...See more "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it." — Maya Angelou To Our Newcomers: A warm, heartfelt welcome to you! We're so glad you're here and part of our caring community. Whether you're seeking support, connection, or a safe space to share, you belong here. ♥️  To Our Returning Members: It’s wonderful to have you back! Your presence and kindness make this community stronger. Thank you for being here.  ❤️ This August, we honor Never Give Up Day (August 18th), a reminder of the incredible strength we carry, even on the hardest days. Let’s celebrate resilience, hope, and the power of lifting each other up.   🌈 Monthly Prompts & Activities: 1️⃣ Share Your Comeback Story – Tell us about a time you kept going, even when things felt impossible. Your strength inspires others!   2️⃣ Encourage a Fellow Member – Leave a kind note or supportive message for someone who might need a boost.   3️⃣ Self-Care Challenge – Try one small act of self-kindness each day (e.g., a walk, journaling, or a mindful break).   4️⃣ Never Give Up Playlist – Share songs that motivate you to push through hard times.   Let’s make this month a reminder that no one walks alone. Every step forward—no matter how small, is worth celebrating. We’re so grateful you’re here with us! ♥️  Gentle Reminder: You matter. You’re valued. And you’re never alone. 🌹

A Belated Welcome to May: Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
by Angelanj

...See more "Little by little, a little becomes a lot." – Tanzanian Proverb 🌱 Hello everyone, Welcome to newcomers and returning members of the depression support community. Whether you just joined or are coming back after time away, you belong here. 💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month. First, I want to sincerely apologize for this late post. This month carries such an important message, and it's one worth sharing no matter the date. Even as we move further into the month, the focus remains the same: the courage to keep going, the power of small actions, and the hope that tiny joys can still reach us. This month's prompt: Create a Dopamine Menu 🍏: What is a Dopamine Menu? A Dopamenu is a simple tool to help you boost your mood and motivation. Just like a food menu, it gives you choices. You pick activities based on how much time and energy you have. The goal is to help your brain release dopamine or the "feel-good" chemical, without pressure or perfection. Blank Template : Example of Dopamenu 🍈: How to Use your Dopamine Menu : Step 1: Print or save the blank template. Step 2: Fill in each section with your own ideas. Use the example for inspiration. Step 3: When you feel stuck, pick one thing from your menu. Start with a Starter if you're really low. Step 4: Do it. No pressure to finish. No guilt if you stop early. Step 5: Repeat whenever you need a boost. Feel free to share your Dopamine Menu in the comments! Sending love and light, Angelanj

August Check in 🔥

August 24th
...See more This August has truly been an explosive time for me. In my culture, the number 8 represents boundless potential; turn it sideways, and it becomes the symbol of infinity. I am not sure if your culture shares this view, but for me, it signifies a powerful, fiery 🔥 energy. It is time to clear away the clutter, things that no longer fit or cannot accompany us on the journey ahead, thereby easing the pain of letting go. What's your 🔥 this month?

Break inertia with a Buddy
by HealingTalk
Last post
April 9th, 2024
...See more In Depression the very things that are likely to improve our mood and make us feel better, such as exercise, social connections, and engaging in enjoyable activities, are often the things that depression makes most difficult to do. Depression can cause low energy, lack of motivation, and social withdrawal. These can make it difficult to engage in activities that require physical or emotional effort, such as exercising or socializing. In this way, depression can create a negative cycle, where a lack of engagement in positive activities leads to worsening mood and motivation, which in turn reinforces a lack of engagement. We know that some things are helpful against Depression, like going for a walk, exposure to sunlight, or spending time in uplifting activities, but the very thought of doing them may feel overwhelming. This can create a sense of frustration or guilt, which further reinforces negative beliefs about one's ability to engage in positive activities. An effective way, backed by science, to break this negative cycle and establish useful habits against Depression, is to tell regularly someone how you are doing in establishing these habits. to help break the inertia and establish healthful habits you might team up with a buddy, define a goal (like walking, exercising, or socializing often) and report regularly your progress to your "accountability Buddy". Find a Buddy in the Pen Pal Community HERE [https://www.7cups.com/forum/penpals/] !

Forgiveness: Group Chat and Forum Discussion
by HealingTalk
Last post
July 29th, 2023
...See more This Discussion is part of the "Forgiveness" monthly event by the Depression Support Community. ------------------------- Join us for a Group Chat session on Forgiveness this Saturday 29 of July at 5 pm ET in the Depression Support Room (Adults). ------------------------- The power of Forgiveness Forgiveness can be a powerful help for dealing with depression. However, it is very a personal decision, and might be a challenging process. It may not be possible or appropriate in all circumstances. And, while it always will imply moving out of your "comfort zone", it should never be forced nor rushed. If you find it possible and appropriate, some benefits of practicing Forgiveness might be: Reducing resentment and anger: Holding onto grudges and resentment can be emotionally draining and can contribute to feelings of anger and frustration. By practicing forgiveness, we can let go of these negative emotions, leading to a sense of emotional relief. Stop obsessing with negative memories: Sometimes we dwell on thoughts about negative past events involving people who might have hurt us. Forgiveness can help break this cycle by shifting the focus away from past grievances and towards our present, prioritizing our healing path over keeping those grudges and grievances. Lowering stress and anxiety: Carrying the burden of unresolved conflicts or holding grudges can increase stress and anxiety. Forgiveness can promote a greater sense of inner peace, which can be helpful in managing depression. Improving relationships: Unresolved conflicts and harbored resentments can strain relationships and our support networks. By practicing forgiveness, we can improve relationships with people around us and create a more supportive environment, which can improve our mental health. Promoting personal growth and resilience: Forgiving others and oneself can be very empowering. It might help us feel in control instead of helpless victims, and develop resilience in the face of adversity. ------------------------- Come to share your opinions and experiences on Forgiveness in our Group Chat, this Saturday 29 of July at 5 pm ET in the Depression Support Room (Adults) ------------------------- The ideas and materials for organizing this Group Support chat session were prepared by @MeaningfulSilence Thank you, Silence! ------------------------- See you there!
