Do you know why they had to leave early? Is this something your husband was aware of in advance? What were folks' expectations around how long they'd stay, and where they were going afterwards? How was his relationship with them before this happened? First birthday gatherings are such amazing and fun milestones, and I can appreciate how frustrated he'd be with their leaving early. Let him know that you do empathize, and that it's important to you that you talk about what is wrong. Let your parents know why he's upset, and find out why they needed to leave so early. Give your husband time to calm before you talk to him, but let him know that you do need to talk together about what happened, and find a way to mend things.
