@Raveninthelabrynth I don't mean to offend or upset you Laura, but this is a Sacred Cultural and Religeous thing for me, and perhaps some from other cultures too. I understand and respect the idea for finding other ways for people to bond, but for Cultural and Religous reasons I am offended by this. Find me a Black Raven and I'd be happy, but I must ask you please remove this from me.

@TheMusicGirl It's ok, and please understand I'm not being a sour puss. I was abandoned and taken from my home and people when I was 5 and thrown into another culture and language I was forced to learn. Later I had to leave there and now am a refugee in a land very far from my home. Everything of my life has been taken from me. I am even forced to communicate to you in a language not mine. My Name, Title, Faith, Skills, and a language that only two I know here can speak are alle I have left. As innocent as this animal icon is, to me it's having another lable thrown on me and another piece of me taken away at someone elses whim, as well it is culturally and religeously offensive. How can I not be hurt and angered by this?

Hi there, thank you for sharing your story. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to change your animal - as its meant to be based on your join month to 7 Cups! I will pass your feedback along to the team about an opt-out. But for now, we are going to try this for a week and see what we can learn before making any big changes. I am sorry if this is painful for you. I assure this is not personal, but something we are all trying as a group. Thakn you for sticking with us!

@Erica I know right? I was so psyched about it being changed to a turtle and now it's RED LOL - well, it's better than whatever it was supposed to be before. I'd rather it be a red turtle than a rhino. I think that's what it was.
Okay this is going to get grumpy but seriously, no one asked for this, it makes rooms look messy, and you're just wasting time doing stuff we don't want instead of doing things we've been asking for for months or years. Priorities are skewed massively. I'd appreciate an opt out function for this, if not a total removal
@Laura I honestly don't feel like you've even read my post. I honestly think time has been wasted on this pointless update that could have been used more effectively (like on replying to my PMs!!!). This is an ongoing theme with updates and it's driving us mad. Accept negative feedback and USE IT. Please.

I understand that some people may be upset about this update, and for their own good reasons. However, its not okay to bully people. This person does not deserve to be treated this way or attacked for trying to promote an update which Im sure they genuinely felt was positive at the time it was launched. What youve said is very offensive and Ive flagged your post because I hope it is removed.

Im not addressing any of Lauras responses, but I felt this post was out of line and offensive. As much as I agree that the update is not necessary, I dont feel there is a need to attack anyone, especially not in a place that promotes care, compassion and understanding. I can only hope that the team working behind the scenes are hearing everyones concerns and will make the changes that are needed, but I can imagine that they are having to juggle many peoples views on the matter and that cant be an easy task.

I feel as if Laura telling us that we should all be at the same place in our journeys (which she did in response to one person), responding to genuine concern by saying she professionally disagree[s] and then laying out why she thinks someone is wrong for saying the update is harmful (which MANY have pointed out!!), and completely dismissing, belittling, and demeaning anyone who has problems with this thoughtless update (that one person even went ahead and built an add on to remove from Chrome because of how hated and triggering it is), is far worse than someone calling her a weirdo in a onesie who doesnt care. Shes proven through her responses within this very thread that she couldnt care less about the members and listeners on this site, and any concerns voiced are intentionally brushed aside with insensitivity and, honestly, insulting replies.
@TheLogicalSasquatch Hi. I understand you do not like the new, so called "helpful update" by admins. But do not be abusive or discourage anyone. The timing of the implementation of the update is very bad, I agree that they should have given the option of exclusion in the beginning, but they did not because they wanted to see the reaction. This is a very inappropriate step as a community leader. I hope they solve this as soon as possible. <3 Till then, lets support each other!

Catagorising us all by when we felt damaged enough to need to join this site?... I do not approve of this when we can see when we all joined on people's profiles anyway.
It also doesn't help that all the red icons look more like random blood splatters :(

the anmials help to organze our community in a way that signals when folks started their healing journey at the same time. We know from other communities (like AA) and how schools (like class grades) are organized, that communities and relationships are increased when ppl begin at the same time. It helps you find ppl who are at the same point in your journey as you.
@Laura I'm not keen on judgement on where I "should be" on my path or segregation. My journey is my own.

@Laura But that is not how this is organized. If I joined December 2017, and someone joined Decemember 2014... we did not start at the same time and should not be in the same cohort.

Except now you've literally just said that because we started a journey in the same month as someone else (while COMPLETELY DISREGARDING THE YEAR), we should have made the same amount of progress, when that is just an asinine thought process to even have. Healing isn't linear, yet you've now made it seem as if it's a straight line from point a to point b and we just get on here and get help and get "better". It doesn't work that way, and this "update" does nothing but give us a reason to feel bad about ourselves for not reaching a point that someone else has within the same amount of time - or making someone feel superior over someone else for having made it further in the same amount of time. It seems like no real thought was put into this at all. Don't bother trying to reframe it, because what Apple said is entirely accurate. You've managed to group us by when we felt broken enough to reach out to an anonymous website for help. Make it optional or remove it altogether. I hate the blue dolphin you've shoved next to my name. My picture was literally a purple butterfly before. I don't want a blue dolphin, and I don't appreciate in the slightest that this decision was made for me with no option to opt-out.
