Introducing the Pet Corner! How to Create Your Own Pet Thread
by SoulfullyAButterfly
Last post
October 27th
...See more Do you have a furry, feathered, or finned friend who makes your days a little brighter? Or perhaps a beloved pet whose stories you could share forever? We’d love to meet them!  Welcome to the Pet Corner, a cozy little space in Hobby Zone where we can celebrate our pets, share their adventures, and get to know one another through the animals we love. How does it work? We want everyone to have their own little corner to share their pet’s story! Here’s how to get started: 1) Create your own pet thread! Start a new thread with a fun title featuring your pet or pets. Here are a few ideas to inspire you: - Misty’s Cat Adventures - Meet My Bunnies! - My Little Bird Family Feel free to get creative and make the title your own! 2. Share updates in your thread. Got a cute new picture? A funny story? A milestone, a mischievous moment, or just a little update about your pet’s day? Add it to your existing thread! That way, all your pet’s stories and adventures stay together in one place, and we can follow along as they grow and make memories. 3. Visit other members’ threads! Pet Corner is all about sharing and connecting. Drop by to say hello, admire someone’s adorable companion, ask questions, or celebrate their latest update. You never know what friendships might grow from a shared love of animals! You can subscribe to individual forum threads to stay updated. Note: * All kinds of animals are welcome! Cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, fish, reptiles, and every other animal friend you’d like to share. * You don’t have to own a pet to participate. Former pet owners, animal lovers, and anyone who enjoys hearing pet stories are welcome, too. * Please keep conversations kind, respectful, and supportive. Let’s make this a happy space for everyone. * For the sake of keeping things organized, please continue posting your updates in your own thread rather than creating a new one for every update. Ready to Share? Introduce us to your animal companions! Tell us their names, ages, personalities, favorite activities, or the story of how they became part of your life. And if you have a picture you’d like to share, we’d love to see it! We can’t wait to meet your pets and follow along with all their adventures! Have any questions or don't understand how to create a separate thread? Feel welcome to ask below or PM me for guidance.

Video Games: Harmful or Helpful?
by Jenna
Last post
September 22nd
...See more In writing my Masters thesis on this topic, it has become very interesting and a growing aspect within the field of psychology. Due to the increasing media coverage and implementation of new laws concerning gun violence, many families and psychologists have named violent video games such as Call of Duty, Halo, and even Skyrim. The media also lumps together violent video games, which are linked to gun violence and stabbings across the country, to other types of video games, such as roleplaying and even arcade genres. Unfortunately, research outside the realm of violent video games is sparse, indicating a need for researchers to investigate the possible benefits of video game play. According to new research conducted by Kooiman and Sheehan (2015), positive aspects of games occur within exercise-oriented gameplay, newly dubbed ‘exergames. Examples of exergames include additional equipment onto the original console, whether its an Xbox, Wii, or Playstation. Kooiman & Sheehan (2015) describe exergames as video games in which interact both video games and exercise like Dance Dance Revolution and Wii sports, for instance. These types of games have been shown to increase attention span and responsiveness, in addition to the benefits of exercising. Kooiman and Sheehan (2015) also have found that periods of extended and maintained gaming with these types of exergames offer more stable results. Additionally, some video games have been found to be a positive aspect when played by children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on a frequent basis (Finke et al., 2015). Parents had rated childrens ASD symptoms as lessened or better controlled when children ages eight to twelve played simple video games on a daily basis. Parents reactions towards their childrens symptoms were more positive, whereas parents of children who did not play as much video games per day (Finke et al., 2015). Frequent video game usage is one of the main deterrents in accordance with media coverage on video game play and adolescents. For example, in a study conducted by Kuhn et al. (2014), researchers focused on measuring cortical thickness and cognitive functioning after identifying participants who played long-duration video games. In a sample of 152 participants, Kuhn et al. (2014) found that in participants who played the most video games, cortical thickness and cognitive functioning increased, indicating that functioning was quickened and more precise. In a personal opinion, I believe that video games, in an appropriate amounts, can assist in reducing stress and anxiety, by providing forms of relief in reference to daily hassles and chronic stressors. Video games may allow individuals to escape the commonalities of life and allow them to focus on something more than their problems. It is important to broaden the search on video game and media research in order to clear the air surrounding the negative stigma that violent video games hold. Perhaps there are positive aspects among violent video game typologies as well! Overall, the research on video games has mainly focused on violent video games, mostly ignoring other gaming types like roleplaying or arcade. By ignoring these fields of the gaming community, research is limited upon this subject matter. There appear to be distinguishing positive aspects of video gameplay that have been found among the appropriate type of game and length of gameplay. Aspects such as these will continue to provide information on the positive outcomes of maintained video gameplay, but research must focus on distinguishing factors among these. A new free comfort mobile game I recommend trying: Heartopia ✨
by whimsyLeaf7957

August 6th
...See more Hi :) I recently discovered Heartopia, and it quickly became my favourite comfort game. I find it really soothing, so I wanted to share it in case some of you are looking for something cozy and relaxing. What I love about it: * It’s free, and honestly very nice and complete for a free game, I’ve never seen such a good free mobile game * You can play on PC, phone, or tablet * The game is very connected to nature, creativity, and hobbies * The art style is beautiful, and the music + nature sounds are super calming * The community feels really kind and wholesome (everyone I met was really nice!) * It’s multiplayer, so you can play with friends and/or people on the map * The chat system feels safe because you can only talk to people you add as friends * There are sooo many cozy things to do: cooking, building your home, fishing, catching insects, watching birds, feeding wild animals… it’s like a little peaceful world! * There are also cute seasonal events and activities A little safety reminder (especially for younger players): Even if the community is lovely, please stay safe online 💛 If you’re a minor, don’t talk to strangers and don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know. A few downsides to keep in mind: * Time flies in this game ⏰ and there’s no real-world time shown in-game, so I recommend setting a little timer for yourself to avoid spending too much time on screens * There are daily login rewards, which are designed to make you come back every day and can feel a bit addictive * Some items are paid, but they’re only cosmetic (outfits & accessories) and not needed at all * It uses a fair amount of battery and storage space Personally, this game helps me relax a lot. I often play it instead of scrolling on social media, and for me it feels much calmer and less harmful for my mental health. Hope this helps someone find a new little comfort game 💛

...See more I like Pokemon very much...but no has talked to me on it nor made new friendships with me, which I would appreciate. Can I please have conversations and help with Pokemon that I like or what? Also if you people haven't seen, this is my intro thread made in the Newbie Hub: https://www.7cups.com/forum/welcome/General_2418/HelloImnewhereandIneedhelpnewfriendsconversationandsomethinginparticular_332147/ I already explained pretty much everything there, so I don't need to repeat myself again and again. I just want to be considered for my passion on Pokemon and have new friends who also like it very much as I do. Also, for me to share pictures of Pokemon that I like, here's one for example (Victini): So, if by chance, can someone talk with me about this Pokemon creature, too? I know him very well, and have loved him for all the years since he first appeared.

...See more Although no one has answered my question from my other thread if whether photos/drawings of myself are allowed here on 7 Cups or not, I'll just post one drawing of me, with my team of Pokemon. What do you think of this pic? Is it nice? :) I made this using the Pokemon Trainer Creator flash game on a place called NuMuKi. They even have other cool Pokemon flash games I enjoy too, such as Delphox's Fiery Escape (works very similar to breakout) and Eevee's Tile Trial, which I would highly recommend checking out if you haven't played those before. They help kill the time as well. ^^

...See more If you're in search of cosy free games to enjoy on your iOS or Android devices, look no further! Today, we're here to share the joys of gaming and highlight the positive impact it can have on our mental well-being. It's crucial to remember that moderation is key. We'll also touch upon the recommended maximum playtime based on scientific studies. Let's dive in and explore the world of mobile gaming while keeping our mental health intact! 🌟 Benefits of Gaming on Mental Health 🌟 Gaming can offer a wide range of benefits for our mental well-being. Engaging in games can provide relaxation, stress relief, and a temporary escape from the challenges of everyday life. It stimulates our minds, improves problem-solving skills, enhances cognitive abilities, and promotes creativity. Furthermore, multiplayer games can foster social connections, making us feel more connected and supported within a community. However, it's crucial to strike a balance and be mindful of our screen time to maintain a healthy lifestyle. ⏰ Recommended Maximum Playtime ⏰ According to scientific research, it is generally suggested that adults limit their screen time to around 1 to 2 hours per day for recreational activities, including gaming, in order to maintain a healthy balance between virtual entertainment and other essential aspects of life. Taking regular breaks during gaming sessions, standing up, stretching, and moving around every 30 minutes to an hour, can help prevent physical discomfort and strain, while also refreshing the mind. Ensuring proper lighting conditions and maintaining good posture are also important for reducing eye strain, preventing fatigue, and avoiding muscle tension and discomfort. Remember, finding the right balance is key to enjoying the benefits of gaming without compromising our overall well-being.
