Course 1, Discussion 5: 7 Cups Culture
Hello Leadership Crew!
I hope you have been benefitting from this course. This is the last discussion of our course 1.
We take culture seriously on 7 Cups because it is the heart of how we operate. A wise person once said: You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are. We can have all of the best training content we want, but if our culture is not strong, then we will not be successful in growing a thriving, compassionate, community that will make a global impact.
Every organization has a culture whether by design or by default. When culture (including values and mission are not called out or made explicit, the organization defaults to an implicit or unstated culture. The unnamed culture is not always great for the end users or the community. An example of a common and implicit cultural rule or norm is that the person that makes the most money or the organization is the most important. People that work in this organization then, naturally, because it is the culture, start organizing themselves around ways to make more and more money. The ones at the top of the hierarchy are the ones that make the most money. 7 Cups cares less about money and more about compassion. We call out compassion and celebrate compassionate people because that is central to the work we do.
Please read our guide here to deeply understand our culture. We have made it explicit because we believe it is important to help us all be accountable to what we stand for and believe in. As leaders on 7 Cups, you will be models that emulate our culture and values.

The 3 most important things I learned from the guide are:
1. Self-awareness is the foundation of growth
Understanding my thoughts and emotions helps me recognize my mistakes and improve myself.
2. Consistency matters more than perfection
Small, regular efforts are more important than trying to be perfect every time.
3. The importance of positive communication
The way I communicate affects my relationships and my confidence.

Your Work Matters: It makes me happy to know we make such a difference and bring light into dark lives. I feel more motivated to go out and help more members and give them companionship.
Caring for People with Fewer Financial Resources: This also warms my heart because I know how expensive therapists are and how many teens need their parents help to go to a therapist and cant do that. So the fact that we do that here, targeting those sections of people specifically warms my heart and makes me very happy.
Trust: I can see the culture of friendliness here where everyone treats each other with love and care. I used to be taken aback by how much love is there in this community, and now it makes me more eager to come back to 7Cups. The culture of trust and belonging is very strong here.
@gentlemelon85
Hey melon !! 😊
I really like how you highlighted the impact of the work we do. It’s true knowing we can bring even a little light into someone’s life is such a strong motivation :) I also agree with ur point abt accessibility. Not everyone has the resources for therapy, so what we offer here really matters.
And yes, the sense of trust n kindness in this community stands out. It’s something that makes people feel safe n valued, n it definitely makes me want to stay involved too <3 😊

@Hope
Aww <3 I really enjoyed reading this, it gave me a lot of meaningful insights and helped me understand things on a deeper level 😊

The 3 things that stood out to me in overall guide is (I've got lot of 'em to point out 😅 but yeah :) )
- Compassion <3
- high expectations and high warmth.
- taking care of yourself.
←____COMPASSION ____→
One of the most important things I learned from the guide is the emphasis on COMPASSION as the core of everything ❤️. 7 Cups focuses more on genuinely helping ppls rather than numbers or outcomes, n this is important to me b'cos it creates a safe n meaningful space where ppls feel understood n supported :) Here is where we break down discrimination 😊
←____High Exception And Warmth____→
Another key point I learned is the balance between High Exception And High Warmth 😊. It showed me that it’s not enough to just be kind, we also need to be responsible n accountable in our roles. At the same time, growth happens best in a supportive n encouraging environment :) This is important to me b'cos it helps me understand how to improve while still being compassionate towards others n myself. ^-^
←___Taking Care Of Yourself___→
The third thing that stood out to me is the importance of Taking Care Of yourself. The guide made it clear that we cannot support others if we are already exhausted or burnt out. This is especially meaningful to me because I’ve realized that I sometimes push myself too much without taking proper breaks )': It reminded me that self-care is not optional, but necessary for long-term consistency 😊!!
Overall, this helped me understand that being part of this community is not just abt helping others, but also abt growing, staying balanced, n contributing to a positive n supportive culture <3 😊
@AiluraTheCat So glad to have you as a part of the community! Keep those qualities close to your heart! 💞
@Angelanj

3 most important things you learned from the guide and why they are important to me:
- Have Fun and Be Fulfilled - Helps us to not to feel so overwhelmed and see the bigger picture in volunteering.
- Take Care of Yourself - Helps us to recognise that we cannot pour from an empty cup.
- Collaborate - Teaches us the power and importance of teamwork.
@Angelanj
It has a lot to look forward to, and your reflection appears to be well-considered. Thank you so much <3.
I appreciate you being here and taking the next step. You're doing fantastic. Well done! 🤗

1. Your work matters - I have only used the web version of this platform, and to think that individuals leave reviews on play store mentioning that being on 7 cups keeps them from taking their lives and rest, brought a smile to face instantly. Adding one more reason to my why!
2. High Expectation & High Warmth - Loved the clear differences between these areas and the fact that 7 Cups have both high expectation and high warmth💛
3. Take care of yourself - The main thing that caught my attention the most throughout this whole course is the fact that 7 cups cares so much about user's well being, and have support rooms, burnout preventing path, self care template and rest. When, I start to do something, I tend to get lost in it. I don't stop until I finish the work that I am doing. But now I am reminded how important breaks are and I sure will be prioritizing it from now on, for my own good.
Thank you @Hope and the 7 Cups community for tailoring such a wonderful course~💛
Wishing more growth, peace and warmth to the wonderful human being reading this~🍀🎐
@yoursmileisasradientastheSun i agree completely

2) Trust- the most beautiful beautiful feeling to have and to reciprocate
3) collaboration- im a peoples person, i love having to get and give support from people around

The guide is really insightful and gives a reality check. 3 things i have learned/are most important to me are:
- Its okay to be not okay, Its okay and acceptable if you no longer serve a place you used to, evolving with environment can lead to positive changes or betterment in your life.
- Trust is the key to any relation, healing, and helps us understand each other.
- Avoiding making excuses, as being clear, self aware and accepting mistakes can lead to efficiency and better performance in future along with accountability.
@Smilingsoul11
I love your insights!

i learnt that leadership is not controlling its understanding
there is need to work with consistency have better understanding for things
and always there is some vacant place to learn something new in every topic

High expectation and high warmth: this is something that a lot of communities miss out on, having both is the part that drives this community forward if you lack one you won't be the best.
We expect failure: so this is another thing that we don't acknowledge that failure is a part of this journey and how I see it is in a number system the even numbers are success and odds are failure, so when you don't acknowledge the failure you miss out on half or sometimes more than half the experience of things.
Accountability: Accountability becomes really important in a community since we are all relying on others it gets easy to slack off, to start depending on other's work and that's when accountability comes into play.
@Hope thanks for sharing <3
The three things that stood out to me were:
- Trust: I think trust is the foundation of everything we do on 7 Cups. Without it, members are less likely to feel safe opening up.
- High expectations and high warmth: I liked that 7 Cups encourages both accountability and compassion. I think people grow best when they feel supported as well as challenged.
- Taking care of yourself: This really tied in with the burnout prevention path. Looking after our own wellbeing helps us continue supporting others without burning out.
