher's response was, "Nah, he could probably teach the class."
One piece of advice for the community:
Instead of saying "I understand", prove that you understand by reflecting/paraphrasing what has been said.
Congrats Josh!! And thank you for the phenomal advice π
@WarmLightXO
@Quietmagic Congrats, Josh, on this well-deserved recognition. Josh was there for me when I was a brand new, tentative listener. He helped me build confidence, which was everything as I acclimated to how to truly listen and react through interacting with an eclectic group of members.
@MidwesternCalmSeeker
Thanks so much! π I could only list one thing for "proudest accomplishment", but way up there would be seeing people like you just completely crushing it and doing amazing stuff and feeling like maybe I had some small contribution in making that happen (or at the very least not scaring people like you away). π
@WarmLightXO
Thanks! Glad that it felt like reasonable advice, haha.
Congratulations, @QuietMagic! So well-deserved β€οΈThank you for being a part of this community!
@anotherfrenchtoastclub
Thanks, Toast!
@QuietMagic An accomplishment went deserved for you Magic! Thank you for all that you do π
@CheeryMango
Thank *you* for supporting me with all things forum/PD related in the past several months! π
Woohoo! I'm so happy to see this! Congratulation, Josh, you deserve it yaaay! ππππ€©π
Man, I'm smiling so wide when typing this because finally 7 Cups recognizes and acknowledges one of the best listeners on this site. And to me, you're simply the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, and yes I'm singing a song by Tina Turner because that's just how Josh is; he shows you that life can be kind, colorful, weirdly interesting, and without doubt -that a perfect stranger can offer a safe space to another stranger, a safe space to talk/vent/rant/angry even cry. Josh reminds you that it's okay to feel, it's okay to be vulnerable, it's okay to say no, it's okay to set boundaries, and that it's okay to just be who you are, even when you're not liking yourself much, he probably able to make you think that you are okay, you are fine, and there's nothing wrong with you; and that's just how awesome he is! β€οΈ
He is the most authentic, genuine, and smartest person I've ever met. He's also helpful, perfectionist in his own way, and when he cares about something, he really cares, and I really think that 7 Cups is so damn lucky to have a volunteer like Josh because he's so dedicated in everything he does on this site. Seriously, when you have someone that great in your life, you won't let him go, you don't, you just can't! And that's why I'm so grateful to know Josh here, I feel so lucky and blessed altogether to find someone like him on my very first day on 7 Cups and hopefully he will be forever on this site; amen! πππ
Your forever admirer,
~UG~
@UndomesticGoddess
Wow, I'd love to meet this amazing, superhuman person you're describing. π
Haha, but seriously, a lot of the things you've attributed to me are things I hope people think of me, so it makes me happy that I've managed to create that kind of impression... the things you've said about dedication, safety, and especially there being nothing wrong. Also, I want that "kind, colorful, weirdly interesting" as my epitaph... that's pretty amazing. π
@Heather225
Congrats! and *high fives* πβ€οΈ
@SparkyGizmo
Thanks Gizzie!
@Heather225 @QuietMagic
congratulations Josh, you definitely deserve this shout out (me still notices all the posts of mine you have upvoted π). *cheers* keep up the great job ^-^ ππ»ππ»ππ»
@emotionalTalker2260
Lol, thank you. I guess there are just a handful of threads that I monitor for upvotes and you happen to get caught in the crossfire pretty often. π
@QuietMagic
π lol, caught in the crossfire, I love that expression XD
@Heather225
congratulations @quietmagic !! this is so well deserved - thank you for all that you do β€οΈ
@EmmaE
Thank you, Emma!
@Heather225
Oooh yayy this is very much well deserved *-* I really like how this program acknowledges all those people who are never appreciated enough for all that they have done and keep doing, in my opinion.
@QuietMagic that quote is one my favourites too XD it was fun and insightful reading everything else you've said as well! If anyone doesn't know you, all it'd take for them to be in awe of your massive efforts and dedication would be to visit the PD Support Community (among other areas of course), it just shows. From what I have seen in forums, I just love the way you listen lol, you inspire me and I genuinely mean it. I don't know if it's just me but something else I have noticed from is how subtly and gently you set boundaries and I find that cool. Not to forget your amazing organizational skills. π€― I also like the "Listening Values" section in your bio, it's just beautiful. XD Got to dash now but wish you the best in everything on and off 7 Cups! Congratulations, again! β€οΈ
@theriverissinging
Thanks, River! Yeah, all of the previous spotlight people are ridiculous/amazing, so to be included in the same group with those people is pretty awesome.
Wow, you've pointed out a bunch of things that I either had no idea I was doing (i.e. gentle boundaries) or that I've worked hard at and put effort into but assumed it was just for my own self-satisfaction and nobody was paying attention to it. π I've been admiring your forum posts too for a while.
@Heather225 congratulations, @QuietMagic ! thank you for everything you do for the community <3 you are awesome !
@rrretsuko
Thank you!
