Bullying and unkind moments can leave lasting effects on us, but so can the moments when someone shows up for us. Sometimes it’s a friend who speaks up, a teacher who notices, a coworker who steps in, or even a stranger who offers kindness at the right time.

At 7 Cups, I've always witnessed kindness and seen healing through sharing stories -- the good, the challenging and more!

This thread is a place to share the times when someone stood beside you, believed in you, or helped you feel safe.

Questions

1) Was there a time when someone stood up for you or supported you during a difficult moment?

2) How did their support make you feel?

3) What did you appreciate most about how they helped?

@SoulfullyAButterfly Actually there was 5 people in my life who stood up for me. 1. MY MOM in the 1980, 2. MY Late husband in the 2000’s, 3. A Guy who witnessed me being verbally abused and 4. my 9 year old granddaughter who witnessed someone trying to use me and the 5th one my daughter who gets exceptionally angry when someone talks against me or our family.

After around 17 years of life when I was 17 and my father do doing his regular daily belittling my mom for the VERY first time in the most quite and weak way said to my father "its not ok to say that every works, its not ok to say he doesn't work"

By work they meant tasks around th house and personal studies.

And that is it. She went back to being just s cook and cleaner and he kept doing this just like he has been since I was born.

The thing is I am SO VERY emotional unseen that that was the first time were I allowed my self to do a little bit of protest against him and it was letting a single tear fall and get up from dinner even though I didn't finish my plate and took my phone and get out of the room.

But did he notice that? *** no. I even heard him say "he is not annoyed why did you say i hurt him?" He told this to my mom about me so yeah. He is emotionally blind.

But that is not new news.

I felt very... human and cared for...and like... my suffering matters. And my pain has...value and that its important that I don't get hurt and when I do people will be concerned because its not some5hing they can ignore because they care. Made me feel like a boy and that I can be I nthis body and age with no... nagative self dislike like shame or hate or disassociate.

(Extra. Unrelated to the posts question)

I am looking to build myself... and be a spectacular man... so one day i can get married... and then... I will heal with her. My future wife has saved me from suicide multiple times. I wanted to just give up on life. Eat Nutella and consume porn all day and give up on feeling anything but I heard here voice... calling me her husband and... I jsut cant let her down. I CANT LET HER DOWN no matter how much I struggle.

I can only imagine just how much stress and fear you are in right now. Domestic violence are incredibly scary ☹️

But hey,

You are not alone in this. We are here to support you

You are doing the best you can in a messed up situation, a situation that shouldn't happen in the first place. I'm really really proud pf you, no one can handle this better than you had done

Thank you, I try my best, fail a lot, fail to see the happy ending, fail to continue but, god I just don't want to end this life of mine in misery and pain when I have my future wife waiting for me. Somewhere she is waiting...really waiting and I DONT DARE to disappoint her. I MUST continue. No other choice.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will use it as emotional fuel to keep going.

Was there a time when someone stood up for you?

Yes.

@AnnaSilverberg

How did their support make you feel?

It made me feel truly seen, appreciated, and valued. In that moment, I felt that I mattered.

What did you appreciate most?

I am still in awe of how they supported me without escalating the situation or choosing sides. They managed to be there for me with a quiet, steady presence that felt incredibly professional and safe.
