Importance of spending time in nature

User Profile: amiablePeace77

You may have heard from a friend or doctor that when you're stressed, you should go outside, walk, or garden. You may feel better physically and mentally if you spend time in the sun and fresh air.

Many of us are spending less time outside because we are relying more on technology, and more people are moving to cities around the world.

Participation question:

What are you doing to connect with nature?

For example, do you practice any exercises outside on a regular basis?

Seeking Help

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

@amiablePeace77  What are you doing to connect with nature? Sometimes I walk or go in the back yard besides a nature area behind the house.

For example, do you practice any exercises outside on a regular basis? Sometimes I do Tai Chi outside

@soulsings

I could imagine feeling the connection with nature by doing Tai chi outside doubles the effect of the practise. 👍

Currently in the midst of a photography project with my nephew, taking photos of as many butterflies as we can find. Gets us both out and about and appreciating the beauty and colours that nature has to offer 💜💕

@amiablePeace77 I go out an just look at da world first wit no people no traffic no action just da beauty of da trees, grass, flowers, rain, sun snow etc just looking at da trees during summer brings a sense of life a sense nature or in fall da leaves changing colors to let all to know whats in store ahead letting go of da old an bringing in da new for da next summer. Seein’ da growth, da changes dat occur every day regardless we created it or not but knowing we are a part of this an c’n enjoy it anytime we Wanna. Rain cleanses while snow brings a freshness to life.

I sit outside on my patio for hours and watch life during the day or light a candle and enjoy it at night.

Lucky me, I already live in the countryside and have a huge "yard" (a park really).

When I was able to, I did go for walks in the hills or along creeks with my dog (who ran freely).  I would also bike to the next town and such, work in the garden (mostly weeding, pull ivy off walls, gathering firewood and such - my sister is the boss around the property).

While living in Canada, I often went to the slopes to ski or stayed in town to skate. Occasionally went on horse rides too. Some hikes as well.

What are you doing to connect with nature?

For example, do you practice any exercises outside on a regular basis?

What are you doing to connect with nature?

Spending time outside at all types of places that are high in nature

For example, do you practice any exercises outside on a regular basis?

Yes. If you count walking as exercise which I do then that’s more than one exercise that I do outdoors.

Definitely. It’s very refreshing and mind calming for me which helps to lower anger, stress, frustration, or anxiety when I used to have that.

@amiablePeace77

What are you doing to connect with nature?

I call my small back yard, my sanctuary. Relax in the hammock or sit around the fire pit. I sometimes bring my laptop out and "Walk away the Pounds" with Leslie Sansone. I like the 3 or 5 mile exercise video.

3 Days a week that I am in the office, I go for a 3.2 mile/5 kilometer walk during my lunch hour.
