Community Homepage Updates: Coming Soon!
Hi everyone,
We have another exciting update launching soon - hopefully next week! Our community homepage is getting revamped on the web version and will now replace the /home and /forum pages.

Some other key updates to look out for include:
- Easier exploration and discoveries of communities - which will be expanding soon during our forum restructuring process currently underway!
- The ability to view threads on the same page, as well as heart and comment from that page including an expanded view of content.
@SoulfullyAButterfly
Cannot wait to see the new update! Thank you so much 💛
@SoulfullyAButterfly
Could there be a "Goal Setting" sub-community. The idea is to invite witnesses to a goal you may set for yourself. (Small goals, like "washing dishes daily") Or larger and long term goals. Sharing successes and setbacks alike. Get Encouragement, Ideas and Witnesses to your trials, tribulations and accomplisments.
Hey @IsayUncle, nice to meet you. I like the idea of a "goal-setting" forum, where we can set goals, have people cheer us and just some way to keep ourselves more accountable, aye? That'll be amazing indeed.
Wondering if a sub forum from the Positivity and Gratitude sub community can be used for this? Perhaps the Inspiration & Motivation sub-forum or the Moving Forward & Milestones could be helpful? More sub-forums Here. There's also similar forum spaces for goal setting, discussions, inviting a buddy to pair up with in the healthy living sub community also, Here.
If you're further interested, you can submit this form to suggest a new sub-community.
Hope this helps. ❤
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou I think we had an area at one point, although not a full subcommunity. Threads seem to now be under getting unstuck in General Support.
@AffyAvo
Ooh that's interesting to know, Affy, I need to do some forum-digging now lol. Maybe we can have that as a sub-forum again though? 😮 Could be nice to have a place all reserved for "goal-setting", encouragement and similar, I feel.
@CheeryMango @theriverissinging what do y'all think? ❤
@AffyAvo
Thanks for sharing, I'll check that out.👍
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
Thank you for a wonderful response. I thought there might be something similar allready out there. I will review those other sub communities this weekend and see if they fit well. They are great suggestions so I will definetly check them out.
@IsayUncle
Aw you're very welcome, I'm glad this was helpful. ❤ Do let us know, if there's anything else too we can assist with.

@IsayUncle
To start with explaining the terms - It totally makes sense you are confused! many of us are far from consistent and use unofficial terms.
Technically 7 Cups as a whole is a community of people. So things like Anxiety Support, Depression Support, General Support are subcommunities. Many of us get lazy and drop the 'sub'.
Then to add to the confusion, technically a subcommunity encompasses everything for that topic. So Anxiety Support has a teen chatroom, and adult chatroom, forums, a Q&A page, resources, etc. But when many people refer to a subcommunity they specifically are referring to the forums, as if you go to the anxiety subcommunity main page the forums are what that page seems to be about.
A group of forum threads in a subcommunity is technically called a category. So Getting Unstuck is a category in the General Support Subcommunity. Many of us use words interchangeably. Off the top of my head I use category, subforum, section, subsection, etc.
Subcommunities didn't always exist on 7cups, we used to have forums that were just the forums, and there was no subcommunity page where someone could easily see resources, leaders, etc. The subcommunities were introduced gradually. For quite a while we had a number of forum categories (and 1 level above that, for example, the Anxiety forums overall) that didn't belong to a subcommunity. From what I remember this was the case for the goals forums. Eventually, all forums were placed into a subcommunity, sometimes that meant having a new one and other times it meant doing things like moving Goals to the General Support Subcommunity. Some of these more broad subcommunities then looked at all of the categories they had - it seemed like too many, so they removed some and moved threads around to the categories that remained.
The Goals threads I referenced earlier were ones I found by searching for Goals and filtering to threads I had participated in. I wouldn't have known they were in Getting Unstuck otherwise! I see some of them around pages 4-6 of that category.
Now for the idea for a Goals Subcommunity
I think it would be awesome to have! Getting a new subcommunity can be difficult though. It's more involved than just creating a new subcommunity, we need the volunteers for it too. One example for this is moderating the forums - some people can only moderate within a particular subcommunity.
Since Goals doesn't have it's own category right now, what I would recommend is starting with that. I think the Positivity & Gratitude Subcommunity is ideal for now. I also looked at the Moving Forward & Milestones Category - it seemed to be intended for various projects and teams on 7cups to share accomplishments, but it's not really being used for that. So changing that title to Goals & Accomplishments is one possibly. Hopefully that area can grow a bit and with interested volunteers then creating a new Subcommunity could occur. That's just my thoughts on it though, you can definitely go ahead and fill out the form that was provided for suggesting a new Subcommunity!
@theriverissinging @CheeryMango would love your thoughts on the above paragraph.
Whatever gets decided, if we have a Category for goals I would be willing to help the appropriate threads that are currently under Getting Unstuck - I don't think that's an idea place.
@AffyAvo
THIS IS FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for being clear, concise and taking the time to explain. For nine months I could not find any buttons or selections to bring me to the sub-communities. I thoght they were secret meeting rooms for the elders and veterens LOL, just kidding! The blue box section just needed to be labeled as "sub-communities" instead of "communities".
Now that I understand it, it appears the NEW homepage is going to change things significantly so I'll wait until that rolls out before pursuing any suggestions. BUT IF anyone with power reads this, please try to put in a GOAL section (Not just a thread) into the new page. Lack of people to run it / or oversee it is a real problem that I do understand though.
Thanks again Affy! Have a great day.
@IsayUncle I'm glad all of that made sense to you!
I think there's a lot of insider, in-group type of language that we do use on 7cups at times and after a while many of us get used to it and don't even realize how confusing it can be to someone new coming in! And then when getting into the nitty-gritty, there's so much I doubt anyone here knows all of it!
So definitely feel free to ask questions!
As for Goals, I think we can figure out a dedicated place one way or another!
@IsayUncle I just looked at the form. PMing a listener is best if you need help (I'm a member, you can't message me).
Anything that mentions a feed or hashtags in that form is out of date. The feed was a separate thing that was removed years ago.
@AffyAvo
Hey again, thanks for the tip about hashtags and feeds and for these listeners. @theriverissinging @CheeryMango. I'll probably talk with them after the new homepage rolls out.😄😜👍
@IsayUncle
Happy to help, Isay, and that makes sense really. I'm all in for helpful suggestions for the community and I hope yours are reviewed and reverted by the admin team soonish. ❤ Affy did a great job explaining about the different names and such hehe, the confusion is so real and understandable haha, we kind of use most of these terms interchangeably but ofcourse if you have any questions, or think I can help with anything else, feel free to drop a message. ❤
@SoulfullyAButterfly yayy! ❤

@Sunisshiningandsoareyou Lol! I was thinking something similar :) But I have a small feeling of dread tbh :P
@mytwistedsoul haha I can relate with that dreadful feeling lol, but I still rolled with it xD "freedom of expression" hellooooo 😂 and wee *high fives* soul, no kidding, I had a feeling you'd reply if you see this and voila!✨
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou 😁 *high five* Too good of an opportunity to miss! ❤️
@mytwistedsoul yay haha! 😆❤
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou have to admit I'm not crazy about it 😬
@mytwistedsoul about what? 😮
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou The new homepage lol - just take some getting used to I guess
@mytwistedsoul Aw you're definitely not alone with that, Soul lol. Does take time getting used to heh! 🥲
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou change is just hard
Love the melty emoji! 🙂
I cannot wait to see it !
I wish the app had more cap abilities then the web page though :(
@SoulfullyAButterfly
Thanks for the information, sounds exiting!
@SoulfullyAButterfly
we just want dark mode for the site
@AdrienTheWolf The Opera browser has a Dark Mode extension that works on 7 Cups. There might be other extensions for other browsers, but that's the only one I've tried.
Charlie
Losing the /forum pages makes me a bit nervous but hopefully it all looks great once the change goes through!
@AffyAvo
I'm a 9 month newbie. In your previous post (which was Fantastic), you clarifed a nine month mystery.... where were the sub-communities? It was a true mystery because the "blue box section" was labeled "Communities" and then going into one of those you had "the Forums" and then "the Threads." IF the blue box section was labeled "Sub-Communities" it would have all made sense to a newbie like me.
Now that I do understand it... I also fear the loss of the forums. They are like storefronts, you know where to go to get what you need. I'm now very curious about the new homepage layout.
@IsayUncle Thanks for chiming in. I think that's awesome feedback to hear that the community/subcommunity inconsistency has been really confusing. Hopefully we can make it more welcoming and less confusing!
Forums will definitely still exist, I didn't mean to worry anyone about that! I've just been around for a lot of changes over time and sometimes we lose little things when the formatting changes. I'm quite confident the home page and individual subcommunity pages will all still give forum access. I use this link a lot https://www.7cups.com/forum/ that only has forums - to do things like sort by new threads or search forums. We will see when the update comes I guess and if something useful does get lost we will likely get it back although it can take a while depending on how much work is needed to get it with new formatting.
@AffyAvo
I just wrote you a post and it's gone. Short & Sweet version. Thank you. I wrote my first post in Goals and Accomplishment. And I'm glad not to lose forums, but I know what you mean about changes like this. Sometims things get shuffled about and it could take some time and effort to sort it. It'' all work out for the best, I'm sure.
@AffyAvo this link now direct to this new community page, the forum search option disappeared too
@SoulfullyAButterfly dont like it, it seems at every update you remove the most essential features
Thank you I am looking forward to seeing how it all works 😊
