May 23 - Community Terms of Service update
Hello!
Were updating our Privacy Policy to comply with the European Unions new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Although the GDPR specifically applies to people living in the EU, were very serious about privacy and will apply these rules to everyone, no matter where you live.
A quick summary of the changes under GDPR:
- We are not collecting more data or personal information from you - were just being more specific about how we use and store the data we collect, and letting you know what rights you have regarding your data.
- We have added information about how you can request a download of your data, and/or delete your data. You can email support@7cups.com with your request.
- Last, but not least, we have clarified the legal bases we use to process your data, including providing our service to you, complying with the new EU laws (GDPR), fighting and working to prevent any abuse of our service, improving the service we offer, and creating new features.
For more details, you can review our updated Privacy Policy. These changes will go into effect on May 25, 2018. By using 7 Cups on and after that date, you agree to the changes. If you have questions about the updated privacy policy, feel free to reach out to us at support@7cups.com

Thanks for letting us know in the forums! My emails are swamped with notices about the changes (as I'm currently an EU citizen!)

Obviously you know I am a Brit and so I have been inundated with a lot of websites all trying to sort this before the 25th, but I couldnt access the site tonight until I had clicked Accept! but I also could not read the policy until after I had clicked Accept?
I also noted that Therapists are listed as Mandated Reporters?
Therapists as Mandated Reporters
Therapists are mandated reporters. Because of their profession, they have a legal obligation to report to authorities any signs of child abuse or vulnerable adult abuse. However, members cannot be forced to give any personal information. Adults who are in therapy provide personal information which will only be disclosed to the therapist if they or someone else is in imminent danger.

I noticed that too! If you click on the word 'privacy policy' or 'terms of service' it takes you to the screen without having to click 'accept'.
Also yes, therapists are mandated reporters - but at the same time there is not a lot of information that members provide so therapists are limited in how much they can do.
@MistyMagic I couldn't read the privacy policy or the TOC until I accepted them. That's not right. There's now a record of this issue and it might be a problem. If a privacy issue comes up, I can prove that I, and others, were not given the opportunity to read the policies and terms because we had to accept them first.
Better check into that!

how is 7cups making money?
not saying you are but you could be selling our data
some sites sell data to make money!

@happybanana53 As far as I am aware, all funding for the staff, the website, developments, advertising, everything, etc. is through personal contributions from back-ups. The 7Cups staff team are also big believers in a non-ad website, which is why we never see ads onsite, and so they cant earn money that way.

Additionally, we make money from therapy sales.

@IcedEthan - donations help a lot, as do premium memberships and online therapy subscriptions. Together those things pretty much enable us to offer everything else for free!

7 Cups doesn't sell data but it does donate it -

Otherwise it makes it's money from donations, therapists and member fees (when they see therapists).
@romanticthi3f - no we enable people to donate their public social media data (not their data on 7 Cups) if they want to

7 cups have several revenue sources:
- donations
- membership upgrades (to unlock custom growth paths)
- online therapy subscriptions
- partnerships with organizations (such as schools)
We do not sell data or connect data generated at 7 Cups with marketing or advertising systems.

I have no part to this but im good with it and any meanes. Its helpful information to me and if it for the medical field and it to know what area needs more funding and stuff i say use it.

Any thime its what and why im here
I ran across a bug related to this - in my browser I couldn't continue to use the site unless I clicked "Agree" - which is OK, except that I wanted to read the new Privacy Policy and ToS first. (Or at least skim them...) But I couldn't do that - if I tried to read them, another dialog box and the text of the PP or ToS would be dimmed and unscrollable.
It should be possible to read what one is formally agreeing to, before agreeing to it. This really should not have happened.
Hi Laura. I just finished reading the Privacy Policy. I think it is fine. Lots of countries in Asia too, have their own policies regarding Data Protection Regulations. I think it's a good idea to follow The EU policy .

@Laura oh yeah, this update is something that everyone is talking about right now in EU. As i am EU resident I think i have like 20+ emails about it and agreements. it's a bit exhausting but I bet that every platform you are using needs to let you know about these changes so it makes sense.
