Forum Search Upgrade!
Exciting news! We just launched a new forum search tool update. it is a lot faster now and the results are better displayed. Here is an example of searching my own threads by keyword (and getting great results!).

We have some more tuning coming, but this upgrade should make it much easier to traverse the forum for relevant content. Try it out!
This was much much needed! Is the search function on the app as well?
@LovingPeacefulHeart
Not at the moment but hopefully it will be on a future app update!
Awesome
Will we get the ability to see all of our threads and subscribed threads again? It used to be if the search blank and checked off one (or both) of the boxes we got a list, not anymore.
A sorting option would also be ideal ie. most recent. I can't really figure out the basis on what shows up first now.
A very long time ago we could search within one forum category, (this was before subcommunities were introduced). Would love to see the ability to search within 1 community soon!
I do like that it's faster but I find using it is slower right now when I tried finding a few thread just to test it out as I don't really know where to expect to see the thread I was seeking.
@Heather225 Update.
Just tried out the new search product, very fast.
No problems, using it what so ever.
Just wanted to let you and your team know this.
@Heather225
Thankyou for the update, H. I'm happy to see many people happy with this news!❤
A question though. XD
When we searched for the forums via the My forum Threads (under settings) the same 'search tools' came up, being able to tick off "my threads" (own threads of the user) and "subscribed threads" (other users' threads we've subscribed) and use a keyword to search any, this looks the same still, just that the tool is more "visible" community-wide, as it is now linked with the usual forum search also?
Or did I miss anything here? 👀
Also what Affy said, it was nice to have all the "subscribed" threads or all the "my theads" at a glance, when either was ticked and no keyword was being used. 😮
Sounds a valuable update! There's another feature I am really hoping to see some day: How nice and beautiful it'd be if we could have all threads by @username (a particular username), for example if I want to see all forum threads made by @sunisshiningandsoareyou (that would be at least thousand threads I know, since sun makes so many😀) But the feature would be so cool and would help a lot for community members to get to know one another so much more!
@Fristo
Hahaha Fristo lol xD I didn't imagine being called out like that! 😁
I agree it would be a cool feature someday, to be able to have more specific search options for the forums.
I hope I understood this one right, even so, @RarelyCharlie has something similar to what you're referring to, I guess, Listener Information, where threads can be searched with the 'Author' name also, I'm unsure how updated it is, or "what" all threads are included in this search/ the criteria for it, because when I search mine it shows 11 threads in the Listener only option and 5 when I select the "archive" thingy too, however when I look for the thread, it isn't located in the archives of the particular sub community ~ and yes yes, I've definitely made more than that haha! 👀
Replies to threads cannot be searched via this one either, but yassss, if someday it was possible to search for replies also, I think I'll fall off my chair lol. 😮 (this I believe is going too far xD)
This is an unofficial search tool as mentioned. But I agreeee, it would be awesome to have something similar incorporated in the site's official forum search bar also!
Looking forward to the day it happens. 🥰
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou Yes, I made an index from Site Updates, Listener Learning & Journey, Safety & Knowledge at 7 Cups, Community Projects & Events and Quality Listening Program. In use it's very fast because I don't load the entire 13 MB index all at once, just whatever is needed for the current search. On a good connection it's so fast you barely see it loading. I included the thread author because 7 Cups' standard database query provides the author's screen name and profile image, in addition to the text of the lead post. I can't really understand why anyone would make an index that doesn't include the thread author.
Updating an index is costly, both for me and for 7 Cups. For me it's time consuming, and for 7 Cups it ties up resources. One solution is only to update the index occasionally. This is why I haven't updated mine since August. 7 Cups seems to update its index pretty fast, maybe every time a thread is created or edited.
Indexing replies would need a different database query and the resulting index would be much bigger. But forum use has been changing. Fewer threads are being created, but more replies are being posted. This means it's becoming more and more important to index replies.
I'm disappointed that the My Forum Threads menu item has been broken. I used that a lot, and now it looks like I'll have to write code to replace that functionality in some way.

@Fristo This was asked for at the last Forum restructuring meeting, Nov 16 2022, so fingers crossed it will happen soon.
Listening - One Step At A Time!
@Heather225
That's definitely a great feature, H! 😃 It is very helpful to be able to search using any words of any topic that we are interested in.
That's great
Thanks
@Heather225
@Heather225 that's fantastic, thank you so much!
@Heather225 Thanks for this update.
Thanks for letting us know this.
