Breaking The Overthinking Trap Day 6
📅 Day 6: Dropping Anchor (Coming Back to the Body)
Welcome to Day 6! Overthinking pulls us completely out of reality and traps us in the future or the past. Today, we practice "dropping anchor" to bring ourselves back to the only place we actually have control over: the present moment.
🔍 Deep Dive Explanation
When your mind is in a storm, your body is your anchor. You can drop anchor by using your senses. Look around you right now and name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This quick grounding technique safely interrupts the brain's panic loop and signals to your nervous system that you are okay right here, right now.
❓ Reflection Questions for the Comments
• Try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method right now. Which sense helped pull you out of your head the most?
• What is your favorite physical sensation that instantly makes you feel safe and present (e.g., a warm cup of tea, a heavy blanket, the feel of fresh air)?

How do I get to the first day of this so I can read it all? I so desperately need to stop overthinking.
Thank you

- I will post this one tomorrow 🤗
5 things to see - phone, guinea pig cage, window, doodles, lamp
4 things to touch - phone, carpet, lettuce, hay
3 things to hear - Nessa chewing, Akira chewing, Raincloud chewing (my guinea pigs)
2 things to smell - lettuce, my overnight oats that I brought in to have a late breakfast with them.
1 thing to taste - said oats. They're pretty good.
As for a sensation that makes me feel safe and present? Probably my blankets at night. I pretend that they're Magitek armor, the kind from Final Fantasy 6. 😂
@Torean
I love the idea with the blankets and I really liked the examples you did with the 5-4-3-2-1 technique. Did it help? Do you think it could ground you? It really helps me to be honest
@cheerfulKiwi1776
Tbh I don't ever really do grounding techniques very often. Its kind of a hit or miss with me, sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't.
Hm.. my favorite physical sensation I guess would be like the feeling of my hoodie on my body.
@IzzyGamer
The feeling of your hoodie on you is really great! About the techniques some times not all work and I get it. You could find one suitable for you.
@IzzyGamer
What is one technique that works best for you?
@cheerfulKiwi1776
for me what helps me feel safe is to have blankets around me but have to be very soft ones at night to sleep i have to have them like in every side it like without them i get scared someone will climb in bed with me
even in day time it blankets but also i have few key-chains that like stuffed animal i can touch even when not at home so for me it things i can touch that helps as kid i had rocks in my pockets most the time
