March - New Forum Moderation Tools!
Hi Friends,
Since the start of the year many of you have given feedback that we need additional accountability in the department of forum moderation. The admin team has been working along side your Forum Ambassadors @Monbon & @Anomalia to bring this tool to life. @Monbon & @Anomalia advocated for additional tools and resources and we should all give them a high five! The first version of this tool has been released and we are excited to share this update with you!
Here is what you can expect -
When a forum moderator / mentor / teen star edits or deletes a forum post, we are able to see what action was taken and by whom. From there, our Forum Ambassadors see a queue of all the moderated content. Our goal is to help teach all forum mentors / stars the best practices around forum moderation, while keep the quality of moderation fair. The utlimate goal is to provide a safe and supportive forum experience for all.
If you are a forum mentor/ star - please stay tuned for more information from the Forum Ambassadors. They will be sharing more information about this tool with you as to ensure your work in the forums continues to align with our guidelines and provides the community a consistent forum experience.
Yay! Go Forums Go!
Oh my gosh, finally! <3 this was the thing I've been waiting to happen in the forum moderations c: go forum team! Just a follow up question: do you and the forum ambassadors also see when a forum supporter edits their own post? Or does it only happens when a forum mentor/teen star edit a post since they're the only ones in charged of moderation? I hope I was able to make sense there xD
@Erato - Yes, we can also see when a forum supporter edits/deletes their own posts. :)
@Anomalia oh pffttt xD so you just saw how many times I edited that previous post right? Lol
@Erato - I wasn't going to call you out, but...yes!
@Anomalia omg hahaha *hides* i'm embarrassed lol
@Erato heheh this made me to laugh so much! We all seek for perfection
@Erato
whaaahaaa nooooooo don
@Anomalia
@Erato
Haha! Im a great one for tweaking too. But you know what they say. One simple mistake and the whole meaning of the post can be urined!
@DeborahUK
Deborah, you always manage to make me laugh even while catching up on things at 4 am 💐
@Laura
Amazing! ![]()
Thank you @Monbon & @Anomalia !!
@Laura that's a great and very very needed update for sure! I know that some people are upset recently because the posts have been moved/edited/deteled without any note, so this will help us to solve cases like these, woho!
Very excited about this tool and happy to answer any questions that people have! For those curious, my biggest learnings so far:
- Many people edit to add tags later - this is a problem because if you add a tag after the fact, the person gets no notification. We will do a better job making sure people know this so that those who should be notified of a post are!
- We have a few really rockstars at spam busting! Super proud of the team, and especially thankful for those folks who are taking time throughout the week to check for it and get it out of there!
- Forum supporters love to edit their formatting later
- There is less overall editing and deleting than I think many people think (which is a good thing!), but this increased visibility will help us proactively address issues that do arise or take a second look if there is concern on what should have happened
Overall, I think this is a great step forward and I hope it helps people to feel there is more transparency and accountability, as well as helps us to make sure that the forum team in general continues to learn and grow so that we can all continue to work together to make the forums a great place to connect and seek support!
@Anomalia This is great news, I'm glad the tools are helpful!
Yay! I'm glad there will be more accountability around editting/deleting!
Yes! I
@Laura That is a really great update! I love that it is focused on accountability, and making sure that there is a consistency in the quality of forum moderation. And the ultimate goal is to provide a safe and supportive space, yay! Go forum team, wooohooo!
Super excited to see this update! I
@Anomalia @MonBon
Umm not sure what to write as being super careful ... but great news about the tools!
@MistyMagic - No need to act in the forums any differently than you might have before. This is just so that when concerns arise about over-censorship, we have a way to look into them quickly instead of having to go through a long back and forth with the dev team to even know what's going on. Saves the dev team time to focus on bigger things to be developed and lets things get resolved faster, plus helps us know if there's anything we need to improve on in training so that everyone is on the same page!
@Laura
Hello! I've reached out an ambassador to "be tuned and have more informations" since I am a forum mentor but they asked me if I have specific questions about it, in order to answer, so if i know more I can sure come back to them with questions. Till then, I do not have any specific question, as per now I would just have a wider and deeper explanation about it all, so if someone has time and wants to reach me out to tell me more, I will be glad and that way I will be able to be more specific in asking things. ![]()
Thank you
