We need a christian chatroom since there is so much HATE!!!!
I have been on this site from since last year and am thinking of becoming a listener. I have an issue.I want to talk about God or Jesus based on my experience and also want to help those who are really contemplating whether they want to live because nothing seems to help.
I thought that this site was welcoming for everyone but it does not seem that way. I have been attacked by alot of people in the chatroom one time for just saying Jesus's name without saying anything else. It is ashame that me and other christians dont feel welcomed here and this is a place for the hurt and the helping....
So I demand, since We cant talk at all about even saying Jesus name without someone having "triggers", would appreciate if the creator of this site would make a chatroom where we can be open to talk about religion without so much hate.No one was even speaking about hate while mentioning God to others. I also wont accept the "well since you will be a listener you can talk to someone one on one about it" One person said that this site is "SECULAR"!! So that means we are not welcomed here...
So please, make a chatroom in the future for people with an open-mind and an open heart to expand and to allow others to feel WELCOMED HERE.
Thank you :)
If they made one for one religions theyd have to make one for all religions and they dont have enough moderator speaking from an atheist standpoint thats a thing you have church for this is merely a support site and people can beoffended easily when it comes to religion plus this site is for support not religious viewpoints
Yes they do have enough moderators....Ive seen 4 in one chatroom.....and all im saying is that we need a chatroom where people can come and talk freely without being shunned especially when it comes to religion. Yes there is church but you should know that people have a relationship outside of church and when we talk to others, or even about our own experiences, we have the right to say something without others attacking or muting us. I am upset that someone mentioned witchcraft but yet no one spoke out against that.... Im not the only christian on this site....
I'm Dominican, and sometimes I'm ignored and excluded and told to stop talking about my culture. WE NEED A CHAT ROOM FOR DOMINICANS ONLY!!!
Ok, that first part was clearly sarcasm. But I would like to say a few things about your post.
1: Moderators mod when they log on and are in the chat room. Sometimes there are no moderators in the chat rooms, and sometimes there are 4 or 5 because all the mods in the same time zone log on at the same time.
2: As shown by my first 2 sentences, it wouldn't be possible to make a chat room for everyone.
3: Yes. Christianity can trigger people. It triggers me. My parents use Christianity to mentally abuse me. When I feel that you are trying to force your religion on me, it makes me uncomfortable and upset. It's not that I hate Christianity. It's because being told scriptures and things about god makes me uncomfortable and upset. It doesn't matter if you're addressing me or not, I am still triggered. That's what triggering is. Is that your fault? No. Is that the fault of all the Christians of the world? No. Does that mean that when I come to get support for a problem, that I want to be given a religious lecture? No. If you become a listener, you need to listen, and not push your beliefs on members. In group chat: If you felt uncomfortable with someone talking about witchcraft, you should've said something, and the mod should have redirected the conversation. But I would like the same courtesy. If I feel uncomfortable with something, I would like to be able to say "I'm uncomfortable with this subject" and have the conversation redirected. I should also be able to mute anyone that triggers me. That's what the mute button is for. So that people can participate without having to read triggering messages. By saying I shouldn't be allowed to mute me, you are denying me a safe and supportive place to get help and talk.
You have a right to not be triggered and to talk about your experiences in group chat. I have those same rights. But your rights don't trump mine. You don't get to push your religion onto me. If you're triggered by witchcraft, then I won't talk about it, because it is your right to have a safe and supportive trigger free environment for you to talkand if I'm triggered by Christianity, you should not talk about itbecause it is myright to have a safe and supportive trigger free environmentto talk.
One moderator made me offended when she said "stop quoting scriptures" when no one was saying that. Just felt like no one should be attacked the way christians in the chatrooms were. We are not trolls * one listener called us*
Awww I'm sorry! Jesus is awesome and it sucks that so many people are offended by His name
I agree, this alone has made me not interested in this site. I love the Lord and all his amazing blessings! Time to delete!
It's so weird idk why people are so freaked out by Jesus
@Growingandgrowing1
I'm sure there are websites that are all about religion with religious users, that you can spend time on when you're in the mood to talk about your religion. It's just not going to happen here.
It's because a spam bot got in there and was spamming the chat room with worthless scriptures. You know, the so and so begat so and so begat so and so that we all skip over when we read the bible.
It was really annoying and caused app crashings and the page to freeze. It was a regular member who said that, and honestly, I was about to say it as well. Seriously. I won't even read that chunk of scripture when I read my bible. Why the hell would I read it here.
And as I previously stated, the church has hurt many people and tarnished the name of Jesus. A name which was meant to show love and compassion is now a trigger word because of idiots in the church and stupid Christians.
Ghandi was right on... "I love your Christ, but you Christians are so unlike your Christ."
@CrowleyAndCastiel
i do not think you understand what peachy is saying. and supporting religious views is a good thing in this world. it helps us learn and grow as one and respect everyone. other than being ignorant and arrogant. please think through your comments and look at life from all views not just one. this website is for support. and supporting doe's not mean being closed minded. it means looking at it from all perspectives and make the right choice in comments. i i see your comment as inappropriate, ignorant, rude and disrespectful. even as a teen i understand the importance of respect. this is something we should all learn and follow.
Just don't be like the (WORD) in the waiting room chat who are spamming it with scripture that doesn't help anybody who's actually hurting.
I am a Christian, but seriously, no one got saved because so and so begat so and so who begat so and so who begat so and so. Do it right and show the love of Christ.
Also, the church has done a whole lot of harm in Jesus name, so Christians are hated. For a good reason. False prophets soiled the name of Jesus.
Act like true Christ followers and there shouldn't be a problem....
that is so true omg!
Mederators do their job in trying to keep people happy this is a support site not a religion site christians are not hated against every rekigion is acceoted here and you dont need to go off showing people partsnof yours. You were muted because you couldnhave possibly offended someone not because youre christianyou dont need to go quoting scripturws to people.of other religions because thats your bible and your principles some people dontagree with all the bible has to say
Sorry for my crap tryping my phone sucks haha
I understand you, I've had people tell me things are going bad for them and I've felt like telling them God is with them to help them through, but I just hold back because I don't know if they are religious or not. But totally agree on the witchcraft point because people can be offended by that as well as with religion.
You can always say, idk if you believe or not but I do and I'm going to say a prayer on your behalf because it's my way of showing you support and hoping you find the healthiest choice for you. They don't have to believe but you are giving them support in your way. And I find ppl, even if they don't believe, appreciate that--because you are offering something personal to them.
It really depends on how you are doing it though, when you are offering prayer.
The key is to not force it on someone, to act like your prayer is a giftand that theyhaveto accept it whether they follow your religion or not. Personally, I am okay with it, even if it makes me a tad uncomfortable.
Though, Ihateit when people do it out of some sort of self-deserving altruism. Like they are somehow bestowing it to me. And it does feel like that sometimes when you are bombarded with it. (Like some Bible passages being incessantly quoted, however well-intentioned,to atheists or people of other religions--I'm Buddhist myself.)Christianity is very a dominant religion where I assumemost people on these forums live.
As much as from your point of view, it seems like a nice gesture;to others, it can be crossing boundaries. It can be rude at the least or invasive at worst.
And for some, those who have been abused by acts in the name of religion, even offering prayer can be too forward, too hurtful. It can even be triggering to the point of reliving horriblememories. That is not something to be lightly dismissed.
When someone says don't do this, it makes me uncomfortable, then stop. If you truly want to give something personal to them, then honour that request. Respect is the greatest gift you can give.
(Ah that turned out to be a little long. I'm not trying to dissuade prayer, since I believe it is a powerful formof compassion, but trying to point out that this is how others can feel about it. At least know the consequences/effectsof your actions and all that.)
As a listener, you can always mention your religion in your profile. If a member shares your religion they may bring it up themselves :)
@CompassionateHeart2
I'm an Atheist and would simply prefer a message of "my thoughts are with you". Religion doesn't have a place everywhere.
Hey, im a cristian, and i won to tall about my expirience with god lately(I just won to tell it to some cristians...)
So, talk to me so I can help you and i can Tell my experience. Never stop believing!
Dear All,
I have read through your concerns, and it's been also a discussion going on on the listener's side.
I would like to point out that this site is not about religious support, but it's about a person actively listening to another person. Some subjects are a trigger, and therefore it's the mod's job to keep it as friendly as possible. Sometimes we do not know any other way of how to both protect those that are triggered as well as those who wish to talk about such things and therefore ask for the person to refrain from speakingabout the subject.This website does not cater for Christians only, but also to many other religions, to which we are to be mindful of.
Yes you can talk about what interests you, that is fine. But The focus is not about Christianity, nor the details it entails. The focus is more about your experience which you can share.
At this point in time, the website is not able to cater for these needs. But, if you wish to speak to like minded people about the subject, I am sure there are plenty of other website which are more Christian oriented, who can perhaps do support those who are interested in learning more about the Christian communities and lifestyles.
Please do not feel like this is an attack, because it isn't. But at this point in time, it is not what this place is about.
Thank you for voicing your concerns,
I see no problem in opening specific religion-related support threads on the forum though.That sounds like a lot easier to manage than a chatroom.
Perhaps a general religious-support forum/community showing up on the main forum page, thenindependent subforums for eachreligion being requested.
I'm sure people of various religions (not just Christianity) would find that a useful outlet. I, for one, would be glad to post some Buddhism-related sources on mindfulness in helping with anxiety.
I'm an atheist but I think this could help both sides. If you're thinking of becoming a listener it might also be helpful to mention in your profile that you handle things from a Christian perspective. You'll get more members attention who are looking for that while keeping away others who can't be helped by it. :)
That's an excellent suggestion!
@Mist63
A lot of listener's already state their religion on their profiles. :)
I totally agree with @Aventurina on this one. I'm sorry that you've been dealing with religious discrimination, but please know that the group moderators just try to do what's best by thewholechatroom. We are a secular site, which doesn't mean that we aren't accepting of those who are of the Christian faith -- we just don't want that to be all the site is about. As a whole, 7Cups is probably not the best for group Christianity talks, but as Aven, and others, have said, there are a lot of Christians here that would love to talk 1 on 1, and build a relationship between you, them and God. If that doesn't work, there are plenty of resources online. A simple google of "Christian Group Chat" brings up many options.
As for the Bible quotes thing, we did have a spammer who flooded the rooms with hundreds of quotes in about the course of 10 seconds, so that's why mods might be a bit wary on scripture.
Anyways, thank you for continuing to be on the site. We're really glad you're here, honestly. <3
Thanks for all your responses. :)
I am more calmer than I was because I was so upset because I felt attacked. However I will just remove myself from the chatrooms and just stick to the good ole one on one.
and p.s. Im not the type to try to force others to believe in the things I believe because im very open-minded and understanding.
But thanks again for your comments I have a better understanding since the atmosphere is different.
I'm glad you are feeling calmer, @Peachy1.
We absolutely want everyone to feel welcome here, andtohave thefreedom to express themselves. Atthe same time we have to remember thatthe 7 Cups mission is notreligiously oriented. By not focusing on any particular religion, we are creating a level playing field for everyone to participate and feel at home here, no matter what theirbelief system. As humans, every one of us here has the ability to showkindness,support and love to others.
Talking as a person who is a listener, who talks in the chatroom and is an atheist triggered by christianism due to previous trauma:
As people have already said here before me, being a listener does not have to include your religious views. Actually, it would be better if it didn't, so you don't trigger anybody. It's fine to have your religion, it's fine to talk about Jesus. But religions are controversial topics and in chatrooms we aren't there to discuss controversial topics, but to share love, comprehension and support. For you, Jesus may be a good thing; for others, it may be a triggering subject they wouldn't want to talk about. That's why moderators try to keep religion out of chatrooms. As someone said here, you could warn in your listener profile that you will have a Christian view on topics and it may reflect on your listener work. But you should be always very careful with it when picking guests (from the general requests), because some of them may come from Christian abusive backgrounds and/or different religion views and you would make them very uncomfortable. The premise of listening is putting the person you're listening to first, except if they're threatening you or being abusive in any ways. This is not an attack in your faith. We don't mean to bash Christianism here. We just want to leave the environment as neutral as possible, the reason this site is secular, amongst other things.
Hope you're feeling calmer now. Nobody is hating on you or your faith, we're just working to make this place as safer as possible. Remember that your God may not be as good to someone as is for you.
That's interesting that you said that Jesus can be a trigger. Can you elaborate more?
It's not Jes. It's Christianity that triggers me. My parents use Christianity to mentally abuse me. However, you have no way of knowing that when I log on and enter the group chat, or connect to a listener. So if I log on and see in the group chat something like "god is with you, you just need to trust him," or similiarphrase that my parents frequently use, I will feel upset, be triggered. When I come looking for help with depression and want to be cheered up, I don't want to be reminded of my parent's abuse.
I'm so sorry! That's not the faith is supposed to be used! I'm sorry for your bad experience and on behalf of Christians I'm sorry that your parents did that to you. You must be an amazing person and I'm proud of you that you are staying strong!
