March 22: Follow up information on Navigation updates!

Hello everyone!

In this post, I outlined our plans for navigation updates. We've been working on these updates over the past few days and will launch them tomorrow morning. Below you will find further details on what to expect. Changing the navigation may throw you off a little bit. It's like we are rearranging some of the furniture in the house. Please take a little extra time to get used to the feature.

As a reminder, the purpose of the update:

------> Update the main sub-community landing page to be more relevant for each individual

------> Make it easier for new users to find sub-communities and connect with them

------> Create a central hub for you to find important community information like: alerts, 7 Cups feed posts, recent blog posts, Group support events...etc and more!

Here is what you can expect:

The top navigation bar will look like this:

The community button will no longer be a drop down (ignore the arrow you see there presently). When you click this top community bar, you will be brought to this page:

Items to keep in mind on this main community page:

------> The following community & site features will be housed on this page: blog, community calendar, information on reputation, internships, community guidelines and about us! These items will be located on the bottom right hand side and look like this:

------> There are two direct linking buttons to the forum (one circled in pink) and the other is listed on left bar direct below the last sub-community

------> Alerts will be located directly above the calendar on the right side

------> On the left side, you will see a list of the communities you subscribe to. Below my subscribed communities, will be a list of other communities you can join!

------> Chatrooms are located in the middle! The rooms listed will be only those associated with the sub-communities you are subcribe to!

Additionally, we've moved the direct link to the feed & support buttons! They are now located in the drop down under your picture icon on the right side of the page.

The community page changed sometime today. There is no differentiation between the subcommunities I have subscribed to and the ones I have not.

@AffyAvo

I noticed this, it is frustrating.

I dont like this community page. I want it back to how it WAS.

@BurningEmber

Right now I don't really care about the community page - although I do certainly think it needs work. I just want all of the previous navigation links back!

I do also feel like the Q&A section is going back to something no one seems to know about. When it was accessible from the top bar more people seemed to at least know what I was referring to if I ever mentioned it. Before that almost anyone I talked to seemed to think I was referring to the forums.

@AffyAvo

Yeah I feel you. I want the navigation links back. Honestly removing it seems like a step backwards.

The community calendar link from the 'Join a group discussion' button on the group chat page now just goes to the community page. I don't like this as the calendar is slow to load and isn't immediately apparent on the community page.

Also the calendar is messed up. There are multiple entries that show them being days long - so apparently there is an event ongoing from Wednesday to April 11 and another that is 25 hours long - not true. I can't even see any on the community page that are actually today in my timezone - everything either ended yesterday or is one of the wrong entries.

@Laura @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn I have one suggestion, regarding the schedule. The schedule currently allows listeners to block out an hour for listeners. Could this schedule be changed whereby you can actually book in member chats, or mentee chats, actually being able to write in the persons username, but also to have instead of 1 hour slots to be able to have it so if you have a chat booked for say 3.30pm-4.30pm that the schedule allows you to put this, as there is no way currently of ammending the time slots? Hope this makes sense. I think whilst it can be helpful to book in listening slots for those of us with lots of regular members and mentees etc etc it would be good to make more use of this schedule by having a kind of diary system where we can enter our slots we have booked and with whom etc even entering when we are holding a discussion etc as reminders to ourselves and so if a member contacts us we can see what availability we have left?

Personally I just wanna talk to someone and it's taking a long time to get anyone to talk too. What's going on? It's not usually like this.

@Nikiluvsclouds01 One of the ways to view it is gone, at least for now. On the Community Page the Calendar is on the right hand side, below the announcements. It previews 4 events for the day. Click on the heading, and it will bring up the full page.

When the tocify calendar opens you can switch it from Pinboard (which I find a bit difficult to use) to Agenda or Monthly.

@Laura @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn @Anomalia

Just feeding back on the new changes and the effects on the spamming. There is spam being left for hours and I think the new changes to the navigation are making harder for people to deal with the spam quicker than it was being dealt with. I have already deleted 15+ spam posts some of which have been left for over 3hrs.

Yes, and the direct link to the forums at the bottom of the page has now gone, too, replaced by a slightly failed attempt to comment out some of the links there.

And the Community page, which I always thought was poorly designed, now has an overlay apparently confirming that it was poorly designed in the first place and people can't understand it without an overlay.

I wish we had a design intended to enlighten and empower.

@dancingRainbow45 I used to delete at least 10 spam posts as they came up. I find I'm doing that way less often because of the bright (insert word of choice) orange therapy button.

@AffyAvo Its good you have experienced that. However, I am finding the opposite and also spammers are getting clever in making it look like a post is a genuine post, until you click on it and realise that further down the post, its full of links to all kinds of sites selling anything from spells, to creams and so on

@dancingRainbow45 I think you're misunderstanding. I'm not reading the forums as much, so I'm not there to delete spam because the therapy button causes me pain.

@dancingRainbow45 It's not just me either. I think 1/2 of the members with forum editing capabilities have spoken out about this affecting our ability to use the site. So that's half of us who won't delete the spam posts that we used to catch. I'm not sure if the others are just as active before or if they just haven't spoken about how it affects them.

Oh gosh yes the orange button is keeping me from being on my member account any more time than I have to be! It is too frustrating and hurts my eyes.

And I want to also point out that I HATE the new community page. I want the forum to exist in its own tab just ike CHat like I think was mentioned by you :) The way everything has changed is just too confusing. it is not great for usability! just no!
