My fair lady 🥰
What does it mean to you when you hear the word feminine? So many women feel judged and shamed, this is a safe space to explore feelings while having an honest and respectful conversation!
💜💕
@Amanda84
I become angry when I hear it. Because many people suppress women, take freedom away from them, and many many things just because they are women.
Here, in Iran, women can't ride motorcycles (Some people do, but it's illegal). Women can't become judges or prosecutors. Women can't become singers. Women can't become president. They don't have as many legal rights as men. Women have to wear a scarf (have hijab). A lot more.
I like beauty. I don't have makeup, but I think my beauty standards are like Korean K-dramas as I watch them the most, a mix of male and female beauty. Feminine and masculine... I try my best to remove it from my mind though I can sometimes fail. Humans are humans. (Though I relate men with violence due to some things.) My hair is short like a Korean boy. Sometimes I ask myself am I trying to look like a boy? Or it's not? I'm not sure. But there were many times I felt that if I were a boy, my parents would treat me differently. The community would treat me differently.
I hate the idea that women should marry, have children and so on. Women and men don't have to marry to complete themselves. (The opposite is written in our school book, can you believe?) They are already complete. Bringing children to this world should be when everything is ready, not when the community or family think should be. I try my best not to ever let myself fall from a hole to a deeper one... Not to repeat the mistakes.
@moonlightinnight
I'm sorry you are treated like this and afforded such little opportunity. Women don't hate men, the opposite infact but it's the experiences of misogyny that is driving women to feel unsafe, unheard, like they have no voice. It's not a reflection on all men but on some. Women should decide for themselves alone what their life should look like 💜💜
@Amanda84
Right. And in a patriarchal community the "some" becomes the "most", and it's sad.
@Amanda84
This post threw me. I have only just embraced my femininity over the past 5 years or so, and for me it's a vibe, an aura. I feel feminine even though I don't always wear makeup and I need my nails to be short. And then, on my morning walk, it came to me.
For me, femininity is being a brat.
I'm stubborn, emotional, and subversive. I call people out on their crap. I support my fellow ladies, and would fight tooth and nail for them if need be. I've been called a brat my entire life, and I've finally learned to embraced that. That is my femininity.
That said, I'm also caring, loving, and compassionate. That's my femininity too! Perhaps, in some ways, it's part of my brattiness, too 😜
Of course, much like my masculinity response, I have to point out that some traits that seem inherently masculine don't have to be. I know women who chop their own firewood, fix their own cars, and throw down on a dude just for being a flippin' creep! These are feminine traits if they fit your femininity!
Maybe my opinion isn't much on this subject but I think of good mothers.
There is a quiet but persistent sense of truly caring.
I think of softness and the disarming ability to allow others to be soft themselves , if only for a little while.
And I think of vulnerability. A tendency towards openness that seems altogether dangerous to my brittle heart.
@DaveMarx
I actually like this. Women due tend to have that “soft” you are describing.
I also find it interesting that you mention the vulnerability. As a female, I often am intimidated by men for this reason. Overthinking. Do I do this or that? It’s nice to know that men go through these feelings too ❤️
It means you are good at kitchen :/
@Amanda84 femininity is about nurture and creation for me 😊 It´s about attention to detail, improvement and care.
We as women have an incredible gift of being able to create life. We have a natural tendency to nurture and care for people we care for by feeding them, making sure they have their needs met and have an emotionally safe environment to be themselves.
We take an appartment and make it a home, with all our decorative towels and matching sets of dishcloths we got at the seasonal sale. We are attuned to the emotional world of others and let our softness of heart be our strenght. We allow our men to let their guards down and come home to a place where they can rest and even cry if needed.
Our home may be a mess sometimes (or always, if you are me), but our hearts are full and ready to take in even the 15th stray kitten 😊
This is so sweet. And all the words I didn’t say ❤️
@peachThinker662 thank youuuuu 😊
@sadcat13
Thank you for your response 💜💕

@Amanda84 So there is different things, one is the social construct, what society defined as feminine, this was more clear cut in the 30s 50s 60s . Women wearing a certain type of clothes and being more emotional , men stronger, breadwinner, etc, this is how there was a narrative of what it was expected of men and women, often within society, society itself can do things to force people into one or the other, but more closely linked to your upbringing, so pressure from family which is linked to pressure from society. Though things had changed a lot since the periods i mentioned, regardless of what society or parents want, whenever possible i think is necessary to ignore what others think. Now what i think personally, the idea that women can give birth puts them in a different point perhaps in how connected to life they might be, more nurturing perhaps, though i like to think that both men and women can reach their emotional and intellectual potential , and there is little difference in them, sometimes is what society makes them more than what they could be, in animal kingdom sometimes it could be easier to see, apes, lions observe in them and think what is feminine of a lioness, what is feminine of a lady ape. this is perhaps a place were you can observe what is feminine without all the cultural prefabricated baggage.
@okeyyy
Thank you so much for your contributions 💜
@Amanda84 glad to, yay
@Amanda84
Feminine means to me certain traits that people usually connect with women like being gentle, nurturing, graceful, or stylish
Feminine to me means something for ladies only a lady thing or character trait it is something that selerates us from others not anything to feel bad about
