One Line a Day Journal Feature!
We will be releasing and testing a new feature that we are calling the One Line a Day Journal. This will sit right above the Learn/Explore/Grow tool on the member dashboard and right above the stats module on the listener dashboard.
This was inspired by the one second a day video app. My daughters have been using this for years. They record a 1 second video every day. The app then links all the 1 second videos together. 60 days is a minute for example. It is fun and they enjoy it. We have already tried the idea of combining this idea with journaling in the community through our One Line A Day Challenge launched in 2023, which gained good feedback from everyone involved, which also inspired the idea of making the reflection experience easier for everyone through a dedicated feature.
Our One Line a Day Journal is similar. It is an easy ask - just one line a day to help you reflect and grow. You can zoom out over time and see all of your entries to learn more about yourself. A daily check-in helps you process emotions, recognize patterns, and stay present. Looking back at past entries can inspire you to keep going, even on difficult days. Additionally, there is a little box that you can tick to make the entry public. If you make it public, then other people can heart your journal entry to show support. They cannot comment. They can only heart it.
We think this will help people heal and grow in a fun way that is also social.
Other quick points:
1. Only half of you will see this tool to start. We need to test it like this to see how it works and to fix any bugs that surface.
2. You can write more than a line a day if you like.
3. The entries will be moderated to keep safety in mind as we want this feature to be a safe space for support.
Please note that this One Line a Day Journal feature does not replace the private journal feature currently present on the site but is an additional way to check-in and reflect in the context of community support.
Here is how the One Line a Day Journal feature looks like on the dashboard(s):

Toggling “Read Community Reflections” gives you a look at community submissions to support:

On the other hand, toggling the green history icon on the top right can be used to see your own entries:

@GlenM
Thank you, Glen, for yet another great feature on Cups
I really like the idea of one line a day. Journalling can feel like a lot of work, this breaks it down. It also does a very good job of including the two-minute rule (where you do a task for 2 minutes daily to make a habit of it). Great way of instilling the habit of journalling!
@GlenM
The video recording idea is amazing, and I'm glad your daughters helped you with this one too, for our community!
Journaling is a great practice, and can be really therapeutic. I've had my moments where even sitting down to journal sometimes felt like a "task" and "too much to ask from myself" lol, despite how positively impactful it turns out later. Soooo, this idea of one line journaling is so so appreciated, it often just takes us to "start"~ to take the "first" step that often seems like the hardest and usually is too, exactly here, it's about writing that first word and then letting your mind be free. 🥰
Letting the thoughts flow hehe!
While the idea is great and I really wanted to try this, upon trying to share my entry with the community/ making it public, I got the prompt for verifying my phone number? Is this mandatory?
To an extent, I understand the measures being taken for extra safety for all of us here, but linking phone numbers is something I'm certainly not comfortable with.
So alas, my entries won't be public for all, which is sad oof, but I'm sending my best to everyone trying out this awesome feature! 💛
My first entry was going to be- "Ooooh wow this is finally here, looks amazing and I'm proud of everyone for sharing how you feel. Sending love and kind thoughts everyone's way. Happy journaling! 🤗💖" (Lol more than a line, but yes🥰)
@GlenM
I always use the mobile 📱 web site of Cups and I saw the 'One Line Entry' ٩( ᐖ )۶
I have written something on it as a reminder to myself (。╹▿╹。)

Great, looking forward to this new feature.
Why do we have to enter a phone number to share with community? I don't want to do that. 😞
@GlenM
Love this new feature! It's minimal and inspiring 🩵
I'm dumb. I can't even find the journal. Where do I find these 2 options?
@PandaJes sorry not dumb at all! Not everyone has it yet as we are still testing.
😢 I hope app get it soon
@GlenM
just seen this and actually thought what a great idea reading the vast majority of your posts.
Towards the end the impression that the red and green gives is that they are not private?
A secure and personal place to just say what’s currently troubling you to document how emotions change, hurt lessons and hopefully identifying trends and very least how it’s not always terrible even through a sustained period of such. Having highs acknowledged that may be lost in the grass, this could enable that.
keeping it simple, easy and quick. Brilliant.
is it private though? That’s highly off putting if so
@LabeledBPD
the requirements for mods to oversee my own submissions appears that yes it’s shared with a wider audience.
Unless wrong and even just making your only personal quick reflection to learn from needs mods overseeing it.
hmmm this seemed like a great idea at first glance and has the potential. You either give people the space and freedom to grow using such software responsible for themselves in private or it’s kinda bit flawed, great concept though.
I’m opting out …
nobody needs to know my daily journal other than me. That’s like diary that everyone has the key to
@LabeledBPD hey there! If you do not check the box titled “make public” then it is private. If you check the box “make public” then mods have access and can remove if inappropriate. For example, I can put up a link to an advertisement in my private journal no problem. However if I make that public then it will be removed bc the daily journal is not designed for advertising. Hope this helps!
@GlenM
thank you for confirming.
Risk free, why not give it a try, (advertisement reference).
I like the idea and think it’s great so will try it, definitely a intriguing new concept that could hold helpful qualities.
you have people uploading advertisements (assuming based on example). Nowhere is sacred and I shudder to think further as market to audiences for maximum success or mindless spamming.
Overthinking. Thanks for replying.
Look forward to trying it out in a private manner for now.
