The Gratitude Project: List 3 Things That You Are Grateful For...
by LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS
Last post

...See more Hi there, Today we will learn a little more about gratitude and learn how to express this. Studies have shown that if you practice daily gratitude practice, it can make you feel happier and improve your health. What is Gratitude? Gratitude is the expression of appreciation for what one already has and not ones future desires or hopes. It is generated from within. This social emotion strengthens relationships, and its roots run deep in evolutionary history, and it stems from the survival value of helping others and being helped in return. Studies show that specific areas of the brain are involved in experiencing and expressing gratitude. Brain scans of people assigned a task that stimulates gratitude show lasting changes in the prefrontal cortex that heighten sensitivity to future experiences of gratitude, thus feeling happier and healthier. Please list 3 things that you are grateful for and share daily if you feel comfortable to do so!

...See more Hi everyone! Welcome to an AMA (ask me anything) in the "The Therapist's Office" with Ashley Flewellan, therapist of 7 Cups online therapy program. To learn more about them check out their profile page.  [https://www.7cups.com/local/us/nj/freehold/therapists/ashley-flewellen-lpc-71627950893] Sorry the AMA is now closed to new questions but feel free to read the questions by other members and Ashley's answers. Ashley's replies to your questions will follow starting on Monday the 24th of March 2025. Get your questions in before 7PM EDT Friday 3-28. To subscribe, so you can follow this thread and the therapist's answers, hit the subscribe button in the lower left of this post to get alerts when new posts are made to this thread. We welcome your questions, but what type of questions should I ask? We welcome any questions that are related to mental health experiences and challenges. You may also want to ask questions about therapy and coping skills for particular challenges you face. Please avoid asking the therapist for specific advice like "should I date this guy after meeting him online?" You may ask the therapist for coping options with the particular mental health challenges you face and they can share suggestions that you may want to consider, but this is not an advice column. It is more like a place to learn about how online therapy at 7 Cups could help you deal with life and the many challenges it presents. If you have any customer service-related questions please email support@7cups.com as they cannot be answered in this thread. Finally, please avoid questions about medication as these are best suited to be answered by your physician, and anything not normally discussed in 7 Cups forums. If you have a question about this thread, please feel free to PM either one of us https://www.7cups.com/@amiablePeace77 or https://www.7cups.com/@soulsings I am subscribed to this thread and eager to hear your questions and the therapist's answers. More on Ashley Flewellan can be found here at their profile page. It’s not normal to talk about your parent with another parent right?

...See more Hello, I needed some clarification on something. I noticed that unfortunately my mother communicates all her ideas to me about my father but never directly talks to him about it because she’s afraid he’ll get upset. I’m not crazy in thinking that your supposed to talk to your partner right? Actually communicate with them right? I know it’s unhealthy but I need someone to verify that I’m not crazy and that isn’t healthy

I need advice

...See more Good afternoon, This is my first time using this, so I don’t fully understand how it works. I’ve been struggling with severe depression for a long time, and I’ve reached a point where I can’t see any light at the end, no way out. I spend nights awake, unable to sleep, I’ve had issues with food, and in general, with socializing. Recently, I decided to try opening up to my friends as a last resort. I told them about my situation, opened up to them, and shared how my mind was at that moment. To summarize, they decided that all I was doing was seeking attention, that I shouldn’t burden them with it, and that I should seek help elsewhere, without asking anything from them. This is the first time I’ve opened up like this to anyone, and all I wanted was for them to understand me, nothing more. I didn’t ask them to help me or accompany me in the process, just to listen. Since that moment, I’ve let my mind consume me, as it has for a long time, but this time without resisting. I’ve let my mind label me with things that aren’t true, like “seeking attention” or “my problems aren’t important enough.” Yesterday, while staring at the ceiling without thinking about anything, I decided I couldn’t accept that people were labeling me like that when all I wanted was for them to listen. I decided that I need to talk to someone before my mind completely consumes me. I don’t know what else to do. Could you give me any advice on how to escape my own mind? I apologize for my English; it’s not my mother tongue.

...See more is it weird to have two therapists? I'm seeing a counselor on my college campus that I really like but we're only allowed sessions every other week. I'm realy struggling right now though and I think I would best benefit from going to someone once a week but it would be my first time finding a counselor in my college town. So i feel like for a few weeks i would have two. Is that strange?

...See more In February of this year I lost my grandfather. I sat up in the hospital that week. I arrived back to the hospital 10 minutes after his passing but my sisters were able to be there with him. In March of this year I lost my boyfriend he had a heart attack at home in bed beside me and he did not make it. This month I held on to my mother as she took her final breath and passed from cancer. My best friend through it all was there for my partner's passing but suddenly disappeared for awhile and she just text me the other day from a different phone number and she sounds very paranoid and schizophrenic and I'm so worried about her. I just feel like losing all these people and now my best friend seems to be suffering with mental illness or something. My heart is aching and I just feel overwhelmed.

I can't stop cleaning.

...See more I don't feel happy if I don't springclean one room per day (house with 10 rooms). I feel like I need to wash the ceiling and scrub the conners of each room because then it looks healthy and happy. But I love to paint, I want time to paint but I don't want to sit and paint in a imperfect home. Every day I think that I can get time to paint after cleaning today, but I don't stop cleaning, I go a little and I can't stop, and then I get to the end of the day and still feel like I've achieved nothing because I can't use my talent. How do I get myself somewhere where I can clean but be healthy about it?

...See more I just need to know if there's anyone who has any insight because I believe I have an unusual situation. I have anxiety that I may have been born with (because it's present in my earliest memories) along with erratic thoughts and behaviors that I can't link to anything that happened in my life. I have triggers and avoidant behaviors that have caused me to wreak havoc on relationships in my life. I believe that I have AvPD traits (I'm 16, so I couldn't be diagnosed anyways.)  I feel like obsessing over the idea that something happened to me when I was too young to remember has become a coping tactic for being born defective. At this point it is one or the other, because I've never met anybody else like me. I don't have a clue what to do.

How do I get over my fear of failure
by SouthBridgeBird

...See more I recently took a big exam in school, and we have four big exams and a final at the end. The four exams are the only grades that count, and Ive never been a good test taker. I failed the first exam due to my own lack of preparedness and now Ive taken the third and I feel like I did poor on that one meaning I would have failed two exams which is the max you can fail and im worried my grade will be unable to recover. Im so scared of failing this class as its kind of the one-way ticket into my field. theres other programs I can get into but then I leave everyone in this class and im sure theyll speculate and now my graduation will be delayed as well. I'm so terrified of failing every little thing and I can't get over it. Does anyone have any advice of how to manage the feeling and get over the way I feel because I can't stop crying or freaking out over the fear of failing this class.
