...See more Welcome back all, I hope you are all taking it easy on yourself at work this week. Last week we discussed: What are your experiences with respect in the workplace? [https://www.7cups.com/forum/career/General_2503/WorkPrompt16Whatareyourexperienceswithrespectintheworkplace_326809/]   [https://www.7cups.com/forum/career/General_2503/WorkPrompt14Haveyoueverfacedadifficultdecisionatwork_325320/]Thank you to all who participated and shared their thoughts for discussion. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/career/General_2503/WorkPrompt16Whatareyourexperienceswithrespectintheworkplace_326809/] This week's prompt: Do you struggle with self-doubt and negative self-talk? The battle with self-doubt and negative self-talk. How many times have you found yourself hesitating to take that leap of faith, pursue your dreams, or simply speak up because that little voice inside your head told you that you're not good enough? It's a struggle that many of us face, but it doesn't have to define us.  I am looking forward to discussing these issues and sharing experiences to support each other in this journey towards emotional well-being. Let's use this space to discuss and share our struggles and challenges to support each other better on this front.  Also, I invite all to help me with creating these weekly prompt discussions so that we all can come together and discuss something related to work and career every week. Any teachers dealing with constant negativity?

...See more I'm a special education teacher that works with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities. I absolutely love my job and I can't imagine doing anything else. I'm tired sure, but I am not burnt out. What I am burnt out on is the constant negativity and just almost the expectation that we should hate our job and be burnt out. How is anyone else combating it? The constant negativity is what is draining me, not the job itself.

Feeling let down, unsure where to go.

...See more Hey, everyone. This will be mostly me venting, but please do contribute your experiences and personal advice. I, have been working on several plans to handle what I condense to, the modern states of Judgement, Conflict and Greed that has everyone in a bind. I think you can think of a few examples of what I mean by that. Judgement, where it's next to impossible to express your authentic self in most places we have to be in life. We learn to lie about who we are. We're asked to lie about who we are. People are quick to take offense, belittle, judge, incriminate one another. On the larger scale, we have people who have slipped through the cracks of support set up for the majority populous. They receive, no support. No intervention. No guidance. No proper example on how best to survive. However, once they've taken from nessesity, or from walking a path for far too long, we do what? We string them by their toes for all to see, take their freedom from them; and lock them behind bars. I believe, we are as respectable a species as we treat our least fortunate as a society. Greed has taken from the planet again and again. It's taken from homes, from lives. I won't divulge further, I don't see the need. Conflict, neither. As it's, apperant. Families torn apart from the inside, for generations. The advice from elders, ignored. Tools of violence built to resolve disputes of the tounge. Tldr: I want to do something. I have many ideas how. I want to, build a podcast. Where we could host conversations between experts, with the intent of bridging knowledge gaps. I also, want to host conversations between opposing moderates, to show that we can come to understand one another, and the truth. I also have a idea for a really cool anime, based on some theories I've built myself. I'm sort of, having the same issue either way. I lack the relevant experiences or education in either of these areas. I've, spent my whole life without a guide. I grew up, largely neglected. I only really found genuine support a year ago, at almost 29 years old. I'm sort of hoping and praying, that someone would take interest in my ideas, and would support me in understanding what I need to understand. I'd be, eternally thankfull. So far, wherever I go, whoever I tell, no one cares. It's, been hard to comprehend. I'd appreciate anything you have to contribute! -Verity Maxwell.
One retiring + one new hire

Saturday
...See more There are some changes in the staff positions. One colleague who is currently on a relief full-time line, applied to the position of the one who is retiring. So, now she as a permanent full-time position. Which means, her relief line is up for hires. This is where the new hire comes in. If you have been following my previous posts about work, you might remember that this colleague retiring is the problematic one, so, I'm celebrating that she's leaving us soon. The other problem is, the new hire. She and I had a mishap at least 2 years ago. She got me investigated by our Managers. For what I did, I had already apologized through an email I sent out to her and a couple of others. I tried looking past the conflict we've had, but her response gives off the idea that she still holds a gr*dge against me and obviously just doesn't like me. Luckily, the shift she's working, I only have 2.5 hours of overlap shift hours with her, and I could still easily avoid having any interaction with her. Her Relief Line is until end of November though. But to know that she's now on the same team, just thinking about it, makes me feel stressed. I have examples of why I think she holds a gr*dge against me and doesn't like me. There had been times after the incident, when I went down to the department looking for instruments because the staff downstairs couldn't find it. So, the nurses sent me to look for it. When I couldn't find it either, she came back from her dinner break, one of the others asked her. She found it, and I "thanked" her out loud when I walked past her. She totally ignored me and continued a conversation with someone across from the room. Other times, she will call my department asking about questions, whenever I answered the phone, she would ask for others. When I say, they've stepped out or went for break, she's like, can you ask them to call me back or she say's she'll call later. When she asked for another person, and that person is there, I've stuck around just to listen in on what she wanted to ask. And according to what my colleagues answered with, I could've easily told her too. So, that makes it obvious that she doesn't even want to speak to me. So, to know that she's joining the team, I really don't know how that will play out. My Manager knows that we've had some conflict between us, and she told me that she hopes I act professionally and look beyond our differences and work well together. I wanted to tell her, I tried putting it past us ever since the incident happened, but she's the one who isn't forgiving and isn't looking past the incident. Another thing I'm worried about, all the staff on my team, are all buddies-buddies with her, they have all started in the same department downstairs, before coming up to the OR for work. So, I get a feeling that everyone will end up taking her side and I'll be left out. This is a time where I'll feel like I don't want to work this job. Having her on the team just makes the atmosphere give a negative vibe. I have one week of work in April, and by looking at the schedule, she starts on the same day that I have work. Literally, just thinking about it is stressful enough, I know she will eventually apply for a permanent line once the other 2 colleagues retire in the next two years, but hopefully by then, I'll either be gone or maybe I'll try and get my business going again. The one I tried starting last summer, with no income yet.

...See more Welcome back all, I hope you are all taking it easy on yourself at work this week. Last week we discussed:  Have you ever faced a difficult decision at work, and how did you navigate through it?   [https://www.7cups.com/forum/career/General_2503/WorkPrompt14Haveyoueverfacedadifficultdecisionatwork_325320/]Thank you to all who participated and shared their thoughts for discussion. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/career/General_2503/WorkPrompt14Haveyoueverfacedadifficultdecisionatwork_325320/] This week's prompt: What underlying beliefs and thought patterns are contributing to feeling overwhelmed or exhausted? We are all human, and it's natural to experience moments of overwhelm and exhaustion. By identifying and challenging the underlying beliefs and thought patterns that contribute to these feelings, we can take steps towards a healthier and more balanced mindset. Please know it is okay to not have it all together all the time.  Let's support each other in this journey towards emotional well-being. Also, it is time for periodic feedback on these weekly prompts.  * On a scale of 1-10, how helpful did you find these discussions on work and career so far? (10 being most helpful)  * What specific topics related to work and career would you be interested in learning more about or discussing further? Also, I invite all to help me with creating these weekly prompt discussions so that we all can come together and discuss something related to work and career every week. ...See more I really didn't know what else to call it. Am I the only one who feels like they're just some sort of figurative prey in the workfield? Like the leads, supervisors, what have you are just waiting for your next mistake or missed file to leap upon it and broadcast the error to all other supervisors, leads, etc.? This morning I was notified that a customer's file was missing. I had neglected to do the background check but I did it as soon as I realized it wasn't there. That wasn't enough. The supervisor let all other supervisors know that I had missed it even though I put the file where it belonged.  This sort of thing happens frequently--the pointing out of things I've missed I mean. Never an acknowledgement of all the things I did right or completed (and I have a lot to work through in a day). Even if I got 100 right, they would harp on the 1 that was incorrect.  It'a like one can be human but not in the office where everything has to be completely perfect (& that in itself is a contradiction).  I'm just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences. I know it can't be just me feeling like a rodent being observed by a cat.

...See more Called off of work today plus I have tomorrow off.  (They probably think I have a migraine.) Do I feel bad? Well yes and no. I had a week off previously but the week before things have shifted. New rules were put into place that sent a shock wave through me.  I had an epiphany I can’t stay here anymore. So many coworkers are going to school this year. So I thought I should just get a new job just start off fresh. I spent my week off resting and filling out job applications.  One coworker suggested a class to me and it sounded perfect. ( I live in a rural area so this is gonna be online class.) Really though school again? Last time I went I didn’t even get hired for the position I wanted. This is a higher up position so I think it’s perfect. I have to tell myself calling off is okay today. It’s not a reflection of what you’re gonna do in your future endeavor.  I have to rethink everything again well I probably have to keep this job (perhaps I would like to drop to part time) so they can help pay for this school. Plus I think it will help me get hired in faster. ( I believe the stipulation is I have to work a year to pay them back.)  I have a virtual tour of this collage tomorrow and I’m gonna think of some questions to ask. I’m nervous about that. I have that looming on my mind I just need time to think about it.  I have no time to think this job does not give every weekend off. (Only every other.) Sometimes it feels like you have no time to think. You have to hurry up.  I don’t want to lose my benefits I’m not the healthiest. Bad migraines I have to see a neurologist and my depression. I think I have to stick with this position until I can make the switch. It’s difficult to think about everything when you don’t have precious important time.  You have to force precious important time for yourself. To make these life changing decisions! Thank you for listening. 🩷

...See more So hi again I posted here a while back talking about how I was unemployed and was pretty stressed out about It with how much bad luck I ran into with how many times I was getting ghosted, fast forward a few months later and I managed to build up the courage to talk to my Job coach and swap job goals to being a receptionist which was an even more daunting task considering my introverted nature but despite being proud of myself and making a small change I'm starting to have second doubts about it and not really sure what to do on one hand my parents and brother are telling me to try and stay optimistic but I just got ghosted after the only interview I managed to land in months and it sure ain't helping my morale

...See more I have been on my current job for 5 years and have come to the conclusion that it may be time for me to leave. I am conflicted because I love the work that I do and the core group of my team. I cannot defeat the office politics though. In the 5 years, I have been denied promotions and the ability to convert to our client 8 times. When I asked for feedback on how I could improve and be considered for the roles going forward, they would lie to me saying I did things right and they know I belong in one of those positions, just to turn around and being a friend on the team in those positions. I have reached my breaking point this time. The company overall has been great to me, it is just the local political game that makes it hard for me. So, I am on the move to hopefully be appreciated somewhere else.
