...See more Hi everyone! In the past few weeks, the Teen Leadership Team has been brainstorming ways to better support our transitioning teens. In an attempt to provide you with a space where you can get support on transitioning into the adult side we are launching this Teen Transitioning Support Thread. Here is it how it will go: â This is a safe space for all teens who are soon aging up or have recently aged up to share anything that concerns them about the transitioning process, ask questions and get support. â The thread will be monitored by our Teen Transitioning Mentors. Most of our Teen Transitioning Mentors have gone through the aging up process themself and are passionate about supporting our transitioning teens. They will respond to the members posting in this thread. Important! â This is not a place to get support on matters other than aging up as a teen. This is so we can focus our resources on supporting the teens who are going through the transitioning process. If you are looking for support on a personal matter/in need of a listener, please check our browse listener page. [https://www.7cups.com/BrowseListeners/] *Aging Up: A period when a member/listener who joined 7 Cups as a teenager turns 18 and is moved to the adult side. It is also referred to as the transitioning period. ------------------------- This post is brought to you by the Teen Transitioning Program. Teen Transition FAQs

...See more Hello, teen community! We understand that aging up can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 frequently asked questions to help you navigate the transition process smoothly.  1. What changes will occur when I turn 18? Will I still be able to talk to teens? As you turn 18, you will be transitioned to the adult side of the community. The teen side will no longer be accessible to you.  * You will get the following access:  * Access to adult side group chats * If you are a listener, you will be taking 1-1 adult chats to listen and support them.  * If you are a member, adult listeners will take your 1-1 chat request to offer personal support.  * To reconnect with teens to support them, as a listener you can apply to become an Adult-Teen Listener [https://www.7cups.com/forum/agingup/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/].  2. ATL Application and Roles: How do I apply for ATL? What are the roles and responsibilities? You can read more about the ATL application process here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/agingup/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/].   3. How do I handle transitioning from teen to adult listener? Aging up can be overwhelming. So, transitioning from teen to adult listener can be an additional aspect. Here are a few tips to navigate the aging up process:  * Focus on your priorities and take your time.  * Practice self-care  * Participate in the Listener Support Room to get to know the adult side community. Ask your questions related to listening and mentors & fellow listeners will help you with the best resources and information.  * Request a Transition Mentor to get all support related to your transition on the adult side.  * Focus on taking one chat at a time instead of a bunch of 1-1 chats. Take your time to listen and support them.   * Explore Member group chats. It will help you get a basic understanding of adults' challenges and how they support each other.    4. How do I support adults when I have limited life experience? Very good question! It can be a challenge supporting adults when you have limited life experience. But two things:  * As listeners, our primary role is to provide a safe and supportive space. We avoid giving unsolicited advice, instead focusing on active listening. By listening attentively, showing empathy, and asking open-ended questions, we can help others feel heard and understood. * Suppose you feel you are unable to listen to a specific topic and don’t have enough understanding to support them. In that case, you can let the member know and encourage them to connect with other listeners through the Browse Listeners page.  * Also, you can go to the Listener Support Room to seek ongoing chat support from trained chat supporters. The chat supporters will guide you through listening to the member.  5. Can I still chat with teens after aging up? What are the differences in talking to adults? * As you age up, depending upon the account you have, you may or may not be able to chat with teens.  * If you have a member account, you will not be able to chat with teens.  * If you have a listener account, you will need to become an Adult-Teen Listener to go through the required training to support teens.  * The key difference in talking to adults and teens is their struggles and challenges. The challenges and their thought process tend to vary.        6. How do I handle relationships with existing teen members after aging up? * That's a great question! As you transition to adulthood, you'll gain access to the adult section of the 7Cups community. However, you won't be able to directly support teen members until you complete the training to become an Adult-Teen Listener. In the meantime, you can continue to contribute to the teen forums and offer support to other adult members. * Before you age up, you can let the members know you are about to age up and won’t be available 1-1 to support or listen to them. But they can do two things:  * Connect with other Teen or Adult-Teen Listeners through the Browse Listeners page to get support.  * Participate in forums and tag your username in the format of (@username), so you get notified of the specific thread and you can respond to their posts to support them.  * Create a Check-in thread and tag your members in the Forums to stay connected and check in with them on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis as per your and their availability.   7. How do I deal with anxiety, stress, and other emotional challenges? * Aging up can be daunting and it can cause anxiety, stress, and other emotional challenges along with ongoing challenges and struggles. Before we learn how to tackle it, please remember two points: * Your challenges and struggles are valid and they matter.   * The progress path won’t be linear but your steps will count and accumulate.  * A few approaches that can help you navigate and take care of your emotional well-being are:  * Self-care techniques: Taking steps to practice self-care helps to manage your emotions well. These techniques include mindfulness, healthy eating, sufficient sleep, exercise, hobbies, and relaxation activities but are not limited to them. It can vary from individual and can be more than one or two activities.   * Practicing coping mechanisms like deep breathing exercises, positive affirmations, gratitude journaling, limiting stressors, and problem-solving approaches can help manage stress and care for your emotional well-being.  * Seeking support is a huge one and connecting with support groups, a space to share or vent can be beneficial as you navigate the emotions of aging up.  * Read the self-help guide on Managing Emotions here! [https://www.7cups.com/help-managing-emotions/]  8. What basic life skills should I know, such as cooking, hygiene, and finances? As you transition into adulthood, it is essential to have a solid foundation of life skills. Here are some basic skills to start with: * Cooking: Learn simple recipes like pasta, stir-fries, and sandwiches. This will help you eat healthier and save money. * Finances: Understand basic budgeting, saving, and spending habits. Create a budget to track your income and expenses. * Laundry: Learn how to sort laundry, read care labels, and use a washing machine and dryer. * Cleaning: Know how to clean your living space, including dishes, floors, and bathrooms. Please know these skills take time to develop. Take your time and start with the basics and gradually add more as you feel comfortable. 9. How do I balance college, work, and other responsibilities? Balancing college, work, and other responsibilities can be a challenge, but doable. A few tips to help you manage your time effectively: * Prioritize tasks: Identify what's most important and focus on those first. Use a planner or app to keep track of your assignments, work shifts, and other commitments.    * Create a schedule: Allocate specific time slots for each activity. Be realistic in setting your schedule and ensure you are getting enough rest.    * Time management techniques: Experiment with techniques like the Pomodoro technique to improve focus and productivity.    * Delegate when possible: Please do not be afraid to ask for help or delegate tasks to others if you can. It is okay to ask for help.    * Communicate openly: Talk to your professors, coworkers, and loved ones about your commitments to avoid misunderstandings and find support.  Please know it is okay to adjust your schedule as needed. The key is to find a balance that works for you and helps you achieve your goals. 10. How do I become more responsible, mature, and confident? Becoming more responsible, mature, and confident is a journey, not a destination. A few tips to help you on your way: * Take responsibility for your actions, both good and bad. Identify and learn from your mistakes and strive to do better. * Having clear goals gives you a sense of direction and purpose. Work towards achieving them, no matter how small the steps. Your every step is counting. * Practice self-care by prioritizing your physical and mental health. * Step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. As you challenge yourself, it can help you build confidence and resilience. * Please do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Talking to a trusted friend, family member, or mentor can provide much-needed guidance and support. Please know growth takes time, so be patient with yourself and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Have a question that isn't answered in the FAQs? FAQs: Adult-Teen Listener Program
by ASilentObserver
Last post
January 10th
...See more Support comes in various forms. Listening to a member 1-1, group chats, forums. Supporting a listener or a leader etc. Similarly, when a listener becomes an Adult-Teen Listener (ATL), they are willing to support teens. But while applying to become an ATL [https://www.7cups.com/forum/CommunityProjectsEvents_184/AdultTeenListenersAgingUpSupport_1766/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/], there can be a lot of questions or concerns in your mind. We will be trying to address more of them through this FAQ post. It lists most of the common questions usually a listener may have. ☑️What is the significance of Adult-Teen Listener? Adult-Teen Listener is a unique role in the 7Cups. As 18+, we all have our experiences of being a teenager as well as lived experiences of the transition phase of a teen to adult. We understand the struggles and emotions a teen goes through, so being an ATL allows us to listen, support, and comfort a teen in order to help them have less stressful experiences being a teenager or a teenager in transition. That’s how ATL has a significant impact on the teen community. ☑️What is ATL Interview? Is it necessary to attend? ATL Interview is part of the ATL Onboarding & Training Process. It is necessary for everyone to attend. Without it, your ATL onboarding process may not be completed. ATL Interview is an Audio-Video Meeting with ATL Program Leaders to assess and discuss your support vision and the community’s expectations from an ATL. It is an opportunity for an open conversation with the ATL Program Leaders. ☑️How long ATL interview going to be? ATL interview lasts for 5 minutes to 10 minutes based on the ongoing discussion needed. ☑️Why do I need to submit social media handles or Government IDs? It is required for the ATL Verification Process to protect the privacy and safety interest of an ATL and teens. Having the verification process allows consistency in the application and onboarding process for all. ☑️Is my information secure? They are highly secure and confidential. Any social media handles or Government iD you share is only visible to an Admin. Your information is only used to complete the Verification Process after which the government IDs are deleted. ☑️Does having an interview mean I am approved to become an ATL? Not necessarily. While landing an interview certainly moves you a step closer to becoming an ATL. Though, the best fits are selected. What if I fail the interview or requirements to become an ATL? That is okay. If in case you fail, you will receive feedback to improve your skills in the areas you needed to improve and after a certain period, you can reapply. We are all learning and failing is part of the process. ☑️What kind of questions should I expect during the interview? What are the keys to responding to these questions? In addition to expectations, and behavioral and situational questions, the most common questions you might expect are your vision, how would you support a teen with X situation? How do your listening skills help the teen member? Etc. The key to responding to the interview questions is to acknowledge and identify what encouraged you to apply to be ATL in the first place and how your presence may bring support to the teen community. ☑️I am scared to attend the interview. Any tips? * I hear you and I can relate to how anxiety-inducing interviews can be. Here are some tips that may help reduce anxiety. * Deep breathing: Take slow, deep breaths from your diaphragm to help calm your body and mind. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. * Mindfulness meditation: Focus your attention on the present moment, your breathing, or your body. This can help you relax and reduce worrying thoughts. * Challenging negative thoughts: Identify negative thoughts that are anxiety-provoking and challenge them with more balanced thoughts. This can help reduce anxiety and worry ☑️After becoming an ATL, what I can do? Once you are an ATL, you will have complete access to the Teen Community and you can do the following: * Take a 1-1 Teen Support Chat * Communicate with a Teen Listener 1-1 * Participate in the Teen Member Group Chats to support teen members * Participate in in the Teen Listener Group chats to learn and share your experiences and tips with fellow teen listeners. * Can apply for Leadership Roles like Teen Transitioning Mentor, Teen Chatroom Mentor, Moderator, etc. ☑️If I have a question or any concerns, who should I contact? For anything and everything related to Adult-Teen Listener Program, you can reach out to anyone of us @Bookworm4, @Jenna, @Heather225, and @ASilentObserver If your questions or concerns are not covered here, please add your question to this thread. To apply to become an Adult-Teen Listener, submit your application here! ...See more Hello everyone! Over the past few weeks, I have been working on a way to expand the Teen Transitioning Mentor (TTM) track to be able to assist more people in the community. With that being said, I am so eager to announce the newest additional focus to the track: TTMs can now help support our newest Adult-Teen Listeners (granted teen access one year ago or less) as they transition onto the teen side. Similar to aging-up teens moving to the adult side, ATLs share similar struggles on the teen side such as trying to fit in, boundary setting with teens, understanding the teen side, taking teen chats and so much more! We are very excited to help support our newest Adult-Teen Listeners to our teen side as they make great assets to the teen community. If you are in need of a Teen Transitioning Mentor, please fill out this form [https://forms.gle/kWx9kVaA4jAFx4cM9]. ...See more So, what exactly is an ATL? An ATL is an Adult Teen Listener that has chosen to go through additional safety checks and an interview with a Community Leader to support our Teen Community. Who sees my ID? The only person who will see your ID will be our amazing admin, @bookworm4. Your ID will be kept confidential and only be used to verify your identity. Is the process hard to become an ATL? The process to become an ATL is fairly simple, as long as you meet the needed requirements and follow these steps [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/]. How old are the members and listeners in the Teen Community? Teen Members range from 13-17 and Teen Listeners between 15-17. What are the benefits of becoming an ATL? Becoming an ATL fills a great need. Teen members seek out ATLs for guidance, encouragement and a positive adult figure in their support team. In addition to this, it opens doors for more leadership opportunities, more chatrooms, more amazing people to meet and plenty of cookies as thanks! Are there any additional responsibilities once becoming an ATL? There is currently a quota of 4 member chats a month to maintain the ATL badge, but these chats can be with teens or adults. However, if you fall short, you can get your badge reinstated by messaging @bookworm4 or @Jenna. What is the Teen Community like? The Teen Community is full of some incredible teens who are respectful, responsible, welcoming and kind. As part of the Teen Community, we also have our incredible seasoned ATLs who will welcome you in with open arms as well! Do teens like us ATLs? Teens look up to the ATLs in the community! In fact, here are some of the things they have to say: "I think ATLS really important because they listen to us Teenies, hear what ideas we have - how we feel about things - and they give us a say in things! It makes us teenies feel more incuded , heard and seen with everything thats going on - and also helps us to be able reach out to community leaders and share our thoughts and check in and keep both sides connected and on the same page 😊! They are also really awesome at keeping things safe and happy too. I think its helpful in other ways too..just for the ATLs to see the dynamics of the teenie side, how things look / where improvements can be made so they can feed this back too and help out. Atls are super cool, awesome and always make us smile! We are all super grateful for you all! ♡" "the adults help teen to develop sense of boundaries and responsibilities. they also help teenies to learn more about active listening skills and encourage them to do better! 😀" Become an ATL today and make an impact in the Teen Community! ...See more Hi everyone! We have noticed some confusion around the topic of time required in application processing for the Adult-Teen Listener role. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/agingup/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/]It takes anywhere between 1 to 3 weeks for your application to be processed, whether it is 1 week or 3 depends on a few factors! Tips to get your application processed asap ☆ Make sure that you read the application carefully and that you meet the criteria of the role. ☆ Always write your full username including all numbers, if you change your username you will need to reach out to either Bookworm4, Tazzie, Jenna, or Gracey to update it. ☆ Give valid social media handles, if there is a typo or the link provided is not valid, your application will not be considered. ☆ Give a community reference that is active. If your community reference takes time to respond, your application is on hold until we get a response. It is best to avoid listing those who are on break or not very active in the community. ☆ Apply for the role when you are active and dont intend to go on a break right away, respond to the project person reaching out to you within 3 days. ☆ Provide more time slots in which you can do the interview. Check all slots you can make, limited availability means a longer wait. Aged Up Teens: The teen community is your home and we consider you as a very important part of our community! You can apply as early 3 weeks before your birthday to start the process so that you can celebrate your birthday with us <3 Note: If you do not respond to the Interviewer in any step of the process for more than a week, your application will be rejected. You can of course apply again when you are more active but the process will start from step 1. These guidelines/process is structured in a way that listeners truly wanting to support the teen side can get the role asap. We understand that it can be frustrating to have to wait for your application to be processed, especially if you are an aged up teen. If you consider these tips, together we can ensure your application is processed asap. ------------------------- This post is brought to you by the Teen Transitioning Program. ...See more Hi all, As you may know, we have been working on optimizing and strengthening the Adult-Teen Listener Program. The Adult-Teen Listener Program is a key project to support the teen community. I appreciate all ATLs and Teens for sharing their feedback and inputs to improve the ATL Program. Here are the first round of key updates ⏩ [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/]Updated the requirements to become ATL [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/BecomeAnAdultTeenListenerATLSupportTheTeenCommunity_292412/] We simplified and made the requirements easier than before. Earlier one of the key criteria was one has to be in a leadership role before becoming an Adult-Teen Listener. But, now it is no longer required. However, as part of the ATL progress, within 3 months of becoming ATL, one would need to apply to take a role of their choice. We would help and support you pick and decide the leadership role you may want to try to support the teen community. ⏩Created Frequently Asked Questions Post We have created a FAQ post to share the answer to the common questions we receive from applicants and the community when they apply to become ATL. Check here the FAQ post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/AdultTeenListenerProgram_2487/FAQsAdultTeenListenerProgram_292998/]. If any questions that are not covered in the post, please do let us know, and we will answer them. ⏩Restructure of ATL-related forums. To make the navigation easier, we divided the ATL and related programs into three key categories: * For information and Updates related to Adult-Teen Listener, check Listener Learning and Journey Community. [https://www.7cups.com/home/listenerjourney/] * For information and Updates related to Teen Transitioning Mentor Program, check Listener Learning and Journey Community. [https://www.7cups.com/home/listenerjourney/] * For information and Updates related to Aging up and Support, check General Support Community. [https://www.7cups.com/home/generalsupport/] The goal of this restructuring is to provide all information and updates to the relevant groups effectively. ⏩Created 3 Months Checklist To support our new Adult-Teen Listeners, we created a 3 months checklist that includes certain goals that an ATL can work towards in the span of three months. The goal is to offer a complete overview and understanding of the teen community to our ATLs and support our ATLs to support our teens. To ensure ATLs are settling into their new role and meeting expectations, the ATL program will conduct check-ins for the first 3 months. The check-in structure will work this way: * First month: Weekly check-in * Second and third months: Monthly 1-1 check-in The check-ins are essential to see how things are going and what progress has been made with the checklist goal mentioned above. ⏩Badge Updates We updated the badge privileges. Along with being able to join the teen community, the ATL badge will also allow an ATL to join the Teen Listeners Group Chat. Earlier a secondary badge- Peter Pan used to give that access but now it won’t be needed. With one badge, an ATL will be able to support teen members as well as learn and share with the teen listeners community as well. With all these ongoing changes and updates, the goal is to make the ATL program available to all listeners who are willing to support teens and in return strengthen and scale up the support for our teen community. We will keep re-iterating and strengthening the process I will appreciate all your help and support to bring more support for our teens.

...See more Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I wanted to introduce to you a part of a project that we have been working on for the past couple of weeks. Over time, we have had the pleasure to see listeners turn into Adult-Teen Listeners, lending an ear to both sides of the community. ATL's have been a big pillar of support to the teenie town and the entire 7 Cups community is extremely grateful for that. So it was only fair we did something in return! Sometimes, being a new ATL can be overwhelming. There are many things that open up to you as an ATL, in terms of chatrooms, leadership roles, members, etc. It can be a lot to take in and for that, @Sher217 had a vision that I was extremely thankful I could be a part of. So let me present to you...an Adult-Teen Starters Guide [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AOa8xcOu87TJmwiI1abefjc7p75qp2X-rhYbn4Afk-A/edit?usp=sharing]! This guide is meant to be your companion into the Adult-Teen world. It comprises information pertaining to roles, new things you will notice on your dashboard as well as overall changes you might see in the community, team information, leadership, new chatrooms, and a lot more, to give you an idea of what it means to become an Adult-Teen Listener. We understand that the process to become one can be scary in itself so hopefully, this guide can help you clarify things as you settle into the role. Please do let us know what you think, any suggestions, feedback, concerns - whatever it may be, in this thread or even in our PMs. We strive to improve this guide as we grow the ATL community. You can find the guide >HERE [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AOa8xcOu87TJmwiI1abefjc7p75qp2X-rhYbn4Afk-A/edit?usp=sharing]< _______________________________________________________________________ An extra big shoutout to @Sher217 - this wouldn't have been possible without them and the effort they have put in to create this magic. I am even excited to say that there's a lot more coming from them to make the transition process within the community easy and smooth, so, stay tuned! Also, thanks @Mimi, @Bookworm4 - your support was everything and it helped us create this. And also, thank you @SuryanshSingh for answering all my questions, your patience is honestly a virtue. ------------------------- This post is brought to you by the Teen Transitioning Program.
