Sunspots

...See more Full Resolution [https://ibb.co/yFfcCtjw] Was a bit bored so I took some pictures of the Sun. While the Sun can be a bit boring to look at with a white light filter (fun fact: the Sun is white, not yellow), there's still some things to see. These are Sunspots, "cold" regions on the Sun caused by intense magnetic fields which travel across the face of the Sun. They're mostly associated with coronal mass ejection events and solar flares where the outer atmosphere of the Sun gets ejected into space (and at the Earth if it's in the way, causing the aurora borealis).  Despite the Sun being the sustaining source of all life on Earth, It's said that back in 1859 an extreme solar event (The Carrington Event) caused a strong aurora seen worldwide, electrical sparking across telegraph lines and fires globally. A big fear in todays world of connected technology is if such an event were to happen again it could bring down the entire electrical and communications grid, destroying anything connected to it and essentially throwing humanity back into the stone age. Space is scary lol. I've included a link for full resolution as 7cups scales down and destroy my images 😫 Don't forget to use sunblock☀️

...See more Dear All, I have realized with my experience that if we really give some attention to the surrounding nature, no matter in which part of the world we are ... We will find amazing details in it and one of the way to knowing this details is mobile photography. I have never learned any photography I just made few clicks and found so much beauty that I am surrounded with I am sure if you just give a 2nd look around you will find the same. Please share your findings as well, if you feel like, below are a few samples and situations I came across.

The Sun and The Moon together.

...See more Something a little closer to home, The Sun and the Moon meeting up to form a partial eclipse (93%). The Sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, but it's also 400 times further away which makes them both appear to be the same size in the sky so when they align just right it can form an eclipse, which is sadly not total from my location. Even with that sliver of the sun still shining the sky only dimmed slightly. The next total eclipse here is in 2090, so I'm not sure I'll make that one! 😫

...See more Here's some more deep space objects which I acquired with my phone and a dobsonian telescope! 🔭 The first image is of Messier 13, The Hercules Globular Star Cluster, named so due to its position in the constellation of Hercules, containing more than half a million stars. The second image is of Messier 31, Andromeda Galaxy. Located about two and half million light years away and on a direct collision course with us! It appears very large in the sky, much bigger than the full moon but still too faint to be easily seen with the naked eye.  The third image is of Messier 51, The Whirlpool Galaxy, another large but much more distant galaxy over 30 million lightyears away. It can be seen feeding off another smaller galaxy that has strayed too closely.

M27 The Dumbbell Nebula
by SentryTheDefiant
Last post
July 15th
...See more Here is the deep space object (DSO) Messier 27, The Dumbbell Nebula. This type of object is a planetary nebula, formed by a dying star shedding its outer layers of gas into space. This will also be the fate of our own star, The Sun when it dies 😫 leaving a cosmic bacon of sorts visible for thousands of light years. While these objects are relatively bright, you generally can't see them with the naked eye because of light pollution, and even using a telescope to view them they appear as a faint smudge. So that's where some photographic trickery comes in, if you take enough pictures of that smudge for long enough and stack them all on top of each other that faint detail will slowly come through. It's a long and arduous process, especially using a phone that's not designed to do this but I'm pleased with the results! Potentially more to come 😄

Moon Mosaic (10000x10000)

...See more Here is the Moon once again, only this time its high resolution! This is a very large image but I've also had to compress it so 7cups will allow it. 😁 You can zoom in quite a bit but there may be visible artifacts beyond a certain level. The image is composed of 54 1080p images extracted from 8 separate videos of the moon crossing the frame recorded by pointing my phone through the eyepiece 😁 You can zoom in a bit, but JPEG and Reddit have added to the artifacts if you look too closely.. Enjoy! Info of what I used to get this image: * Moon Mosaic (74%) taken on 25.05.2026 @ 21:48 from the UK * 10000x10000 pixels, 54 x 1080p images, 560MB * 8 Inch Dobsonian Telescope, 9mm 68° eyepiece, S26 Ultra, NexYZ phone adapter * Microsoft ICE, VLC Media Player, AstroSurface, Gimp
