Wounded Healer: Kayla's Story
Hello everyone!
Kayla has been a listener on 7 Cups for over 10 years. She is a shining example of what it means to be a wounded healer. I'm a wounded healer and many of you are as well.
Here is the definition: A wounded healer is someone who has experienced significant pain or trauma in their own life, but uses that experience to help others who are also suffering. The idea is that their personal struggles give them a deeper understanding and empathy for those they serve.
My son met Kayla and did the interview and created the video. I hope you find it meaningful. I would love to hear your thoughts and reactions.

I have always seen Kayla as a role model mostly from her powerful forum threads, in which she distills her life experience with the purpose to support others in such a genuine, honest way, with great passion and love in her mission, and also very creative, articulate and poetic that you can’t but be greatly moved and inspired by her amazing personality and work.
She puts all her great talents, her genuine and wonderful self, and the time and effort required to write such moving pieces, to the service of making better the lives of those struggling. And she succeeds big in this.
After watching this video, getting to know her better through her own characteristic honesty, warmth and openness, and hearing the testimonials of two members she supported with such an impact that we can say in all truth that she saved their lives, my admiration for Kayla has grown vast.
I find the expression of “wounded healers” that Kayla embodies to such a high degree, a perfect definition of what being part of the 7 Cups community is all about.
The video is very moving and impactful, it clearly shows what 7 Cups is about at its core, and conveys a heartfelt invitation to join our community, offering unconditional support, and also asking to volunteer for supporting others, telling people that they too can become wounded healers, that they too can make the miracle of transmuting lead into gold and add great value and meaning to their lives. A very empowering message.
As Glen implies at some point, there is a crisis of values and lack of meaning in many lives in this world. This invitation to do meaningful work that Kayla is the archetype of, is as generous as the offer for support. Something precious that 7 Cups gives to anyone who joins.
I hope that many many people watch this video, get its powerful messages, and join 7 Cups as a result. The need for emotional support in our world is vast, and so is the need for many more wounded healers to join the 7 Cups community in its sacred work.

I read your whole post as highlighting that core transmuting process. You could read Kayla's words and get a sense of her journey; and then the video helps you see the change in her fibers...in her being.
And that happens with all of us here. We are all transformed step by step. One healing chat after another. An unexpected message from someone looking out for you. A shout out. A mention in the forum. All little changes that cascade into big changes. We were once a person lost and confused and in deep pain. Over time, all of that is redeemed, and we've been transmuted or changed into a wounded healer. Someone who has been there and done that, has experiential knowledge, and all of that wisdom is in our fibers now and allows us to help others.
You come down from those highs where you manage 7 Cups and make this amazing community possible, working, safe, and effective for us all and for all the people worldwide who seek support here every day.

It's so wonderful to hear the story behind some of the beautiful souls in this community. I know anonymity is a big part of what makes 7 cups works, but peeking behind the curtains every now and then allows us to more deeply appreciate the life-changing work that is happening here.

Son, you did a great job! I see film-making in your future! I liked that you chose a natural spot to record Kayla. I’m a little jealous of you that you have a “cool” dad, but it’s ok, my dad was cool in his inimitably old-fashioned way. Keep on following your dream, Son.
