Hi All! Last time we discussed some qualities we value in our relationships (not just romantic relationships). However one must also reflect on what we do not tolerate in our relationships. There are obvious answers like any kind of abuse is off limits, however, we all have unique things we really can not stand.

What are your pet peeves when it comes to relationships?

Common pet peeves in relationships include:

  • Lack of communication - Not feeling heard or understood.

  • Broken promises - Letting each other down through inconsistency.

  • Lack of quality time - Feeling disconnected due to busy schedules and lack of intimacy.

  • Unmet expectations - Having different views on roles, responsibilities, and relationship goals.

Ooh great one and I think I'll tick them all as my pet peeves lol! But but I think my biggest pet peeve in any relationships is lack of space. I'm big on personal space and cannot function well without it haha! xD

Also another big one, I dunno how to put it, but another is the loss of individuality while being in one! (Which I've seen happening so often with most people, and it's usually too late for either to realise how it impacted their relationship)

More than one people come together in a relationship, and it's a relationship because they are together, but it's not cool when the personal identity/ self is being overpowered or the more unfortunate side, "faded away".

So to say, Two "individuals" come together in a relationship, and are always more than just their relationship, relationship being a "part" of their life and not their entire life.

Ofcourse, There should always be mutual love, respect, care and communication on an equal basis, in any relationship! ❤

Interesting post, Hope! How about you, what's your biggest pet peeve(s) in relationships?

I am glad that I found this post but my pet peeves in relationships of mine are

  • When someone who is supposed to "Care about you" constantly seems to compete with you
  • People act like they are better and superior to others
  • People who "Care about you" talk about their plans in front of you don't invite
  • People who break promised
  • People who act like they are your friend and then kick you to the side when someone else comes along who is more important
  • People who make plans with you and then bail at the very last minute

I feel like relationships in general are one of my biggest pet peeves at this point.

Communication is a big one, but there's another that's just as big now.

Tired of being with someone, and within months, having them and everyone around them foaming at the mouth for us to get married and have kids. I honestly don't believe in myself doing either of those things, so if I decide to, it's going to be a big deal... And not because I think those things are wrong, but because of who I am as a person. I'm pretty upfront about it now, because I've learned from mistakes with that. But speaking of mistakes, I'm not interested in repeating everyone else's. A lot of the same people that are up in my business about it are the same type to advise young people to never get married. And if I end up in a mistake marriage, that's partly on me, but I don't want to pass that cycle down either, and having kids to begin with is part of that.

My main point is this. Marriage is an institution. If someone's more into an institution than me, then why bother? I'm pretty chill about the topic and the possibility until I hear about it too much. And then, kids are a big responsibility. I don't know if it's a responsibility for me... And I don't really feel like this is a world that I feel is suitable for me to throw someone into either. I've got a lot of anxiety about that topic, and I don't know why people are so baby obsessed.

@Hope I can definitely relate to lack of communication and unmet expectations. I ended up doing time because the other member did not communicate at all. My struggle was telling myself not to break down why communication broke down, over the years I did it anyway and realized I had to stop because I would literally drive myself into a headache.

All the ones you mentioned are on the list.
Also would add:

I guess it would be something along with identity.
I got into a relationship with 'you' because of 'you'. Not because of what you 'could be' or what we 'will be'.

When two be are in a "real" relationship they will change. It is what it is. But I don't like it when the essence of the other is lost.

What are your pet peeves when it comes to relationships?

My pet peeves are being compared to "other" girlfriends. I really detest that. Also, I hate being used as a financial institution. I'm not your supplier of money. You need to have a job and contribute. Another is when someone is always is jealous of friends of the opposite sex. That drives me up a wall. I've had male friends for decades; I tell him; " your jealousy is most unbecoming". These are my pet peeves. 😡😏

not paying attention as each new thing in their life changed i followed ......i noted all their preferences and likes .........

Now i know they could not tell anything i like now ......... told me they thought my favorite restaurant was one we had not been to in 15 years!.......

it may have been 15 years ago....but do they even see me Now? Nope ...................i am a complete stranger playing a part as their partner .... i have never been so alone as when i am with them.

A few other pet peeves of mine are when

1. When someone throws a tantrum with you after you tell them that you don't feel like they haven't been a good friend

2. When people make and break promises and then shift the blame or make excuses to justify their behavior.

3. Whenever people blame us for "Overreacting" when they bail on us at the last minute after planning to do something for a month, instead of saying, admitting that they were wrong.

@Summershy

4. People who make it sound like they are our friends but then leave us at the bottom of their list.

@Hope What are your pet peeves when it comes to relationships?

My girlfriend has more pet peeves then me. Sometimes we have lack of communication. Broken promises occur more than I want it too. Lack of quality time, having 2 jobs makes it hard to maintain it. Someone gets a short end of it. Unmet expectations Trying to find people to cover for you at work so I can speed more time with there, but not always the case.
