It’s great that you reached out and asked a question. Often, there are people who find alternatives to cutting, and these alternatives satisfy their need to harm themselves.
Some people like to use the ice cube method, where they can hold an ice cube in their hand until in completely melts, and often numbs the hand.
One that worked for me personally was to get a red marker or pen and draw lines on myself, whether that be my wrists or my thighs. The good thing about this is that it wears off after some time, and it won’t scar.
Another thing people do is snap a rubber band on themselves to make them feel pain.
If you really need to be satisfied with that blood, you can try getting a needle or a pin and pricking your skin so it bleeds, but it will not have a huge scar.
There is no gurentee that you will stop. I can’t tell you that, but if you put in the small effort and try the tips I’ve listed above you may find that you stop cutting. I’ll have you know it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it. You may need some work getting out of the habit, but try some new alternatives.
I think that everyone can stop this behaviour even though many years elapsed since they begun to do it. Strong motivation to stop this behaviour is required hovewer as urges to behave this way can be very strong and strong Will and motivation are needed to resist them. Also psychotherapy might be needed to help you coping with these urges and emotional issues which might be lying underneath as many people use above mentioned behaviour to cope with emotional issues they have. But hope that you stop with above mentioned behaviour exists. I hope that you Will find a way to stop it.
