May 11: New Sub-communities launch dates (and some info on forum reorganization)!

Monday, May 15: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) sub-community will launch
Tuesday, May 30: Bipolar Community will launch
Monday, June 5: Hobbies Community will go live!

Woohoo, this is a splendid update! Also pretty cool since the day of the Hobbies subcommunity launch will be my 2nd Cuppaversary 
As part of the Chronic Pain and Illnesses forum being moved into Disability Support - a suggestion I thought of would be to also move the Autism forums as well with Disability Support in the near future. Do you have any thoughts on this?

As a person with Autism, I would not support that as I don't view my Autism as a disability. But I dont know.

That'a a great point; it makes sense and I agree! I think some of the people participated in the Chronic Pain and Illnesses Community may not classify their conditions as disabilities either. Maybe rename Disability Support to Different Abilities Support?

I like it too! I'll bring this up with the other team leaders. If the Autism forums are eventually integrated too it'd be much better suited as a Different Abilities forum rather than a Disability forum. I think it'd also benefit the current Disability and Chronic Pain and Illnesses Communities as well because their conditions aren't exactly Disabilities either but rather Different Abilities

I like your idea for the new name to be "Different Abilities Support" But in all honesty it would be too confusing. Yes, in this case it would make sense, but if a passerby were to see this they would have no clue what it means by "Different Abilities" people would assume it wasn't for people with disabilities, but for people who can do things that most people can't do.
I know that the word "Disability" may not apply to some people about how they feel towards it, but it's a lot easier to explain for new people that will see it.
@Emily619 I like the idea of "Different Abilities." In fact in my country we prefer saying differently abled to disabilities because it goes without saying that the words we use for things do affect our perspective on that thing. Different Abilities is a nice umbrella term that doesn't mean to stigmatise but rather, to include in a more welcoming manner. :)
@Emily619 chronic pain and chronic illness are 100% a sort of disability and you can find positives in them, but.
and i'm afraid that "different abilities" would not be understood by the bulk of the community.
"differently abled" probably would, and i have less of a complaint about that, but in general studies have shown that disabled people tend to prefer the term disabled. i prefer it because it is more clear, but i do not really have a say in the matter.
anyway, i'm not sure whether autism belongs in the disability category. i'm not sure where it should go, but i'd imagine that's why it's off on its own right now--because it's a hard decision.
regardless of what you name that community though, when you go into it, you're going to see people with phsyical disabilities etc, so if an autistic person has the perspective that there's nothing "disabled" about them, they're just different, that's going to be.... not the best thing for them, anyway?
@Emily619 A large portion of the ASD community is strongly against this change. They/we have been very vocal about not moving it.

sometimes in cleaning up the mess that is the forums, we have to make sacrificies, but... i don't think it's a good fit, either.

I agree, it would make people with family stress/problems feel awkward to participate in such a community around parenting and pregnancy even though it's supposed to be inclusive of all things family. I know I would.
@Laura, I'm so excited about the Hobbies community. Streamlining some of the forums is such a great idea. It should make some things easier to find or to refer someone to.

i've been encountering a lot of broken forum links lately.
some of them for rather important documents or pages.
there is a plan in place to redirect all attempts to navigate to outdated urls to their new locations or no?
i know things sometimes have to be moved on the forums, but it scares me every time it happens :(
also sries i know i'm being a pain in the ass today but it's been, like, a whole week since i was last time, so! :D
also i should mention that i'd be more than happy to write redirect rules for these one of these weekends if you did not plan on it, huggiwugs.
@bunnypants If you send the broken links to a forum mentor they should be able to figure it out and fix it :)
