...See more As you begin to go through the golden years, we begin to set boundaries so we can live a happy and healthy life mentally and physically. Boundaries scare us through physical and societal rules that force you to confront vulnerable times that change your roles and morality. Setting and accepting boundaries late in life carry higher stakes because we are negotiating the remaining time we have, our energy to do things and our independence to live alone. Setting boundaries helps a carer from burning out, manages any guilt we have, and maintains a healthy relationship. Healthy boundaries will reduce resentment, prevent burnouts, and give you free time to enjoy your lives with those we love. We want to be able to live like we have been growing up and not overcome problems without working through them. How can we set boundaries for our golden years? ...See more y. They feel it is too late to try something new, to grow, and to enjoy the rest of your life to the fullest. Encouraging movements that feel good: As you grow older, staying active mentally and physically is a good way to keep our health moving. Being mobile helps us reduce stress, sleep better at night, and boost our moods.  Help finding them a sense of purpose: Hope grows when you're feeling loved and wanted in other people's lives. Retirement, health issues, and losses of loved ones can make an older person feel not wanted in life. We need to make elders feel their presence is much needed in life and encourage them to stay fit so they can live life fully. Connect through communities, clubs, and social events: Isolation can drain someone mentally, making them not feel like they matter or making them feel like they will be left out of life. When they join clubs and workshops, they're building new friendships while learning new hobbies. Talking to someone who can help: The best support system can come from family and friends. We can include them in our daily activities and talk with them about mental well-being. We can give support to them by listening and helping them feel accepted.  How can we keep hope in our lives as we age? The fear of Judgement in Seniors

...See more As we grow older, the fear of judgment comes from hoping we fit into a society of becoming older, not being seen in our society, and the physical and mental decline in our health. While we were growing up, our adolescent and adult lives were filled with fear of being accepted for who we became, doing a good job at our workplaces, and being accepted in our age groups. It is similar to this now in our senior years.  How to overcome anxiety as we age: Try small experiments: try doing something positive without thinking a negative thought of "I can't do this" or "Do I sound too old?" Shift from outcomes to value: Shift your fear into a positive. Look for positive values you're wanting in your senior years: being healthy physically and mentally, enjoying time spent with grandchildren, and spending time with people our age. Tame the Inner Critic: Turn off the negativity and tell yourself you can do anything you set your mind to, although it might take longer than when we were younger to do. Think of positive affirmations and silently say them to yourself when doing a chore or project. Silence the inner critic: We need to learn to silence our inner critic into giving us positive things, not negative. We can do anything we set our mind and heart into doing; we just need to tell ourselves that. How can we not judge ourselves for growing older? How can you help yourself go through things as you grow older to not worry so much? ...See more As we grow older, we need to maintain a healthy mental and physical well-being for ourselves. Anxiety and depression happen to everyone at any age; with the proper medical help of a therapist or psychologist, we can provide ourselves with mental well-being. Mental challenges are a part of life for any age. It is important to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle for yourself regardless of how old you are.  We may become depressed as we grow older because aging does not come with instruction; we are just to continue to live the life we have been. Seniors can get depressed because as they are aging, they do not live close to their family members, and their friends begin to die, leaving them feeling alone. Depression in seniors can sometimes be hard to notice. They begin to not talk a lot as they used to about their feelings, thinking no one may not care about them because they're busy living their own life. The signs and symptoms can be different for everyone depending on their upbringing, lifestyle, and fear of talking about what is really bothering them. People from different cultures present themselves differently, and that can be hard for those wanting to help in actually getting the senior to open up and talk. Here are some constant symptoms of depression for seniors: persistently sad or empty inside feeling of hopelessness and guilt. restless or having trouble sitting for a long period of time decrease fatigue or energy to do things, even simple chores How can we help our seniors more into talkin more about their feelings? ...See more We all look to improve our lifes as we grow older, and when we begin our senior years we tend to continue on being healthy, maintaining our lives without help from others, and to live a productive lifestyle as we grow older. We can improve our lives by continuing to be active, eating healthier and getting tohe proper sleep we need each night. You can continue to keep the strong social bonding you have with friends and family, walking whether outside or indies, swimming and eating healthier to get the main life. We all are growing older we need to face facts, but keeping a healthy life we can go into our senior years just as we have growing up. We do not want to have to be depened on others to help you, we want to be able to maintain our lives and live happily. How can you keep active and stay health as you grow older? ...See more We all want to continue to live a full and healthy life as we grow older, some people work out the keep their strength and muscles built, others walk to keep healthy, and some try to lose weight and be healthier as the age. Some people may of been skinny their whole life and then notice at a certain age they begin to weigh more than they did. In maintaining a healthy weight focus on strengthening your training to focus on counteract weight loss. Older adults need fewer calories, but by watching what we eat as we grow older we can maintain a healthy life. Some people may eat fewer and smaller intake of food, structuring our daily intake of carbs and proteins help in keeping fit. It is shown eating smaller meals throughout the day is healthy for seniors. You may go to a dietician to work on eating helathier than we did growing up. Each person is different some can lose weight quicker than others, it depends on how active you stay in growing older. Exercising and eating healthier meals can help to maintain a healthy body. While your life is going fast it is easy to forget to eat healthy and exercise. We find reasons not to fit that in our daily lives. Some may walk in the morning before dealing with the stress-filled life they have, others may walk at night as a wind down from a stresfsful day.  How can we put eating healthier and exerciseing into our daily routine ? ...See more Strengthening your capabilities as we grow older requires being proactive. We focus on physical exercise that keeps you healthy, incorporating vascular exercising and cognitive stimulation. Consistency is the most important of all. We need to be consistent in our aging to maintain a mental and physical mentality as we age. When you keep a physical exercise routine, you're keeping your body healthy: walking up stairs, walking around the block or in a park, carrying groceries you just shopped for, and standing up from a chair without any troubles or help. Maintaining physical activities helps you maintain a healthier body. Here are some examples: Resistance training: training 2-3 times a week on cardiovascular exercises. This does not have to be heavy lifting of weights but weights you're able to do. You do not need a gym membership for this; it can be done in the confinements of your home. Aerobic health: take a brisk walk in places where you will get enough walking in, such as a mall, park, beach boardwalks, nature, and around the block where you live. It can also be swimming or riding a bike to improve your cardiopulmonary areas of your body. Balance and Flexibilities: As we grow older, our balance (standing up straight and walking) begins to decline.  Incorporating leg exercises will help you. Activities like yoga and tai chi can also help you. Nutrition: Eating right as we grow older is very important to make sure we are getting the proper vitamins and minerals needed in our daily meals. Mental capabilities:  Lifelong learning: Taking up a new hobby helps build the brain and keep it active. Some people do a board game or puzzles to keep the brain moving properly. Social Connections: Staying in touch with family and friends keeps you from feeling lonely and not wanted. You may join a local community at the library to meet new friends. Sleep and Stress Management: Getting the proper 7-8 hours of recommended sleep at night is also good for you. Getting the proper sleep requirements helps your brain process and recharge itself. Five fun things to do for self care as we age

...See more As we all grow older, we tend to wonder what aging for us will be like. Will we be able to do things we did when we were younger? Can we maintain a healthy lifestyle as we age? The answer is yes, with determination we still can do things we did when we were growing up; it may take a little more time in completing things, a chore, a project like building something, walking, and being healthy. Prioritizing your well-being, like mindfulness and meditation, tai chi, and creating something by hand or having a hobby, allows you to still stay active as you grow older. I'll admit we all have concerns about aging. Will we be able to live on our own? Will our children need to put us in an assisted living facility? This all depends on how healthy mentally and physically we can be. Here are some things we can do as fun activities as we get older: Take up Tai Chi or Chair Yoga: these low-impact practices can help keep you mentally and physically healthy without hurting you. It will boost our energy and improve our balance when we walk. Learn something new: We can take up a hobby at a local community center or library. We can take art classes, gardening, swimming, walking, and working at a gym. This helps our minds to stay sharp and stimulates our cognitive functions. Getting outside even for 15 minutes: We can go for walks in a local park or beach, walk in our neighborhood, and enjoy what outside gives us. Outside activities can help our senses give us life. Keeping our brain active: do crossword puzzles or jigsaw puzzles, mind-altering games such as hidden objects, or reading a favorite book.  Practice gratitude journaling: we can keep a daily journal of things we did or want to do and praise ourselves with positive affirmations over things we did that may have been hard or tough to conquer. This helps our emotional balance and reduces anxiety and stress. What are some fun things you may want to learn as you grow older or continue to do ? How can we accept that we are all getting older? ...See more Do you ever feel burnt out or emotionally overloaded in life recently? It feels like the body is responding to prolonged stress, leaving your body feeling drained and numb. This is known as being emotionally exhausted.  Emotional exhaustion is when things build up inside you until you either snap or have a breakdown fit of crying. Emotional exhaustion consists of being emotional and physically tired. You begin to tighten your jaw and shoulders, your heart races faster than normal, and you do not know what to do. Some examples of emotional symptoms include: anxiety  depression the feeling of hopelessness feeling trapped forgetfulness or lack of lack of motivation nervousness and on the verge of crying Physical symptoms are  fatigue headaches lack of an appetite upset stomach poor sleeping habits Emotional exhaustion is treated by eating a proper diet, eliminating or minimising stress, exercising daily, and getting plenty of sleep. Practising mindfulness can also help reduce these feelings. Mindfulness will help by noticing what is making you feel like this, coming up with a plan on how to reduce the stress factor, and moving on in the present. ...See more When you embrace positivity as you grow older, this is a powerful tool for living a fulfilled life span, protecting your mental and physical health, and deepening your life's satisfaction. What does positive aging mean? It is defined as the process of maintaining a positive attitude, feeling good inside about yourself, and keeping fit and healthy as you grow older.  In the past, people thought growing up to age 50 was over the hill until you reached the age and thought back, "How could I be naive?" Now at age 50 you are aging into the second half of your life, with senior discounts, living in 50+ communities, and so much more. Some people who are older than 50 return back to school for a new career, lifting weights and going to the gym to remain healthy, and maybe opening a business or working part-time to stay active rather than staying home and being bored. How can you accept you are getting older? What can you do to remain mentally and physically healthy? ...See more As we grow older, we see ourselves setting boundaries because it is vital self-care for us. When you set boundaries at any age, especially as we get older, we are protecting our time, energy, and mental health. As we transgress into different ages in life, we are communicating clearly with our physical and mental states. Setting boundaries will help reduce resentment and prevent you from burning out. We know how to set boundaries when we are younger; why can we not set boundaries as we grow older? We need to know what we want in our life as we grow old and stick to the boundaries we have made. We set boundaries for what we want others to know in our lives, not others dictating how we should live because they are not us. We set boundaries so we can have a healthy environment physically and mentally. What boundaries would you set for yourself as you grow older? ...See more Mental health concerns affect you as you grow older in life. We may have more depression and anxiety, and some may be diagnosed with dementia. We also begin to worry about active care for us. Can we continue to live alone, or will we need assisted living facilities? As we grow older, we do not want to be a burden on our families to where they begin to worry about our well-being. Some will be out of state, living further away from our parents, and begin to worry about things that can happen because we are not there. Key mental health concerns: Depression and Anxiety: Depression is common at any age, but the older people will seem to have more of this because their friends are dying and children have moved away. and facing being alone a lot more than before. Dementia: As someone grows older, they may begin to be forgetful, forget to take their meds, shower, eat, and take care of themselves like they used to when they were younger. Social Isolation: They may begin to not socialize or get out as much as they used to. Some may be afraid to go shopping by themselves or go to social places like bingo or diners to see friends. Physical Health Issues: Some may begin to have chronic health illnesses. functioning capabilities (cannot do things themselves), we may begin to lose our hearing or our sight and cannot get around like we used to. Loss and transition: We may begin to lose our memory of things that are easier to remember (what to get at the grocery stores). We may begin to feel we will be a burden asking our loved ones or friends for help. How can you prepare yourself for getting older?
