June 2nd: Text Box on Connecting Page (Tentative this month)
In our attempt to continue to support members through the connecting process, we will be experimenting with the following feature.
As a reminder, roughly 50% of people never connect to a listener. They leave us on the connecting page. We earned some gains with inviting members to the group rooms (learn more here), but still we are losing people while they wait.
We may be some time from this, but I wanted to collect feedback & make a preliminary announcement prior to the feature being launched.
Here is how it will work (tentatively):
- Member will have a text box on their connecting page. A welcoming prompt will be provided! Something like this:
"Hello, welcome to 7 Cups of Tea! Your listener is on the way. While you wait, you can start discussing what is on your mind here. Make yourself comfortable, your listener will be right with you."
- Member writes in the text box!
- When the General Request is picked up, the content of the text box is added to the 1-1 conversation window.
- Listener arrives and jumps right in! / Starts listening
That's such an awesome idea and should cut down Ghost Chats dramatically!

@Laura Will there be a limit to how many words they can use? This seems like such a good idea and I love the welcome message (it sounds really similar to my greeting!)

I'd love this, not only to cut ghost chats but to help jump start conversations.I'd just add a few words letting people know it's OK if they just wait for us too, since some folks might need that initial greeting before they warm to discussing what's on their minds. Maybe change the second sentence to, "If you like, you may go ahead and start discussing what's on your mind while you're waiting."
I like the idea, but is it a single text box? I know chats only show the last ~15 messages, and I would hate for a guest to write out how they are feeling only to have it be lost before the listener sees it. If it's a single one, though, that sounds great!
Great idea! Will be very interesting to see if it helps the disconnect/ghost issue. And can I say I love how much thought clearly goes into the member experience here at 7 cups? I love it!
