I changed careers bc I was engaged and wanted to live closer to my husband to be. I taught high school then moved to a health promotion consultant job where I got to use my Nutrition degree … and loved it. 💕💕💕

Years ago I left toxic people behind me although that made me feel more lonely but at the end it turned out one of the best decisions I made.
@amiablePeace77
ami - I do the same - leave persons that are not good for my integrity.
The toughest choice I ever made was moving 14 hours away from my kids, who were 11 and 8 at the time. I went through a horrible divorce back then. I tried to stay in the area so I could be with my boys, we had joint custody. My ex wife made it impossible for me to have a life of my own. For my own mental health amd well being, I moved back to my home state to start over. It all ended up awesome in the end....I have 4 grandchildren now and technology allows me to see them grow up 850 miles away. I didn't have that option with my kids back then.
@CyclingThroughLife
Friend - so much suffering you have gone through.
Hi, everyone,
I think I recently made it, but I'm not sure because it hasn't started yet. I decided to go to school for a masters degree. My classes start this week.
@purpleTree4652
You show courage! I wish you all the best for your classes.
@purpleTree4652 sounds like you stepped out of your comfort zone.
How are classes going so far?
@soulsings
One professor has such a welcoming delivery and is easy to communicate with. The other professor is a bit of a nightmare. She has a discussion board with the discussion topics already laid out for each week, where we are supposed to go and have discussions on multiple topics. That doesn't include class time where we are to discuss the readings. She has a paper with instructions for a final project, and weekly assignments on the course schedule. She gives us a weekly reflection topic but tells us we don't have to reflect weekly. We have weekly zoom meetings but tells us we won't have the zoom meetings weekly, even though she does not let us know the dates we won't zoom in advance. I could go on.
I applied to the office of disability services and they accepted me. They're going to provide services to me as a disabled student. This affects the professors as they will change my assignments to take the pressure off. Unfortunately, my intake appointment isn't until the 1st of September, and I will have had 2 weeks of classes already. So the professors are in limbo with me. They can only proceed and offer to help me if I need it. The one professor has been on top of this and very sweet about it. The other professor has been silent, except for today saying that if any of what i need is to do with her assignments to let her know. I'd love to let her know that I wish she wasn't the instructor.
I also start my new job next Monday. It's a great job so I don't want to mess it up.
@soulsings
Thanks for asking.
@soulsings
Good question and it depends possibly on how long one has lived. Some decisions might be tough without being important and the reverse is true as well.
Moving to NYC when I had been so happy living in Japan so far was a reluctant decision, but then I was hired at the United Nations and it was a great move. My life would have been very different if I had not worked there.
@soulsings Dropping out of college. I had spent 3 years and had yet to learn anything significant to support the career I wanted. Was forced to take a break for 2 semesters because the money from selling my car was used by my family to buy my sister a car when I needed it to buy a working laptop, which led to a severe depression for about 2 years. When I return to college, I began to feel like I'm wasting my time, I could just go work and start living unlike my colleagues who had graduated but don't even know a thing about how to live as an adult yet.
so yeah, I dropped out of college and it felt like a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders. My family is panicking, some would be outraged once they find out. But I don't care tbh, my mental health and happiness is my priority. I'm only going to do things I want to do now.
@kannaffordthis parental expectations can weigh heavily on their children. Hope you find fulfillment from work and life.
@soulsings Thank you, I will do my best
@kannaffordthis
Friend.
Maybe you've learned a big lesson now how to take your own steps (as you tell), not dictated by your surroundings. I hope you find many fulfilling moments on your path.

- Walking away from my family with no contact all alone at 17. It benefited me by learning how to make it on my own. I am self-taught in life. good and bad.
@WorkingitThrough2
Friend.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this. (I would never had the strength to do that at such a young age). What bad circumstanses you must have had.
