Everyone at some point wants to take a break.

  • What do you want to take a break from?
  • How can you take a break from that?

@soulsings oh🤔🤔 I don't know, I have a great life, and I do everything I love to do. There are definitely things that I would like a break from, but they are not possible, stuff like pain, or my own mind. Otherwise though I wouldn't change one thing about my life ❤

@Tinywhisper11 pain is something that sometimes I would like to take a break from. I sometimes think that if it were not for pain I would not have joined 7 Cups and missed this whole experience, so I do find some benefits to paiin.

I am able to take breaks from my mind if only a micro vacation. I will follow the breath or do the loving kindness meditation. I posted it here on 7 Cups so if you are interested in trying it here is the link:

Those are good questions soulsings!

I want to take a break from worries about some administrative challenges irl. It's part of life and we all go through these challenges, yet they can feel frustrating. So I take walks outside to clear my head and feel better again. Another thing I find very helpful is not to expect that things are sorted out in short time but practise patience.

Thank you for the two great questions!

I wanna take a break from some members of my so called “family”, stress, anxiety, hate, violence, all other negativity, etc. I actually wanna take a permanent break from all this stuff lol.

How can I take a break from this stuff? Idk if I can take a temporary break much less a permanent break from some of this stuff. But the stuff I can take a break from like certain family members, stress, anxiety can be done.

Family members….avoid/distance myself from them as much as I can. It’s unhealthy being around or even near them or even hearing them talk as nothing good comes out of their overactive mouths.

Stress and anxiety…..engage in activities that will bring me happiness or keep me happy like exercise (physical and mental), be productive, sleep at night as much as possible but up to 7-8 hours.

@akunknown people that are around us can influence our state of mind. I hear you wanting to be free of them.

In my case there have been people who I had to be around that displayed anger and other triggering emotions but I have been able to practice non reaction and setting inner boundaries so I do not get into the negative emotions.

@soulsings: Yeah I’ve had to be around people that did not benefit me to be around for many years of my life. I set boundaries as clearly as I could multiple times. It’s not that they did not understand. They just did not care enough to respect me enough to listen to anything I say and respect my boundaries. So after years of trying to make it work with them I’m now in a situation where I’m forced to distance myself from them.

Thank you so much for your response.

@akunknown it is a shame that others do not respect our boundaries. One way I set up boundaries is by only talking about the issues I feel comfortable with talking to certain people. I usually assume that people that are already difficult are not going to change if I ask them to so I set the boundaries in my mind and figure out ways to keep me safe.

@soulsings: You have a very smart way of setting boundaries and I agree with you that difficult people will not change.

@alysianna great ideas to get away for a while. Hope it happens in a nice way.

@alysianna: I’m definitely with you on family as it’s the same with me even if the reasons for wanting to take a break from family is different for us.

As for screens, that’s a healthy break that you have control over and can take a break whenever you want and the break can be as long and as many times as you decide. I take screen breaks everyday by engaging in other activities that take up my time like exercising, listening to music, etc. Daytime screen breaks are a habit now for me. I’ve begun working on it becoming a habit for me at night too. I’m not quite there yet but I’ll be there at some point.

Best of luck for you on this :)

@Iamwhoiamwhoami what I want to take a break from is my self centered attitudes becasue 9 times out of 10 that gets me in trouble. If I could get rid of that I woule be a lot happier.

I'd like to take a break from all the responsibilities I have.  But I can't.  I mean, I can, but while I'd be on break, so many things wouldn't happen, and then I'd come back to an even bigger mess to take care of.

@thoughtfulmomma that was how I felt at my job because people could not do my job so it just piled up until I returned.

I need a break from interpersonal stress. Specifically mean-spiritedness, high expectations, un-constructive criticism, and attacks on my personality. How to take that break, I don’t know. Trying to ignore and accept it makes things worse, trying to talk about it makes it worse. Remove the person from my life. How many times will I have to do that? Is there no one who can stay and just be nice to me?

@soulsings Take a break from this life.

By hibernating like tartigrades.

Ps: yes, I'm another guy who hates himself.

@ShivajiTheDadOfAurangzeb1008 when I hated myself it was because I compared myself to what I thought others were and I never could live up to that idealized picture I created. Accepting myself has lessened the criticisms I make of myself.

@soulsings

I am so dumb that accepting myself itself is a hard thing for me! How can I accept a dumb person who has no purpose in life?

@ShivajiTheDadOfAurangzeb1008 the first step is to abandon the critical voice in your head, the inner critic. They have nothing good to say about anyone.

User Profile: akunknown
akunknown June 4th, 2024

@ShivajiTheDadOfAurangzeb1008: Please don’t ever say that about yourself. Please don’t even think that. Because you are not dumb. Lots of people have a hard time accepting themselves. Does that mean that a lot of people are dumb? No. Absolutely not. It took me a long time to finally accept myself because of how hard it was. Doesn’t mean I’m dumb.

As far as having a purpose in life, you most certainly have a purpose in life. Everyone does. That’s what I believe. You just don’t know what it is yet and that’s perfectly fine. There’s no deadline where you must know what your purpose in life is by a certain point or age. Many people find out what their purpose is very late in their lives while others know early. And there’s no one way to find out what it is. Who knows? Maybe, just maybe, your purpose might be to help others who think about themselves the same way you currently think about yourself and help them change their self thoughts.

If that is your purpose, you may figure that out after you change the way you think of yourself.

If you need help accepting yourself because it’s too hard or/and you don’t know how to, that’s ok. Ask for help and support from a therapist or friend or family member who you trust enough to talk to about this and ask them for help. Best of luck to you. I hope it works out :)

@soulsings: I used to compare myself to others and believed I would never be able to reach their levels. But those days are gone and now I keep reminding myself “never say never” and I’ve accepted myself and love, respect and appreciate just the way I am and realize there’s nothing wrong with me. Since then, no more self criticisms or self judging :) So I completely understand where you were coming from.

@soulsings I wanna take a break from life. I feel like it's too hard to deal with it lately

soulsings OP June 6th, 2024

@Bristol I hear you. I have to sit down and have a heart to heart talk with myself.  I ask myself:

  1. What is causing me the most stress in life?
  2. Is there anything I can do about it?
  3. What can I do about it?
  4. If not how can I cope with it?

I try to reduce stress in other ways like 5 minutes Tai Chi and or Adriennes Complete betinners yoga.

I look to see if I am doing things that are leaving me depressed like intoxicants or lots of sugar and carbs. I try to exercise and keep my body feeling limber.

I look at my expectations. Are they realistic or not? Do I expect to get my happiness from other people or things? That has never worked for me in the long term.

Mindfulness has helped me. Either on videos on Youtube or Palouse Mindfulness or right here at 7 Cups on Mondays 3:30 PM EDT and Thurseays (today) at 5 PM EDT. Room opens for 18+ over 10 minutes before the discussion begins.
