Hi everyone. I hope this is a thread that everyone from any religious background can relate to and participate in by posting a quotation from your spiritual tradition that people from any religious background could relate to. For example:

  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Yes Soul - you're quote is from the Bible and in Mark 12.31 it is even more aggressive: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

@Helgafy yes and an even more assertive quote is "Love thine enemies."

Philippians: Don't worry about anything but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart!

@compassionateCar7091

Thank you so much for reminding me of this verse today. I also like the verse that comes after your quote, Phil. 4.7:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me.

Slave meaning those in service to him..

If we think God will be compassionate, forgiving and kind towards us, he will be. If we think he can heal us and can help us achieve what we want to achieve or be where we want to be, he will. He will be with us whenever we remember him.

@Sasher I remember in the book of Ruth her attendant said (paraphrased "Wherever you go I will follow." That is real devotion.

Thanks for sharing.

@Soulsings nice. Not sure of the connection between the two though?

One is god saying he is always there for us and he well be what ever we expect of him - an the other is a human devoting their time and obedience to serve another human?

@Sasher

Hi Sasher. I was thinking the same as you as to do with what @soulsing wrote. Maybe also soul - when you quote from the Bible you have to say it is the Bible. I guess not everybody knows that Ruths book is one of the 66 (?) books in the Bible. So - here is the meaning of the Bibleverse you quoted:

“Where you go I will go”

RUTH 1:16

About this Quote

In this verse Naomi has told Ruth to return to her people in Moab as she is going back to Jerusalem. Ruth replies: “Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” (NIV).

Hiya @Helgafy - I understood it was from the bible. So she said to God she will follow God, or she said to Ruth she will follow Ruth?

@Helgafy - ah, I think I get it now. It is Ruth pledging allegiance to Niomi (and that which Niamo pledges allegiance to).

I'm still not sure how that connects with the first post I wrote about God telling us he is always there for us?

@Soulsings, is it that both are showing devotion to God?

@Sasher devotion and service to a person is considered service to all. For me caring about others takes me out of the self centered attitude that is very confining and almost like a prison.

By having compassion on others and trying to benefit others I feel like I answer a high spiritual calling.

Lol Sasher. Much writing about this. I agreed in your writing " Not sure of the connection between the two though?

@Helgafy I am not certain but in my mind when I was growing in my Christian faith, I equated serving my fellow man with serving god.

“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Source: https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Love,-Of-Fellow-Man

@Soulsings gosh this is getting confusing.

I'm still not sure why you responded with that particular quote regarding the book of Ruth *scratches head*

I do hope you don't think there's anything wrong with the quote that the prophet muhammad shared.

@Sasher

You're talking of faith in God here Sasher. Maybe the most important thing to learn. My dream is always to stay (through Jesus Christ who made us right before God because he bore all our faults to the cross) so close to Him that I can feel his love for me. You're a wonderful person Sasher.

It's not nice to feel distant from him

But alway deeply reassuring to be close to him.
