Updates from 7 Cups Group Support
Hello Community,
I have some important news, updates, and reminders for everyone. All texts in blue color are hyperlinked and clickable.
Team Communication. @AlwaysEli will be helping us with the group support team communications. They will be responsible for organizing, scheduling, and hosting team meetings with Room Supports, Chat Room Moderators, and Support Team Leaders. They will also be hosting weekly Room Supporter and Chatroom Moderator Discussions to touch base on different topics. It will allow us to address concerns, brainstorm ideas, and problem-solve to support the community. Please join me to appreciate their thoughts and efforts to support us.
Listener Sharing Circle Team Leaders. Please join me to congratulate @KristinHelps and @Asruu to be the official Team Leads for Listener Sharing Circle. They stepped up to manage and run the Listener Sharing Circle Team and did well supporting the community in the last month. They will continue to support the team and work closely with @PenguinPower31 (Chatroom Mentor Leader- Discussions) to help us run them smoothly.
Teens Listener Sharing Circle. We are updating the timing for Teens Listener Sharing Circle Sessions. Earlier they were running at 4.00 AM and 4.00 PM. But due to less host coverage, the sessions are not active. So, the revised session timings are 8.00 AM and 8.00 PM. All are welcome to join us.
Listener Learning & Journey Master Forum Organizer. Please join me to congratulate @LuluRings who help us organize the resources and various threads in the Listener Journey Sub-community. Better structuring and organizing of them will facilitate any listener to navigate the Listener Journey forum in an improved way.
Doorkeepers. We will be doing the badge reset for doorkeepers at the end of every quarter. It is to ensure we all are proactive to manage the opening and closing of the chat rooms to help in community participation. If you are a doorkeeper, then your doorkeeper badge will be removed and you would need to reapply to get the badge. To reapply, please fill this form! For Quarter III, the badge will be removed on Sept 30, 2020.
7Cups Rules Handbook. We are creating a 7Cups Rules Handbook. I will start with compiling all the rules and the forum threads related to it for the Group Support and then we progress to Forums and 1-1s as well. It will allow us to keep all rules and policies and any new changes to it in one place. Also, facilitate quick reference to updated ones back and forth for everyone.
Room Participation. This is a reminder to use the various rooms to every room supporter and chat room moderator they are listed for. Even Community Mentor or the Community Mentor Leader can open the room as per their availability. Please feel free to get the room opened and support the members. You could lead the pop-up discussions or open chats. Your efforts and support will be much appreciated.
Community Discussions. All the support sessions and guided discussions will be scheduled as they need to regardless of what other sessions scheduled in the same block. These support sessions, discussions are the different choices we offer to our community members. They can participate in one or more than one as per their preference and support needs. So, all forms of discussions are a way to listen, help, and support our members. A reminder and request to all Support Team Leaders or Discussions Leaders to get their discussion listed in the community calendar. To get your discussion listed, please submit the info here.
Community Calendar Reset. The discussions listed in the community calendar will be reset on Sept 30, 2020. We reset the calendar at the end of every quarter. So, all are requested to resubmit your discussions to get listed in the community calendar on or after Oct 01, 2020.
Monthly Community Meeting. The monthly meeting for September will be as follows.
All times are in the Eastern Time Zone. Please use this converter to know what time it will be in your time zone.

@ASilentObserver The updates to Listener Learning & Journey forum organization and the new Rules Handbook sound fantastic!! Thank you so much!!
For the Rules Handbook, I have a few recommendations for possible things to keep in mind during this process:
1) Put the Rules Handbook in a prominent location where everybody can find it.
The nightmare scenario I really want to avoid is that we have a stunningly beautiful Rules Handbook but only the most involved community users know where to find it (or that it even exists) and the main way users discover it is either through word of mouth or just so happening to be on the site at the time that it is announced.
If this Rules Handbook is something very important that we really want everybody to see, then it should be in such an obvious place that users practically *stumble* over it by accident even if they aren't actively looking for it. My recommendation would be to have it be somewhere on the top bar, either as its own button or as one of the drop-down options. (I've seen some screenshots in forum threads of an older version of the 7 Cups site that had the site rules as a button at the top.)
2) Differentiate between Listener and Member rules.
It should be clear for all rules whether they apply to all site users, Listeners only, or Members only.
3) Make all rules visible to both Listeners and Members.
Another recommendation I have is that both Members and Listeners should be able to see all policies that exist, even if they don't apply to the account that they're logged into.
For example, the Community Guidelines page currently displays only the Listener rules when I'm logged into my Listener account and only the Member rules when I'm logged into my Member account.
It would be helpful for Listeners to also know exactly what Members are and aren't allowed to do so that they can confidently set boundaries (e.g. if a Member is being rude/abusive to me in a 1-on-1 chat). The same is true for Members knowing what Listeners are allowed to do so that they are able to confidently block/report Listeners who are doing something wrong without feeling like their complaints are purely subjective or it's "all in their head".
4) Maintain or remove out-of-date information in other locations.
Once these rules are set up, there needs to be a process for making sure that any other highly visible locations on the site that reference rules/policies are kept up-to-date and consistent with the current Rules Handbook. A few examples that come to mind for me of things that would need to be maintained:
- Initial Active Listener training
- New Listener Primer
- Help Center pages
- Any informational/marketing materials, terms-of-service agreements, or other pages that members/listeners might look at upon first opening/joining the site
In some cases, this might also mean removing resources that are obsolete and are a source of confusion (e.g. the Wiki).
@QuietMagic
Thank you for this!
@QuietMagic Yes! I think the handbook will be useful and helpful but so much about the consistency point. It's confusing when policies conflict and it's unclear what's the current one - which isn't even always seen by everyone.
@QuietMagic
You have made such good points!
All of these should be implemented and more.
@ASilentObserver
Thanks for this helpful post and all the work!
@ASilentObserver This sounds great, thank you. Particularly regarding the Rules Handbook: Hallelujah!!!! 🎊🎊🎊
