Weekly Prompt #36: Can you list five things you love about yourself?
Hello all!

This week's prompt- Can you list five things you love about yourself?
We often find it easier to criticize ourselves rather than celebrate our strengths. But it is okay to practice self-love and acknowledge the positive qualities that make us unique individuals. So, let's reflect and list five things we love about ourselves.

I like 5 things about myself
1. My organization. I put all errands, work related stuff, and fun activities in my Google Calendar. It pays to be organized so I can complete my events.
2. My willingness to be prepared for stuff like tests and jobs.
3. I like that I'm working on being social and to not be afraid of people's opinion of me.
4. I like, well, learning to like the part of myself that I show at work in front of the students is super different than the way I am in my personal life - more quiet.
5. I like that I write. I am a Yelper so I give my opinion on restaurants or places I try. I like writing on ***, about my day. And I can add a picture with the caption.
This is so important! I'm working on exactly this right now- self-love and coming to embrace exactly the qualities that I was bullied for for so many years. I'll list some of these:
1- My sense of adventure. I love that I'll jump in a car without plans and head out into the world and push past my comfort zone.
2- My creative mind. This was the source of my poor grades in school and my disappointed parents. However, as I'm getting older, I'm realizing how much richer of a world I live in being able to think out of the box and in non-standard ways.
3- This is going to sound weird: my introverted nature. It's really freeing to be able to break past the social expectations of my surroundings to be loud and social and to be able to appreciate and enjoy less but deeper interactions with people.
4- Connected to the last point, depth. I don't like small talk and surface level. I like to discuss deep topics and like to delve into the books and movies I watch. Instead of being made fun of for this and being told to calm down and not get "obsessed", I'm learning to embrace this as being an awesome and rich way of living and to surround myself with likeminded people.
5- Lastly, I love that I enjoy art and music. Especially piano and drawing. Yes, it would be nice if my mind understood sports. But it doesn't. And guess what? That's ok. Art and music are ok as well!
@courageousRiver589 These are all great qualities to have River. I am glad you are embracing them. What steps are you taking to come to accept these parts of yourself?
I do a lot of self talk using various methods my therapist taught me. I provide myself with the confidence and self love I so badly need.
I have been trying to forge friendships with like minded people. I've actually made several such friends here on 7cups, and am open to more!
And as for the first and last point, those are easy! I just get out a lot more and draw and play piano, and embrace and enjoy it!
@courageousRiver589 I am glad you are actively working on accepting these parts of yourself through self-care activities and seeking out supportive relationships. Embracing our passions and engaging in hobbies can bring joy and help us feel more connected to ourselves. Keep taking your small steps, river and know you have us to support you
@ASilentObserver I'm cool (that is one is obvious - haha), I am detail oriented, I cheer for people to win, I'm resilient, I'm a survivor.
@livedexperiences I am glad you have some strengths that can serve you well in many areas of life. What do you think are some challenges right now?
@ASilentObserver nothing. My life is perfect 😃
I love my willingness to keep on living
I love how I waver but I don't fall
I love how after falling down I stand up
I love how if I don't stand up at least I try to stand up
I love how sometimes, when I am about to fall I save myself one inch above the ground
I love my willingness to try and partake in life even when all in me is screaming to lie down and die
I love about me that, after failing a hundred times I still try again
I love about me that I try to swallow my pride and listen to good advice
@Seacu I am glad you have found some strengths in yourself! What makes you feel like you can keep going despite feeling like giving up?
@ASilentObserver
I am really at a low point in life and I realize no matter how much I try to fight living there is no way out of it so I have to try to embrace it and try to find love within myself like a genuine love
@ASilentObserver
I love my strength
I love my heart
I love my way of interacting
I love my hands
I love my kindness
@RUMBUM This is good that you have a positive view of yourself. What makes you feel confident when you think about these qualities?
@ASilentObserver
im not really confident at the moment but ill try..
- i like that i have good values
- i like my wavy hair (a love-hate realationship but i mostly like it, its unique)
- I like that im empathetic and can show understanding to many people so maybe they feel a little bit less alone
- i like how im caring for my plants ( or do i just like my plants lol)
- a little bit superficial but i like my body. its healthy and that enables me to do soo much
@Keineahnung123 I am glad you gave it a shot and shared. It is okay if it feels challenging right now. Confidence comes and goes. What makes you think you have a love-hate relationship with your hair?
@ASilentObserver i always have the fear that my wavy/curly hair just looks messy to others. and it does look i little bit messy, sometimes more sometimes less. But i kinda like the messy look (to some extend). So in general i like it but sometimes i look in the mirror and hate it🤣😅
@ASilentObserver
Today 5/24/24
- I'm driven today to stay alive.
- I don't want to give up today....I feel like I do sometimes though
you know I can't come up with 5 things today :(
@reservedTangerine9348 I understand it feel challenging to focus on self-love when you're feeling low on energy and motivation. What thoughts pop into your mind when you try to think of things you love about yourself?
@ASilentObserver
Honestly I have to search for the words. I really don't view myself as others do. People say I'm intelligent, trustworthy, beautiful, honest...etc.
I need to work on this.
@ASilentObserver
It's 7/9/24. Going back and reading my post was sad to me. Today I can list 5!
- Today I handled my job like a boss.
- I am feeling beautiful!
- I am intelligent.
- I work with some of the funniest people I know, they make my day enjoyable!!
- I love my kids and can't wait to see them when I get off work.
I overall feel so much better since then!! Being sober adds a depth to my life that I seem to not notice when I was drinking.
Can you list five things you love about yourself?
I can't, no.
@Zeraphim I understand Zera, it is not an easy thing and that is okay. But you can try and share what you can. You don't have to list 5 but let's see if you can get closer to it. Want to give a try?
@ASilentObserver I have this block preventing me from acknowledging good things about myself. I have it in mind that I'll somehow become a narcissistic abuser if I go down that road, that it is safer to ignore myself.
I have never been able to say yes to this type of question.
@Iamwhoiamwhoami What stops you? ami like to share with us?
@ASilentObserver
50 years of self loathing
1. I'm feeling sad and bad abt myself. So I'm going to try a movie that's sad yet inspiring, and listen to a podcast abt invalidation and what to do when the happens. This way, I hope it's helping me feel better.
2. I make mistakes. And my partner asks me to correct it. And that was difficult to hear. I was unorganized which made him unable to understand how to cook the recipe. So he ate something different than me cuz it tasted better to him.
3. I like that I'm noticing I have yet to grow by looking and comparing the content I watch (bright, poppy, and based on feeling stuff...starting to analyze character and relationships instead of just a solo person) vs. My bf who watches things on a deeper level (vengeance, power, growth, battles, monsters, et).
My brain cannot do more..
4. I like my experiments.
5. I like that I starting to comment *** posts/news posts to share and declare my opinion and pov. Go me. Actually having an opinion/judgment.
@tealBear2472 Thank you for sharing bear. I am glad you are trying some self-care steps to lift your mood and learn from your experiences. What thoughts come up as you reflect on these moments where you felt sad or made mistakes?
@ASilentObserver
I get a pained thought. Like, I focus on the inward. My thoughts think it hurts.
@tealBear2472 Hi Teal, I hope you're well. I'm curious where you got the
idea from that the things you like are somehow immature while the
things your boyfriend likes are somehow deeper or perhaps more mature in comparison.
@Zeraphim
Maybe, I think, my things don't count.
Other people who can summarize...and use their words better than I can, paints a better picture than my picture. I guess I think that my bf is more analytical by watching these things whereas I don't learn...I just maintain my superficial happiness.
@tealBear2472 Do you agree that your happiness is superficial? If so, why? Is the happiness of everyone else also superficial, in your opinion? If so, why? If not, why are you the exception?
@Zeraphim Do you agree that your happiness is superficial? If so, why? Is the happiness of everyone else also superficial, in your opinion? If so, why? If not, why are you the exception?
Wow - zeraphim, these are good questions you asking : o
Ummm, Yes in a way. I guess my happiness requires me not to be active. I don't need to think or rembr. I just feel and react without knowing what happened long term.
Uhh that's interesting! I honestly thought I was the exception, but based on your question...I can point some people being superficial too with their happiness. There's nothing wrong with that...except if they want more depth to their watching, they should/can seek that out even if it's hard.
I think I get it now Z, my thinking is valid too. : o Ahaha thank you.
@Zeraphim
<3! I can think that now.
