That 1% You Remember!!
That 1% You Remember!!
So, let's begin some recalling!!
Most of us are readers. Either we read books, comics, or the contents on the Internet and oh yes!! some also read those billboards on your way to some places.
So, we read a lot of stuff in an entire day but most of us could remember only 1% of it.
Okay, I admit sometimes more than 1% too. But in today's activity, I want to recall the 1%.
Recall something you read that you liked and share with us here. That's it.
I like this exercise as it allows me to walk down the memory lane and recall what I read and loved. It is fun.
Share and read what others shared!!
I'll start off -- I am reading a book "Educated" and I remember a passage where Tara stated how her mother got Tara's delayed birth certificate even before Luke.
Your turn!!

I read that the great psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung, used to say that after social events he had to spend a very long time in solitude, recovering.
That made me smile, tbh. Apparently he thought he was the same personality type as I am, INFJ, and I go along with what he said 100%.
@DavidEss
Hi David, The Meyer-Briggs test gives me the outcome as ISFJ - speaking of memory, I just remembered that wrong LOL (shakes head at self, for I thought my result was INFJ also). Okay well, the part Jung said about after social event to have solitude to recover, or something like that? That part is rather like how we'll say, after going away somewhere for a vacation, "Gee I think I need a vacation from my vacation!"
As a psychology student, you naming Jung with his middle name (Gustav?) was just a bit funny to me :) I'm not sure if I'd ever heard/read his entire name. Books and articles and such most usually mention him only as Carl Jung or even C.Jung. That's all, interesting to Platy.
This is me with a headache and getting later at night ... plus I thought mine was INFJ and then I checked that 'fact' quickly and it is not ... so my reason for writing this post very quickly got cut at least in half, if not more like down to 35-40%. Ah well.
Happy Valentine's Day (almost)! ~ Platy
@cyanPlatypus6370
Happy Valentine's Day to you too! ♥
A protector type! Very handy to have around. Much more observant and concrete than my type, although they have a lot in common. I do call him C G Jung, to distinguish him from all the other C Jungs I've heard of (zero).
@DavidEss
Thank you for sharing this! I can very much relate to this as well as I think most of us introverts can. :) :)
Love this idea for a thread - I wasn't named but I came across it and thought I'd share my little 1%.
I often have phrases from books I've read that stick in my head because I think they are interesting/true or just a good piece of writing. Here are a couple that I can remember.
"The value of a play is in it's silences... The silences are when the actors get to act." Named of the Dragon, Susanna Kearsley - A statement which I wholeheartedly agree with and always watch actors during the little moments of silence in a play and even in movies to see their true talent come through.
"When he smiled, crinkled formed at the sides of his eyes. Maybe they made him look a little older, but I was charmed - here was a boy whose happiness had already left its mark on his face." The Start of Me and You, Emery Lord - I just thought that was such a beautiful expression, and every time I see someone with crinkles in the corners of their eyes it makes me think of this.
Just my 1%
@lonelylinguaphile wow that is cool lonely. And we are glad to read your thoughts. Please feel free to comment, discuss and share your ideas with us.
@ASilentObserver
Thanks :)
@lonelylinguaphile - awh gee, I can't 'upvote' this 3 or 4 times???
Your very first sentence? Yes I think this is a grand idea too!
Your username - I do know the definition :) before finding a dictionary somewhere :P
About the smiling eyes and young age - do you know if Peter or someone else in the story is described in a similar sort of way? Peter Pan, author Barry (I think). This sentence feels familiar to me but I'm unsure why; Hmm....
(A word opposite of 'lonely'), Happy Valentine's Day! I do hope you'll have a great Thursday, 14th, and do come back here and write your 1% again, k? :) Platy
@cyanPlatypus6370
Thank you! It's nice to know my words are appreciated. I'm a writer - well, I write all the time. Whether or not I'll ever publish anything anyone would read is another question. But words, stories, plots - they fascinate me. Anything and everything can happen in a book. It's an endless world of possibility. So hearing that someone else appreciates words and stories and lines is always a (rare) pleasure.
I'm not sure if James Barry uses a similar phrase in Peter Pan - I haven't read that book in years. But I wouldn't be surprised - it would certainly fit in with that story and with Barry's style of writing.
I don't actually celebrate Valentine's Day, but thank you anyway. Hope you have a nice day :) It's funny - I've been trying to think of an antonym for 'lonely' and the closest I can think of is 'Befriended' - there really should be an opposite word. But in this case, befriended works
I will come back and write more - I always have random phrases in my mind, either ones that I make up for my books or ones that I fall in love with from other people's creations. Did you share your 1%? I'll have to explore this thread more and find it if you did. If not, will you share it with me? I'm curious to know! :)
Thanks, Platy!

@ASilentObserver
Good exercise.
I read an article by a freelance writer about how difficult it is for her travel because she has an "invisible illness". She struggles with Fibromyalgia and has to travel to make her living... but so many people judge her because they can't SEE what her illness is and why she has to use a wheelchair to board the plane but then can "miraculously" stands or walks, or understand how much she hurts and that's why she wiggles in her seat every 15 minutes, or how exhausting it is to try to cover the distance between TSA and the gate -- all because "she looks normal".
Just one thing that sticks with me from today... :)
@ASilentObserver thanks for this awesome check in! TBH lately I am so busy idk if I am 100% mindful or even 1% at times. Work is hard but will slow down next week, tearing up my house and remodeling a few things, carpet cleaning boxes of junk out and so on. 1 kiddo in hospital....then ME time
I guess one thing I remember reading that woke me up was..............

I remember reading:
100
80
Exit
McDrive
The last thing I remember is drooling at the menu board 😮
@kindSoul10 lmao
Ha see how it is so important to be some what mindful lol. Did you get me a large coffee with sugar and cream at least

Thank you for being here today and gave me a smile as some mornings all I know is a cold car and coffee in my hand driving to work.
@RumpleSteeleSkin ☕
Hi! I have a problem with remembering what I have read. I had to take years of special ed in school and I still have reading comprehension problems. But I like reading though. It plays in my mind like a movie when I'm reading, but it disappears after it is over. 1% covered 😄
@FaithfulPrune9638 good you are here. Sometimes some may have a learning issue or something else that prevents this. BUT I feel you are mindful cause of how you feel when you read a book or something. I too do that if I am reading a great book!
I'm reading a book called 'The Speaker' by Traci Chee. It is the second book in a series, the first is called 'The Reader'. Its a fantasy fiction about a world where nobody reads- or almost nobody. This girl gets her hands on a book, a magic book filled with seemingly infinite knowledge. She learns to read, while avoiding danger. As you can imagine there are people who want this book, and she meets some interesting people along the way. I don't want to put any spoilers, but it is a good read thus far. I recommend it
I've been reading works by Rumi this week and this poem has stuck with me:
I said: what about my eyes?
He said: Keep them on the road.
I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.
I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it?
I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.
@MissPen
Pen this is very beautiful, thanks for sharing it.
