Sometimes it’s hard to share how we’re feeling. If that happens to you, what helps you express your feelings?

For me, it helps when my therapist gives me phrases I can say to start the discussion. Sometimes I get so flustered and anxious that I can’t get the words out. She helps me work out what I want to say.

@thoughtfulmomma I love this for you! How wonderful and lovely it must be to have such a caring therapist to help you be able to voice these things. ❤️

@amiablePeace77 it's probably not a great way but it works for me, kinda, I isolate and just think, cry a bit, talk to God.

@Tinywhisper11 💜 This is what I do too. Hey, if it works for you... it works! I know it does for me. 😀

It's usually hard for me to open up and when the emotions bottle up, I let them flow and cry. But when I am calmer I like to share my thoughts with people I'm comfortable with.

@trueconfidant123 Nothing like a good cry! Release all that's bottled up and having a good cry is relieving! 🤗👐🫂

@RunningMachine

I find journaling is a good way to share feelings. Journals are patient and no risk of oversharing! 😉

Journalling is definitely helping, focus on recurring thoughts, investigate and try to clear them, it has helped.

hmmmmm I would say i usually bottle my emotions till I just randomly cry. probably not the best method. I did just recently make a member account and talk to some listeners which did actually help.

I have to have my own space.

If I don't want to talk, I need others to respect it.

When I process it, I'm usually happier to open up.

But there's only a very small select group I open up to 🩷

I can relate to what you say. To me, there is no need to share with everyone but just people I consider trustworthy and important to me.

When you are a small child, you pretty much express ALL your feelings. As you grow up, your life experience points to what feelings you can generally share and which ones you should keep to yourself, or.... how to express them, particularly if they are "bad" ones. It is difficult for people we call emotional, as they cannot contain their tears or temper, my late husband being one of those cases.

Luckily, playing music or singing was a frequent go-to in my life. Living with pets also gave an outlet. People have noticed that when I go through hard times, my jokes get darker. I was a riot with my friends when my husband passed away, for instance. It is a way to hide strong feelings.

These days, I am rather confident about expression. A friend of mine, who knows everything about what I am going through with my fatal condition, was talking with me on a WhatsApp video call. She's got a sore back, but her life is not in danger. At the same time she was minimizing my situation as if I could snap out of it. So.... I let her know how that made me feel in no uncertain terms, particularly that her issues and mine could not be compared. I did not speak in anger, because it was just a correction or lesson and my goal was more to point out how out of touch it made her look. I understand her sore back is at times debilitating, but there is no competition.

Generally, I am pretty good at waiting before I express any negative reaction, if I do at all. it is a social skill like any other.

Sometimes it’s hard to share how we’re feeling. If that happens to you, what helps you express your feelings?

I admire you for your response to what she said. You did not speak in anger, because it was just a correction or lesson and your goal was more to point out how out of touch it made her look—to be able to respond like this, in your situation, one needs to be very strong! 👍

It honestly depends. Sometimes I feel like I have a few people I can genuinely talk to so I'll reach out to them and see if they're available to talk about my emotions. However, there are days where I don't feel like directly communicating my feelings with people so I'll turn to journaling or even just standing outside for a little bit can really help!

I'm glad that your journaling or standing outside helps you when you don't feel like talking!
