What are Your 3 Words? How to Identify Your Frequency
You are a unique person. There is nobody else like you. You have your own unique signature way of being.
You are different from others in very concrete ways. You have different DNA, fingerprints, and tastes. Even simple things like walking are unique to you. How fast or slow, how your arms move, how your legs and feet are positioned as you walk are all unique to you. This is called your gait. Similarly, you also have a unique way of talking. The way you weave emotion into your words, the way hand mannerisms and other non-verbals complement what you are expressing, and the cadence of your speech are also all unique to you.
We can even step back further and think about the relationships you have had with people. These could be family members or friends. No other person has walked the relational path and had those experiences with all of those individuals in the way that you have. You have walked down your own unique path.
I was recently visiting another part of the world and interviewing people. I asked them what does your culture know, that the broad culture of the United States does not know, but should know? Slowly at first, but then more quickly, people opened up and started sharing. They said things like:
-People in the United States are very stressed; we are not as stressed
-We do things in a sustainable way. When we have plenty we help others, when we do not have plenty we tighten up and ask others for help.
-Our culture happens mostly on a vibrational or energetic level. Your culture does not seem to pick up on this different way of being.
These same themes happened over and over again. The differences between our two cultures became more stark the more I sunk into their culture. As I learned, I began to understand that from their perspective, it was like the cultures were operating on two different frequencies. The Americans were tuned into one frequency that was informing the way they lived. People from this other culture were tuned into a different frequency.
They wouldn’t always use the term frequency. Sometimes they would say vibes, vibrations, or energy. For them, the most healing frequency was the “nature” frequency. They believed that nature was primarily healing and if they tuned into this frequency it would allow them to have a more peaceful frequency in their own lives or family.
From their view, people and all groups of people - this could be a couple, a family, a town, a region, or a country - all had their own unique frequency. Cultures, philosophies, and religions/spiritualities also had their own frequency.
One person said: The frequency is the sequence that you frequent.
This struck me as particularly insightful and made me wonder about the process of helping people identify their own frequency. I tried to distill down the learnings into a simple exercise. While there, and since coming back, I have shared this exercise with a handful of people including the 7 Cups team (they gave it a 9 out of 10). I’ll share it with you now.
1. Think about your best self - when you are in the flow and operating in a way that feels great. Try to step into that way of being for a moment.
2. What are 3 words or adjectives that describe you in this state?
3. Write down those 3 words. For example, if you are Resilient, Kind, and Smart, then your frequency would be the first 3 letters of each of those words: RKS.
(Everything in blue is the working example of this exercise): I (Glen) asked H for their 3 words. They chose Sincerity - Resilience - Loyalty
4. Ask someone you like or trust to now share their 3 words they feel describes you. Take one that resonates the most with you. For example, let’s say you ask me and I say you are Thoughtful, Patient, and Resilient. Resilient would cancel out because you already identified that. You’d then determine whether Thoughtful or Patient was a better word. Let’s say you chose Patient. In that case, your frequency would be: RKSP. Share your 3 words with the other person as well.
I gave H 3 words I feel describe them: Thoughtful - Patient - Resilient
From those 3, H chose Thoughtful. WIth this fourth word, their frequency is SRLT
5. For those who are visual in how they perceive things, you can also imagine an image that represents your frequency. H views their frequency as being represented by water as an image they can step into to better operate or stay true to their frequency.
Once you have your image, share that with the other person. Now, you can pick a picture you feel represents them, too.
Now, do this exercise again, but for the other person! (Ask for their 3 words that represent how they describe their frequency, give them your 3 words for them to pick 1 from, ask them to share their image of themself and find an image that comes to mind when you think of them).
6. Think about any influences/factors that become obstacles to your flow state/best self. How can you work on minimizing the impact of these obstacles?
It can also be interesting to think of this in a way that is similar to how radio stations work. Radio stations have a transmitter that is connected to an antenna. Different stations send out information over the air through different wavelengths that are not visible. When you tune into a station by turning the dial or knob, you are using your antenna and receiver to pick up on that station’s frequency. That is what enables you to hear the songs or talk shows on that particular station.
You can imagine that other psychological or cultural frequencies are being sent out. Harmful ideas or certain advertising campaigns for example, can be viewed as a sort of negative frequency that people accidentally tune into. This station then informs what people think about and how they feel about themselves. Even someone that wants you to feel bad about yourself - maybe because they are insecure or it helps them feel better - can be seen as sending you a certain vibe, energy, or frequency. They want you to tune into their station and see yourself as they see you, rather than be true to your own natural frequency and see yourself as you are.
If you find yourself outside of your own frequency band (ie., not operating in a way that is consistent with your 4 words), then you can tune back into your own frequency by acting in a courageous way. Being courageous might be one way of changing the station back to your own natural frequency, and recognizing the obstacles as well as factors that impact our frequency can help us get there.
@Hope had some interesting thoughts on this. She said, “I was very surprised to see that other people could see my frequency so clearly. I had thought it was more hidden. Seeing that happen was validating.”
If you are comfortable, please share your 3 words and an image (if you want) below that captures your frequency. You can also ask someone in the community to share their 3 words with you too. This will enable us to do the exercise as a community.
Bonus: You can think of 7 Cups as also giving off a frequency. What would be your 3 words for 7 Cups?
Not gonna lie that was way too long for me to be able to concentrate on, but my three words to describe when I’m feeling my best are: Athletic, Understanding, and Concentrated.
@AlWaYShuNgRY411
i forgot lmao I can’t think of an image that makes me remember my words. Is that bad?
@AlWaYShuNgRY411 points for honesty! your words remind me of an athletic track. my daughter runs track and we've been focusing :)
@GlenM
Thats cool, I do too! It’s kinda hard balancing track and football but I make it work. Keep working with your daughter, it’s cool that you are supporting her interests!
@GlenM
I really like that this post brings awareness of how we perceive ourselves and how we are seen by others.
My 3 words for my best, authentic self are: vibrant, boundless and connected.
The most common obstacles to being on this frequency is: fear (self-doubt).
My image is:
(Wow, didn't mean it to be that big)
Tagging: @Moonlemon48 @EmmaE @KyleBorg
My 3 words for Cups are: nurturing, evolving and enduring
~ Sher
@Sher217 great image - so much to balance in life - and great point on fear. I think being afraid is a key blocker for most of us. What helps you overcome that fear?
@GlenM
Hey Glen,
Taking a minute to check my self talk script helps me overcome most often. If I'm saying something like "oh no, oh no, I'm scared" I try replace that with "take a breathe and get a grip. this is only nerves. You got this! Just take the first baby step and then see how it goes"
~Sher
@Sher217 very good call and glad you are aware! That internal intercom system can definitely also get me off track. I like how you can hear it. Often a big part of growth is getting people to turn it up loud enough so that they can hear it and then challenge it just as you outlined. And, yes, you got this!
I enjoyed the exercise, it's a pretty good short exercise to gain a good understanding of your ideal state of being. Thank you for sharing Glen
My 3 words are:
- Productive
- Focused
- Optimistic
Image for myself
@Hope Love your words and image! What are your 3 words for 7 Cups?
@GlenM
I did not see that part! I bolded it in the post so others can also see it right away. The words for 7 Cups:
beneficent
Loving
Global
Image for 7 Cups

The world can be a cold, dark and damp place and I see 7 Cups as this warm fire people can gather around and share their sorrows and joys.
@GlenM
My words are: intelligent, robotic, logical
Description of my image: a dark blue dragon soars among dark gray mountains, during the time between sunset and night, when there is light, but less color. The dragon’s eyes glow a bright cyan and are leaving a cyan trail behind them. There are transparent cyan 0’s and 1’s all over the whole image.
@Xatharr what an awesome image! Can I ask you to try to find something like that? I'd like to see it.
@GlenM I can’t find it, but I’ll try to make it using markup, I’ll add it once it’s done!
@GlenM
so… markup is rlly hard to get it to look good for an entire image (least for me lol)…
It’s basically this, but if it was like computer generated and looked 10000 x better

Ig it’s not horrible for something I drew with my fingers on a tablet in half an hour, but yikes
imagine this as if it were a CGI lol
@Xatharr I can see this and I can imagine a CGI! Very cool. Thank you for pulling this together and sharing. Did the practice of creating it make it feel more real or give more color/texture to your frequency?
@GlenM thank you! Yes, in a way, it did make it feel more real, yet at the same time, less real,
because I was able to see it not in my mind, but it isn’t exactly as I pictured it
@GlenM
Hi Glen! 😊❤️ Many thanks for this amazing forum post! I really like how you are digging down deep, thinking, feeling, finding new ways and then bringing it all back to us so that we can learn from your thoughts and experiences! Teamwork makes the dream work and we all learn together! 😊 (Operative word...."WE") I love the "WE", "US", teamwork aspect and cohesion.
We are all evolving as people around this place and it's really neat to watch your process and evolution through it all as well by sharing with us in your forum posts! It's beautiful to see you "digging at the roots instead of looking through the branches".
I've learned a lot, grown a lot, changed a lot since first coming here. I see what you mean. I hear you. I call it vibrational frequency and it's something I learned after being here for awhile. The way I kind of think of it is the energy that we as people are putting out to the universe? It's also a "call back" to an earlier forum post you created. (Yes, some of us around here do pay attention to you! lol! 😊👍)
I don't recall the title of the forum post, but you did mention "flow" and I remember contributing to it. I guess in my little Gizzie ways, I think of it as "all flow, no frazzle". I have thought of it in many ways... hitting my sweet spot, in my groove spot or in the zone.
In an effort to answer the question, I think the three words that would best describe me when I'm in this state would be : authentic, powerful, pure. This for me is the state that I'm truly at my very best. Strong vibrations, running on all cylinders! Found my center, almost a Zen moment. This is my "happy place" 😊 Visually for me, I see it as a strong white light.
I love how you mentioned how some things just aren't visible. I liken it to the wind. We can't trap it in a bottle, eat it, taste it, smell it (only the scent the wind will carry), touch it, etc. The wind is intangible, but somehow, we all know that the wind exists! We can only see the after effects of the wind so maybe that's what frequency is all about too?
I like how you also mentioned staying away from negative or harmful things. I do my best to be mindful of this. For me, my quick catch phrase for this is Good Things In = Good Things Out. Reminds me of the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" that's usually shown by the 3 little monkeys. *shrugs shoulders*....Monkey see, monkey do, monkey get it trouble too! haha!
*high fives* 😊 big *hugs* ❤️ and stay great my friend! 😊
@SparkyGizmo very cool! love how you see it and feel it and experience it as wind. Can you say more on it as a vibrational frequency and how being here has helped you learn more about it?
@GlenM
Well Glen 😊❤️, I will since you asked. Not sure how interesting, fascinating all of this will be but I guess all of us have a story around here about when we came and how we have developed over time.
When I first came here some time back I wasn't the 3 words that I am now when I'm truly at my best. I wasn't authentic, I wasn't powerful and I wasn't pure. No white light! I think a big part of the problem was that I hadn't had the chance to interact with others, as in my teammates on the listener side, understand the culture, didn't have someone that truly guided me at first blush. I was alone waffling around for quite awhile kind of dazed and confused. Even the bigger problem was that I stepped onto this platform long ago being who I imagined what others would want for me to be? Talk about a recipe for disaster! lol
I hadn't handed myself over to the process. I hadn't really connected with my teammates, I hadn't been invested in the forum areas, the rooms and I hadn't learned much of anything but yet, I thought I knew it all. smh! Over time, I embraced 7 cups and the core values. And yes, your forum posts where inspiring to me and I remember in one of those forum posts you spoke of "US" following "OUR" North Star.
You were humble, you were vulnerable, and in some of those forum posts you asked for help, you wanted us to all pull together as a team. I wonder if in one of those forum posts, some where in there was the moment that I felt like it would be okay for me to "just be me too"? I call it "being the example". Kind of like, well if our founder can do it, humble himself and come down to meet me (ask me, of all people for help?), so can I for everyone else! Not sure if that was exactly my pivotal moment, but trust me, it was in there somewhere with it all. Somewhere along the line, things changed in me. (It's interesting how I remember all of these forum posts, isn't it? I think I do because they were meaningful and it mattered).
I wish I knew the exact date when when I started walking what I call the "path of authenticity" around here. Maybe somewhere, in there, the true phoenix has now arisen but just here as Gizzie that understands so much more about service driven leadership. I think I just started vibrating on the same frequency as others around this place. Understanding that I'm nothing with out my team. Somehow learning that I'm all in or I'm all out. That's it's going to be me, the real me showing up or nothing it all. The real me feels soooooooo good! There is power in authenticity and so much purity!
I guess down the road I read some things online about energy, frequency, vibration, and so it just made sense how I was truly getting some traction around 7 cups because I was just being me! I had already changed my mindset and my approach about so many things and it was in alignment with who I really am at my core. 😊❤️❤️
@SparkyGizmo thank you for spelling this all out in detail. That is very helpful. I like how you tied it into broader change in the overall community as well. That is a great insight. I'm really glad the reverberations out helped and that signaled that it was good for you to be you and nobody else. That old oscar wilde quote about being yourself because everyone else is taken. I think we have a lot more to learn about these things as they are tough to capture with words. Thanks again!
@GlenM
Hi, Glen,
I love this, except for a couple things. One is that I think our frequencies change throughout our lives. That is important. Second is that I don't have anyone who I know well enough and trust enough to describe me in a positive light. So, I can only do this for myself.
do you think someone who doesn't know us well can pinpoint our top three positive traits?
@purpleTree4652 I totally agree that our frequencies change over time. One word I have for myself is weathered - like I feel like I've been through some storms throughout my life - but I wouldn't have used that word years ago. I'm glad you highlighted this point :).
I think asking people you trust is helpful to getting better insight, but also think that we often give off more signals than we realize and that people with good intentions can help us see ourselves better even when they do not know us terribly well. I think that is one reason why active listening works so well. You connect with another anonymous stranger and they learn a lot and help just by listening and reflecting back. With that spirit in mind, I checked out your profile and though we are not too close, I still have 3 words for you. They are: dedicated, supportive, and patient. Those are the 3 key words that emerge from your profile for me. I hope this helps!
@GlenM
Hi, Glen!
Thank you for that thoughtful response. I also thank you for my descriptors.
I noticed something else. You chose supportive for me. I realized that I am different in different settings. For instance, here on 7cups, I am very supportive because I think most people who come here are truly seeking help and deserve support. But at my job in a warehouse, there are people who genuinely try to be difficult. When working with them, I am not supportive. Instead, I have learned to stop giving support to the difficult people.
I don't know you well, but I would give you one descriptor that I can think of; intelligent.
Take care.
@GlenM
I love this exercise, which I actually did in a work setting a few years back. My words in a professional setting are different, though, than they are in my personal life! I asked a few people and selected their first responses as they resonated with me as well:
Unconditional, Optimistic, Empathetic
My three words are:. Confident, outgoing, and creative
@GlenM
It's an amazing post, Glen. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you had a great time.💖
As for my three words, I'd have to say:
Strong, Empathic, Kind
The image.. I believe this is the one I resonate with the most.❤

(This is not my pic. I took it from the web.^)
@Victor04 very cool! Can you share more on the meaning of the image?
@GlenM
The picture displays a warrior angel rising up.😊
Let's just say I've struggled a lot in life, and have come out of it all and moved on from it recently. That picture resembles that for me. I've fought my demons and am stronger than ever and now, I face my life with my head held high and my hope for the future.❤
Also, I look after my loved ones. I take good care of them, and try my best to make sure no harm ever befalls them. These are the reasons why I resonate with the image.😊❤
@Victor04 that description is beautiful. Hats off to you! Thank you for being a noble person and bringing that courage and good spirit to our community!
@GlenM
😊❤
@GlenM
Hi, Glen! Thank you for the exercise, that was fun. ☺
My three words are passionate, conscientious, and authentic.
My three words for you are reliable, considerate, and charismatic.
🎇 I think this resonates with my frequency quite well:

🍵 My three words for 7 Cups: empathetic, vitalising, cherished.
Woody Gooch captured these stunning images of a butterfly in the rain and they represent 7 Cups for me. 🦋

@SilverSeastar thank you for sharing your words and for giving me 3 words as well. That was very kind of you and I'm glad you experience me in that manner. And what stunning butterfly photos! Can you share more on why they represent 7 cups to you?
@GlenM
I think the butterfly represents transformation and growth. It also symbolises hope and beauty in life. It may seem fragile from the outside, but it flies through the challenges of the rain. Then, the butterfly lands on a person's hand.
The picture on the left reminds me of how warm the 7 Cups community is. We strive to make everyone feel heard and seen. The person comes face-to-face with the butterfly and they take a closer look to understand each other.
In the picture on the right, it looks like the person is already too far drowned, but the butterfly still comes to them all the same. Just like the compassionate and determined people here on 7 Cups, the butterfly gives them hope and strength, no matter how difficult their struggle may seem.
🦋💙
Courage, Humility and Humanity.
This image resonated with my frequency. The light is who I truly am and the individual is my life.

@purrwalker what great words CHH! and love the pic too. The light shines down on you and helps give shape to you as an individual? Am I understanding that right?
Oh my, so sorry for taking WAYYY too long to answer. Yes, that’s a pretty accurate interpretation. Sometimes I struggle to let the light in, but at the end of a road, I always have the tendency to embrace it no matter the state of mind I’m in. @GlenM
