The Gratitude Project: List 3 Things That You Are Grateful For...
by LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS
Last post

...See more Hi there, Today we will learn a little more about gratitude and learn how to express this. Studies have shown that if you practice daily gratitude practice, it can make you feel happier and improve your health. What is Gratitude? Gratitude is the expression of appreciation for what one already has and not ones future desires or hopes. It is generated from within. This social emotion strengthens relationships, and its roots run deep in evolutionary history, and it stems from the survival value of helping others and being helped in return. Studies show that specific areas of the brain are involved in experiencing and expressing gratitude. Brain scans of people assigned a task that stimulates gratitude show lasting changes in the prefrontal cortex that heighten sensitivity to future experiences of gratitude, thus feeling happier and healthier. Please list 3 things that you are grateful for and share daily if you feel comfortable to do so!

Ashley's replies to your questions will follow starting on Monday the 24th of March 2025. Get your questions in before 7PM EDT Friday 3-28. To subscribe, so you can follow this thread and the therapist's answers, hit the subscribe button in the lower left of this post to get alerts when new posts are made to this thread. We welcome your questions, but what type of questions should I ask? We welcome any questions that are related to mental health experiences and challenges. You may also want to ask questions about therapy and coping skills for particular challenges you face. Please avoid asking the therapist for specific advice like "should I date this guy after meeting him online?" You may ask the therapist for coping options with the particular mental health challenges you face and they can share suggestions that you may want to consider, but this is not an advice column. It is more like a place to learn about how online therapy at 7 Cups could help you deal with life and the many challenges it presents. If you have any customer service-related questions please email support@7cups.com as they cannot be answered in this thread. Finally, please avoid questions about medication as these are best suited to be answered by your physician, and anything not normally discussed in 7 Cups forums. If you have a question about this thread, please feel free to PM either one of us https://www.7cups.com/@amiablePeace77 or https://www.7cups.com/@soulsings I am subscribed to this thread and eager to hear your questions and the therapist's answers. Three week period of mourning wrapped up early this year
by Summershy

...See more Note: There are TW in here about religion: Backstory: I am a Messianic believer, means that while I belive in Christ as a savior, I also follow the Hebrew or biblical calendar. Every year, we observe a period of mourning, praying, reflecting, and fasting.   During this time, we follow certain restrictions which is very grueling at times.  The whole experience also feels like I am living in another dimension.  I also seem to forget about everything else that goes on in life.  Then once they end, it's like I forget all about the three weeks as if they never happened.  Being that the Hebrew calendar is different than the Gregorian Calendar, this period moves around every year.   During this year, the three weeks started on July 1 and ended last Friday at noon.  Usually, the three weeks start mid july and end early to mid August.   So, being that the three weeks have wrapped up early this year, it feels weird.  I keeping thinking that the fast is coming but it's done.  Still, it's nice to get back to my life early.  At the same time, I have already forgotten about the three weeks and what happened.     In talking to my therapist, she said that my brain is protecting itself from the stress of that time.

...See more After how many years and how many therapists am I allowed to say that I am the problem and that therapy doesn't work for me? I'm at a number of years and more than a few therapists and I don't think I am able to benefit from therapy of any kind. I have a feeling of what sort of answers I will get, but I am still interested to see what others' feel about it.

...See more Hi: I recently wrote about my last experience at a synagogue and realizing that the situation was toxic.  It's been a week and I have had a chance to talk about it on 7Cups, close friends, and therapist.   Even though I am feeling better and ready to move on, I am having a hard time not talking about. When I brought it up with my therapist, she said it's because it's a big change and I have a lot to process.  A few people have told me to keep going to the new congregation because I have met new people there who are nice/

...See more Hi there, I’m gecko. I’m a 16 year old female who recently uncovered sever trauma from my childhood. I have CPTSD, depression and anxiety which all come with a number of mental and physical symptoms. I have a fear of men which doesn’t allow me to go to school or interact with boys my age. I’m slowly stepping out of my comfort zone and reconnecting with boys my age and trying to break out of my shackles. The last few weeks there has been a number of triggers that have pushed me to think su*cidal thoughts. I have a therapist but I only speak to her once a week. I don’t have any other outlet or form of help. i speak to my mom about many things because I have no one else in my circle, she tends to hurt me more often than help me. I’m lost, scared and vulnerable. i would appreciate any help and/or advice. Knowing that there is a community which can support me brings me great happiness. Thank you.

I hate my mother

...See more I am here for the first time so forgive me if I am writing this on wrong place. When you see a daughter shouting/hating on her mother you always think the problem is the daughter. Mothers are said to be someone who loves their kids unconditionally. But that's not the case with me. I am 17 right now and I will not ever call her my "mother". Ever since I was a kid I remember her treating me differently than my siblings, I have a younger brother and older sister. But our relationship only worsened and its not like I not tried, I tried to more nice to her but she never cares. She cusses at me from 2 years. I was a little overnight from 6 years she always used to fatshame me. If I eat she had a problem that I eat too much but because of that I started eating lesser and lesser. Really small portions of food but still she had a problem. At a moment I started eating one time in day that too just some fruits. When I didn't eat food she told my dad I waste food. Recently, she made something and me and my siblings ate equally. I ate the last one and next day she tells me that I shouldn't have ate that she wanted to eat it. She stole money from me and I found about it, she became more mean. She many times stole my clothes and never gave it back even my footwear. I can somewhat cook so I used to cook something for me and my siblings as she didn't let me eat. Then at one time she completely stopped making food for even my siblings. We have to go out somewhere or make something ourselves. During school too she never made tiffin especially for me. My dad always brought me some snacks. I was eating breakfast at 6 am and coming home at 3 pm. She told our relatives bad things about me and many believed her because she seems nicer than me, i dont talk much to people. And i didn't want to talk about her because i still had some respect for her. I love my siblings and they can see her hatred for me. But i cannot tell them about how worse is she when they are not around. Many people come and ask me why am i mean to my mother or give advice like she loves you you should always help her around she does not think had of you.She many times have told me I am not her daughter and I can never call her "mother" too. She fake cries in front of relatives and they take her side. My dad knows the truth about her and they don't have a good relationship as well to be honest if he was never there I would have been dead. He loves me too but my mother doesn't like and tries to ruin our relationship. But he is my hero he always knows me. I don't wanna be the victim but it's hard to heal this for me. I wanna be stronger so please give me some advice I cannot open up to people . Also I am really insecure and very introverted and I cannot make any friends. I have just 2 real friends

...See more As the more time passes it seems like the harder it is to cope. Big things are happening in my life and I just have to do it without him. His death affected me more than one in my family did but my family doesn’t talk about their emotions. My parents are pretty closed off on the emotional aspect. My dad was in my life and was a dad but he was emotionally distant. It kinda felt like he wasn’t really there in my life even though he was. But he never showed emotions. Feelings are just overreactions and nothing good comes out of them. Don’t get me wrong I love my family but holding this inside has been absolutely terrible. I grew up emotionally closed off. I am at the point in my life that I can’t show people I care about them because the emotions and ways to show it were never used with me. But I know that I should talk about it and let it out but I fear what will happen. What stopped them? Why do I need to talk about it? I’m not weak. But I’m not okay either. I just don’t know what to do. I want to make my grandfather proud but idk how to feel. I miss him so much and as the more important things go on I just feel like something is missing. Him not being at something special to me was the hardest part and I just hurt everytime I think of it. Like all this I have to do without him. But the circle continues unfortunately.
