@Heather225

Heyaaaaa I do have some questions

-How do titles such as Community Manager, mentor, Teen Star and so on work? What are some other titles on this site?

Please note that I'm already aware of how Listeners work so that's not something you'll need to explain :P

-Is there a list of rules available? I'm guessing there's general stuff like no spam, no inappropriate or gory content, and no bullying, but there's always little community specific rules. I guess what I'm really asking is can you give me a general overview of things I shouldn't do here?

The reason I'm asking imao is because sometimes I'll rush into things without fully understanding what I'm doing, or forgetting/missing certain details, and it's gotten me into a lot of unneeded drama and I'm hoping to avoid that :D

-Who are the people who manage 7Cups? How is this place managed?

@Zevia1MM

I can answer 2 questions xD if ok lol

There's community guidelines with all the rules, do's and don'ts

You can also see the chatroom rules linked in the rooms already and the forum guidelines also linked in forums while making post

https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/

There are many roles for everyone, I found this helpful- https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/10oh0pBR1rt9C6tMAhRvjF1TfgAEHbyDQyimizN4hdfU/edit#slide=id.g8aabae01b3_1_5 but I guess all of these are volunteer roles except community management team and com mods :)

hope this helps a little and hope it is ok to reply @Heather225

@Zevia1MM-How do titles such as Community Manager, mentor, Teen Star and so on work? What are some other titles on this site?

All these various roles represent leaders in the community. They all serve in different domains that support the platform such as quality (maintaining listener quality), safety (safety measures), group support (chatrooms), subcommunities (these forum spaces), and Academy (free personal and professional courses). Most roles are open only to listeners, but there are a few member roles. If you're interested in looking into them to contribute more to the platform, let me know and I'll link you.

-The reason I'm asking imao is because sometimes I'll rush into things without fully understanding what I'm doing, or forgetting/missing certain details, and it's gotten me into a lot of unneeded drama and I'm hoping to avoid that :D

I hear you! I think this member welcome pack will be of use to you!

-Who are the people who manage 7Cups? How is this place managed?
We've got a diverse team who manages various domains. We've got Ambassadors (highest-level volunteer leadership) and the Community (Admin) Team. Click on our bios for info on what we all do.

To read about updates from the Admin Team and just see what's going on, I recommend subscribing to this community:

Hi. I don’t know if you’re looking for someone older to chat with for support, but I am 51. I am new to this app, and I don’t really know how it works yet.

Im not sure what actual question i have, I’m just a little lost - there’s so much, and it’s easy to get turned around. Do you have any recommendations or tips? Directions to places would also be helpful

@Optimisticempath Unfortunately you've posted a couple of old links here that no longer work. Forums (or subforums) have been renamed topics, links to topics are not currently allowed, and links to the old subforums have been disabled.

To find those topics (Questions & Information about using 7 Cups, and Resources at 7 Cups to Help You), go to the Newbie Hub Community. Then press the unlabelled filter button, (the symbol is a visual pun that you'll only get if you've studied science) or look in the Filter by Topic panel (if there is one—in some circumstances it shows up and in others it doesn't).

Yes, I agree, it's quite confusing 😉

Thank you for this post, really helpful for all to navigate through

Hey there,

I am new here and am wondering how I can educate myself on what self help guides are available to our callers on the site. Where would I find these?

Thanks

@BeautifulWinter100 Hello winter, welcome to 7 cups. You can find them here under the trainings Training, Certification & Rewards

@yourbuddy30 The listener training pages are only available to listeners. The question that was asked is: "what self help guides are available to our callers on the site. Where would I find these?"

The Self Help Guides page is where they are listed. Members (logged in to a member account) and guests (not logged in at all) can see that page and access the most of the guides. The ones for listeners only are labelled, and only listeners see them in the list.

@CompassionatePeacemaker0810 haha a table of contents would definitely be helpful.

Some good places to start with could be the Member welcome pack and the Community guidelines. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions about anything in particular. ❤

I can't open the links...they work.... I cannot open them if they take me outside the app. Where can I view the member welcome pack within the app?

RarelyCharlie December 1st, 2022

@CompassionatePeacemaker0810 The correct app for the welcome pack is the Google Docs app. It will open in that if you have it. Otherwise it opens in a web browser.

The correct app for the community guidelines is a web browser.

The 7 Cups app only supports a limited set of features compared to the website.

@sunshineKoala34

Nice to have you here, Veronica.

You can take chats when you feel ready for them. (Be mindful to switch your status to "online/green" only when you are actively taking chats, and okay with receiving personal requests) Please check out the listener primer document with lots of insight and useful resources that'll help you begin your listener journey. Trainings can be found in this section- Training, Certification & Rewards.

You're welcome to reach out to a listener coach and quality mentors as well, who can do practice chats with you, provide feedback and resources, and be a guiding figure for you.

Feel free to reach out, if you have any questions or need any assistance. ❤ Good wishes.

Is there some reason why the listener selected for me when accessing chat would suddenly become hostile, accuse me of not speaking honestly in my native tongue and then turning accusatory with no rational explanation? I disconnected from them and blocked immediately. I did not understand what the problem was, we exchanged pleasantries, I said i was a teacher, then they asked if my native tongue was really English, and accused me of dishonesty. They even used "wtf". I didnt enter into the conversation to be interrogated. Very weird. Any clue as to how this can happen?

Hey @Whereismymind65, I'm sorry you had to experience such unkind, unsolicited and unprofessional behaviour from a listener, specially when you needed some support. This was really uncalled for and not tolerable at all. :(

The block button does have a report space provided too, so I hope you sent across a brief report describing their behavior.

You may further report them to community@7cups.com with their username, any screenshots if available, on what happened in the chat, to intimate the admin team, so they can take any necessary steps of intervention here.

Hoping the listener can seek to learn and improve from the feedback they receive, and try to do better next time.

Having said that, it may be difficult after a negative experience but please do reach out to a different listener, in times of need or want, you deserve better support definitely, and I hope you find it soon. ❤

@Whereismymind65 I think you did the right thing when you blocked this hostile listener. It is more difficult to precisely answer your questions, Is there some reason why… and Any clue as to how this can happen?

First, you should know that "the listener selected for me" is not accurate. What happens is, listeners can see a list of the members who have requested chats. A listener can then select someone from the list. It's the listener who does the selecting. Listeners are asked to take the specified topic into account, if there is one, and otherwise to select the member who has been waiting longest, but listeners do not always do as they are asked.

Listener training is very brief, and it does not include any verification at all. For example, listeners are advised that "Active listening is not sharing your own opinions", but there is no verification that listeners understand what this means. Listeners who are determined to share their own opinions are free to go ahead and chat to members. Verification is available for more experienced listeners, but not for the newbies.

So I suppose the short answer to why this kind of thing can happen is that there are no safeguards in place to prevent it.

By the way, you can find experienced verified listeners by using our Browse Listeners page. If you would like to see for yourself how we train new listeners, you can sign up here: Become a Listener. (You don't actually have to take any chats, but of course you can if you want to.)

How do I unlock other live/real-time support chats other than sharing circle and 24/7?

Is there some sort of YouTube how-to video that can be watched? I am using the 7 Cups app on my phone, and it’s a little confusing and overwhelming. Maybe it would be better if I tried a web-based version, if there is one?

Thanks!

Hey @halfempty1, welcome to the community. The app can surely take more time getting used to, there's a web version definitely, with more features also, you're welcome to access it @7cups.com. There is a 7 cups official youtube channel and some videos suggesting the use as well. This member welcome pack will help you feel more accustomed also. Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with. ❤️ (blue text is clickable)
