Nourishing & Depleting Activities

User Profile: VerseArt
VerseArt September 12th, 2021

Hello! Hope you are having a wonderful day.

There are some activities that uplift us while some deplete us. We do both of those sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously.

Today, let’s write about the activities that we do on a typical day. Some that nourish us and some that deplete us as well.

  1. Write some ‘N’ activities that Nourish and Uplifts you.

  2. Write some ‘D’ activities that deplete or drains your energy.

Blog Archive Monday Inspiration: What Nourishes Your Mind, Body & Soul? - Healthy Chicks Nourishing Yourself – appliedalliance

Tag at least 3 people to know about the activities in their typical day as well.

Hey, how are you doing?❤
I agree with you, we often get involved in things that are unhealthy for us. Hence, we must be mindful of what we're getting ourselves into as it can sometimes happen unintentionally.
I believe that this is a thoughtful exercise, thanks for remembering and tagging me, dear Art! ❤
  1. Write some ‘N’ activities that Nourish and Uplifts you.
Some of the activities I indulge myself in that acts as a stress buster and uplifts my spirit are as follows:
    - Nature walk - A walk at dawn is everything.
    - Necklace making - I have a habit of making bracelets and necklaces outta collected stones, shells, gems, etc.
    - Newspaper reading - I read columns dedicated to health, fitness, exercises, everyday life hacks, poetry, educational pages where I get to learn something without having to stress about remembering those things (like how we do in exams). 😅
    - Nail Art - I am fond of creative nail arts so creating my designs helps me relax.
    - Night sky watching - Looking at the sky, make me think how great is The Almighty God and how small are my world problems. It gives me the strength to move forward without complaining much about what I'm going through.
    - Note-taking (Journaling) - I love writing about my daily accomplishments which helps me motivate myself to focus in the right direction.

Overall, my creativity helps me release the stress of everyday life. ❤ How about you?

  2. Write some ‘D’ activities that deplete or drains your energy.

    - Drinking an inadequate amount of water - I am personally working on it since drinking water has amazing health benefits.

    - Distressing myself too much - It is a universal fact that nobody has ever gained anything from overthinking. Rather, people only suffer when they stress over something that they cannot control. Stress is the thief of our blissful moment, it hinders our ability to perform, sucks our energy, and must be avoided. I have a habit of overthinking and I am working towards it.

    - Detachment - There are instances in life when detachment is required and is also healthy in a way such as backing off from a toxic relationship or detaching from so-called friends who always make you feel inferior. Here, I am talking about unhealthy detaching habits such as not talking to anyone for months or even years due to XYZ reasons. We, humans, are social animals who need to interact with others to lead healthy lives. Staying connected with people is extremely important for our well-being. A prolonged period of seclusion can lead to various mental health concerns such as social phobia, depression, etc. Thus, it is highly recommended to draw a line to avoid overdoing it. Currently, I am working on having a healthy balance between my time and socializing healthily. I can say I am on the right track since I ditched many toxic friends recently.

Hello @lyricalAngel70 ❤

I'm doing well. Thank you! How are you?

It's so good to see that you have so many activities that nourish and uplifts you. I do some similar activities like journaling, newspaper reading, and night walks. I love nail art too. I don't create it but I love watching it on Pinterest xD

I agree with all the activities you have mentioned above especially overthinking. I relate to it. It drains us mentally and emotionally.

Thank you so much for participating and sharing the activities on your typical day with us. 💛

Have a great day ahead!

HI Angel! smileyheart Thank you for your contributions to this post! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts! angel
For me, I truly loved how you brought up detachment and how sometimes that could potentially be a negative thing or a positive thing! I thought it was brilliant! I too love hearing about life hacks and I think they are so much fun. Glad you brought up nail art also, been looking at these cuticles for 2 weeks, truly, it's time for me to slow down and push them back. *high fives* and *hugs* heart

Hey hey @VerseArt , thankyou for creating this wonderful post and for tagging me❤
Not so sure but I'll try to answer this the best way I can hehe !
  1. Write some ‘N’ activities that Nourish and Uplifts you.
    ♡ Journaling and writing
    ♡ Listening to music
    ♡ Going for walks
    ♡ Being around loved ones

  2. Write some ‘D’ activities that deplete or drains your energy.
    ♤ Procrastinating
    ♤ Overthinking / Worrying / stressing
♤ I dunno if it's an activity but " not prioritizing " things sometimes is draining and depleting for me too

HI Verse! smileyheart *high fives* on the amazing post and thank you for the tag!

1. Some activities that nourish and uplift me would be

listening to music
reading
taking a hot bath
lighting a scented candle
setting boundaries: mental, emotional and geographical/physical space in an effort to come to a level of detachment when having to deal with toxic people, realizing things for what they are and being happy with those choices

2. Some activities that deplete or drain my energy

having a great deal of responsbility in real life for others around me. It's hard to some days feel as if you care more and are trying harder in an effort for them to have positive outcomes than they do. I am getting so much better at this though. Over time, I have been back peddling, releasing some of the responsiblity and allowing others to receive the natural consequences of their own choices. Works like a charm!
labor intensive tasks
again, toxic people that still have to be "dealt with", repelled from as opposed to gravitating towards and embracing

@SparkyGizmo Thank you so much for tagging me, Gizzie! It's so great to meet you in the forums hehe. I hope you have been doing well heart thank you so much for such an amazing post @VerseArt you are awesome!

I really like your answers and they are very similar to me too! This seems like a really interesting activity, it reminds me of a habit tracker thing that James Clear in his Atomic Habits talks about - how we should add "+" and "-" to the current things we do daily. I don't remember it fully haha. But I'd love to think over this in the thread! :)

I do understand what you mean by responsibility here, you really do a lot for those around you, Gizzie. It really is hard to care more for others and be the one who feels they need to dash right in, in order to work something out but I am glad you are letting yourself just be and not rush in anymore. I believe it must have taken a lot out of you to reach a place where it is possible but I am really happy you are doing it! Also hey *high fives* for setting up important boundaries like that!

  1. Write some ‘N’ activities that Nourish and Uplifts you.
    Reading a book
    Listening to music
    Exercise
    Weight Training
    Watching feel-good movies/TV shows
    Positive self-talk
    Doing something for self-improvement

  2. Write some ‘D’ activities that deplete or drains your energy.
    Texting people all the time
Being around people more than I have been alone
Negative environment in which everyone is mostly complaining
Responsibilities that I have taken up that isn't pleasurable to me
    People pleasing
Putting others needs/wants before my own

Don, loved your answers! I felt the "clearing notifications" part and oh boy, is it so draining 💜 Thank you for tagging me here!

@SparkyGizmo
Great answers as usual! High five 💜 Thanks for the tag and I can already see how our answers will find some intersection again haha.

Some nourishing activities for me are: Reading, writing, music, gardening, oh and long showers haha

Some depleting activities for me are: Toxic company (though I deal with it just fine, it sure can be draining), having to put up a facade (the times I can't be 'Me' haha), having to roll in a workspace where the basic understanding among the team members lack 💜

@VerseArt

Thanks, River 🤗 here you go:

  • Write some ‘N’ activities that nourish and uplift you: alone time, self-care, being productive, creative works, exercise, spend time with loved ones. I would add dancing and singing, but I'm hopeless at that, so those activities uplift me up but torturing others in up to 50m distance xD

  • Write some ‘D’ activities that deplete or drain your energy: disagreement with loved ones, being around many people for long hours, being indoors too much.
