March 7: Age Categories!
Hello all!
I am excited to make this announcement! You all have been asking for MANY months... for better age identifiers!
We are excited to announce that by the end of this week, this will become a reality.
The age categories will be:
- Teen (under 18)
- 18 - 35
- Above 35
The updates you can expect:
1) A group support chat room for 35+ community members
2) On browse listeners the ability to search by age. You will be able to search for a listener by one of the age categories listed above. You will be listed within a specific category depending on the DOB you entered on 7 Cups when you signed up!
This is a suggestion box success! Big thank you to everyone who has left a suggestion! Keep them coming! We are excited about this!

If you are a listener, and you would like to not be included in the age categories, please just fill out this form to opt out.
Those who submit, will have their ages nulled and not be part of the age sorting update. We hope to accomodate everyone by providing this option.

Hi everybody! I spent quite a while in the chat room last night, and the vibe was GREAT! There were a bunch of folks coming in to explore the new digs (ah! that new car smell!) and at times the chat was flying so fast it became hard for everyone to keep up. There was a charming sense of humor among all, especially in cracking wise with the old fart jokes. A few mods came in and out to check out the happenings (especially around the 3 times I was present when some stinky little "troll" n'erdowells decided to take a swipe at the room) and were very supportive.
There was a definite age mix of particants. It was sweet, actually. Someone would come in and say something like, "Is it okay if I stay here? I'm only 24 but the other rooms are dead tonight." Or "I'm 30. Can I be here anyway or do I have to go?" And of course, the room invites anyone behaving in a positive manner to stay and join in the fun. At points, there were requests for advice from the "sage seniors" of the room, and we had fun with a few rounds of internet cocktails. There was 1 person in crisis that got a lot of support early on while hunting for a self-harm savvy Listener, but the group already in the chat at that time did an AMAZING job at keeping him/her stable and present while a well-versed and very capable Listener was located to share a 1-1 with the Member who needed her.
The few snide little troublemakers that tried to throw their monkey wrenches into the works must have been quite disappointed. Pretty much everyone kept their cool, muted/reported when absolutely necessary, and took the wind out of their sails. It was great to see each participant coming together the way it seemed to be working last night.
I hold out great hopes for this room as part of the larger 7 Cups community, if last night was any indication of how it might continue to shape up. I urge everyone to have a go at participating in the room. Bring a daquiri blender, a box of Depends, and a terrific sense of humor! I hope to see some of you there.
@ladylazarus1971 - I'm so glad to hear that the room is off to a good start and is providing a supportive and welcoming place for those who joined in! I'm still a bit young to fit the age range, but I may pop in if I ever need some advice from someone who's been there before! :)
@Anomalia Pop in whenever, for whatever reason! It would be great to see you there, especially considering how instrumental you've been in making the room a reality. Or, as @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn explains it, being a wonderful pesterer!!!

Depends? Seriously? Lol! I certainly hope I'm a few years from that! (Although when I laugh really hard...., hmmm) LOL!
Like this idea. Much welcome. Members often want to tailor their experience to an age group that suits them. It can be difficult for a younger person to relate to an older person's problems and vice versa. I do wonder if we can get better at keyword searches or tags so that people can seek listeners who have expertise in a particular problem. I.e. It's not always age that people are seeking but experience in a particular thing, such as marriage, divorce or parenting, for example.
I feel so weird, sometimes i only want someone to talk with ,someone who can hear my problems and can talk about them
@independentOak910 - that sounds like most people!
@independentOak910 I can understand that feeling. Many people want to tell their story to be heard. Hope you find someone here at 7cups when you have that need. You can always message me and next time I am online I can continue the conversation.

- if you just want to ask for an exception to change or disguise your country, please open a support ticket (button at the bottom of the Feedback & Support page) and choose Account Questions as your Request Type.
