I’m trying to cook for myself while watching my weight. But all healthy food tastes sad… Please give me some recipes to cook please. Preferably light meals since I have a smaller appetite. THANK YOU 💕💕

@JanusPi

What I can tell you, is that you have to go heavy with herbs, garlic/onion powder, paprika... Elsewise, it will need to go into the trash. Experiment!

You can go the spicy route.  I like chili, extra chili powder and pepper spices

White fish with garlic onions butter.

Baked kale with parmesan

I love spicy food… 🥹 The baked kale with Parmesan sounds good but isn’t cheese high caloric?

I just do a little bit of parm, not like a layer.  You could do salt/pepper too if you want to stay away from parm entirely

I love miso soup as a pick me up! But for filling meals I love using teriyaki sauce, rice, cooked veggies!

I totally forgot about tofu as a choice 😅. I used to add tofu with egg and add those japanese seaweed packaging used for rice and put it with the egg and tofu. I might go for that again~

I make a meal I call Bachelor Chow (a joke from the show Futurama). It's super cheap, super healthy, and I throw in whatever I have in the fridge. It's just ground chicken or turkey, black beans, corn, onions, diced chilies, black olives all seasoned with taco seasoning. I eat it with Greek yogurt and high fiber tortillas. Sometimes I add in quinoa if I have some cooked, and veggies I need to use up. Most of what I use just comes in cans so it's inexpensive and quick. But most meals I eat I focus on getting in my protein and fiber. A really yummy source of fiber is raspberries, and quinoa is a whole protein without having to eat meat if you choose not to. I eat a good amount of fish too!

I think it is! I cook it in chicken broth for flavor and I always add it in places that might call for rice

I remember when I first started to change my habits and at first I thought, wow, can't have this or that and it's so convenient and yummy but I think once you look around, there are so many flavourful meals, that can be better for us.

Or just like others say, add your own pepper or whatever seasonings, you prefer.

I don't have recipes as such, but foodie ideas, like chick peas/channa with onions and garlic, either on it's own or with a salad..

Rye crackers with various toppings, salmon and cheese, egg and cheese, cheese and cheese lol..

Wholemeal/brown bagels with cod or chicken, turkey rashers, or egg and avocado..

You could try vegan sausage rolls with a dip like garlic and herb or hummus or salsa..

Or chicken or veggie sausages, with onions in a brown roll with mustard or ketchup

I like chopped raw veggies, celery, cucumber, olives, carrots, green peppers with a dip like tzatziki or onion and garlic or just lemon juice..

And for something sweet, strawberry or cherry yoghurt, you can get fat free, with crunchy oats granola and you can add fruit, also if you prefer

I’ll try the chickpeas with onion and/or garlic. I think l I’ll just throw a bunch of seasonings until it tastes good. Or put it onto bread might be good. Cheese sounds good but it’s so calorific…😭 I don’t trust myself with cooking meat so I’ll just stick with veggies 🤣.

I’ll actually make the tzatziki thing. I searched what it is and it looks yummy. I’m assuming it can be put into the fridge for later use?

i generally don’t like sweet things so I don’t really crave desserts or anything. I do like a good tiramisu though 🤤

@JanusPi Yea I think you can make a batch of the dips and freeze it. Now you are talking, tiramisu is lovely or a good trifle in this weather.

I have a huge sweet tooth. I love youtube for the varied recipes. Also what about a cheese roll, in pastry with veggies or baked beans.

I'm impatient, I like grabbing stuff and throwing it together.

Dhal, veggy pakoras or a veggy curry might be interesting too, guaranteed herbs and flavours, melt in your mouth :)

something relatively easy and healthy.. mince meat egg sandwich. You’ll need a stove, a pan, spatula and the following ingredients:

mince beef, eggs, herbs of choice, salt and spices of choice, toast bread, cheese (if you like)

start by browning the mince meat on the stove, you don’t need to add any oil here the meat has fat in itself that will come out, when the meat turns color from red to brown add your eggs.

add the salt and spices of choice and cook together, sprinkle grated cheese on top if you like, place your bread over the meat eggs omlette and once the bread holds on, flip it, once the bread is toasted you can close the sandwich together and cut into slices. Bon appetite!

Ooo sounds tasty. I might just go with an egg sandwich without the meat. I don’t trust myself to handle any meat 😅

I see. I've been trying new egg recipes lately. Though they are not spicy!

One would be shakshuka, very tasty with toasts. One tip: add spinach before tomatoes!

Another is creamy scrambled eggs, again, very tasty with toasts.

Then there is egg toasts, easy, healthy and good in taste.

One of my favourites is egg rice. It's very flavourful, you can add spice in it!

Let me know if you want recipe!!

I can not tolerate " HOT spicy." This however, I can tolerate and put on everything. It is more of a flavor without the burn.

Dear Janus

It’s not about healthy recipes, it’s about a healthy life style, you can do the same recipe but with healthy ingredients (butter instead of oil/ simple carbs instead of complex/if you are craving something sweet take fruit) etc..

Divide your meals into three parts (vegetables/ protein/simple carbs)

Put a walking routine

Don’t be hungry, as the body reacts with hunger as a survival mood that it should save food

Don't keep checking your weight on the scale .

Keep water always near you, little sips all over the day will count, and will let you feel ful

hope you get the best healthy look ever you want

P.s ; you can share the recipes you like so we can help you to turn it healthy 😉

I use the Part-skim Mozzarella. It is lower in fat.

User Profile: 6Dreamwish9
6Dreamwish9 August 15th

I always ask My imaginary friend (Ai) 🤭 to turn any recipe I like into a healthy one

So that’s his answer about cheese in mac and cheese:

About the sauce:

Swap some of the cheese for a roux made with milk (whole or low-fat) instead of heavy cream

Use reduced-fat cheese, or just use a sharper cheese (like extra-sharp cheddar) so you need less for the same flavor

Try Greek yogurt stirred in at the end for creaminess with added protein and less fat

It will need a try till you get the taste that you want 😉

Surprisingly, when I went out to look for the healthiest option, Walmart's Low-Moisture Part-Skim  Mozzarella String Cheese was my best find. It only has 1.5 grams of Sat fat and 50 calories. I have one piece every day. Just one.

Question: How do you feel about pickles. Most of them are low carb. You just take off the lid and they are ready. They may help with blood sugar control. There are so many choices: Sweet Pickle, Dill Pickle, Garlicy Pickle, Hungarian Pickles, Hot Pickle, German Pickle, Half-Sour Pickle, Lime Pickle, Japanese Pickle, Indian Pickle, Bread & Butter Pickle, Jalapeno Pickle, Polish Pickle, Gherkin Pickle, Cornichon Pickle, and Spicy Pickle. We won't discuss fried pickle is this post... Okay, that is a lot of pickles. What are your thoughts?
