What helps me is walks on the beach, mindfulness and yoga, journal writing or simply sitting with a good book outside on my porch enjoying outside
@amiablePeace77 I have not always dealt well with overwhelming emotions. Sometimes I have held things in for a long time and then exploded. 😣 Most times taken it out on myself. I’d love to say I’m all better now, but I’m depends on the day. I still feel like I’m juggling too much at times. But on my good days, I am able to think of alternate reasons for things and wait to find out more. It may not be the best way to handle things, but sometimes I create distance until I can get a better understanding. Sometimes I really am able to let things go. Other times they linger.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas in glad you posted it 💖 it's always good to get your true feelings out 💖 hugs you tightly 💖 I love you 💖
@Tinywhisper11 Thank you ❤️ I’ve missed you! Hoping you’re doing ok. I love you too!
@amiablePeace77
Space.
I need to be alone.
Rest.
Processing immediately.
Not letting things build up.
Exercise.
Music.
Prayer 💚🤗
@Amanda84 You have really great skills. I want to be better at not holding things in. I get afraid of how people will react. Do you have any advice for how to not worry about that?
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas
Ah thank you!
I guess, with experience and time, you realise the only opinions that matter are your own.
You cannot control other people's reactions, only yours.
I learnt how to work on identifying my triggers and putting daily coping mechanisms in place.
I get too emotional, so I don't like yo be around people when I'm processing.
I like to write it all down and then burn the letter, I don't like to go over something again and again, when it's done, it's done.
I give myself space when I feel anger and or tension building up inside me.
Then I can react calmly, instead of reacting just for the sake of an argument 💚
@Amanda84 I am similar with a lot of this. I do tend to go over things again and again though. 😫 It would be less draining on me if I didn’t do that. I always think I can figure out a way. Or an alternate way if I’m afraid. Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤️
@Amanda84
Your thought process is really great 👍
I love reading your texts, always. 💖
@SimplyCompassionate
That's so nice, thank you 💚
Im not sure if its emotions or what s happening in my head .. but whatever it is I'm not handling it well..
@neonWriter8115
It’s a tough situation when we find it difficult to handle our emotions and they take over. Have you tried to journal about what you feel or talk to a listener about what's going on in your life?
This is a link to the 7cups self-help guide Help Managing Emotions | 7 Cups Help Guides.
Hey it is a tough situation..
Im in therapy..im still struggling but its hard for me to talk to her . Ive handled everything for 50 years.. so this is all new.. im a spicy taquito for sure..she keeps telling me she knows im gonna get through it . But I dont think she realizes just how exhausted I am from fighting all the battles..I know im going to get through it but getting to that point is really a battle and a half. Most of the time I'm numb and my head is cloudy or that the life feels like its slowly draining out of me .. or im in a panicked state. Thanks
@neonWriter8115
When one has fought so many battles as you did the time comes that you just want a break from everything, maybe not even being motivated by just rest and peace. You know that you eventually will get through and that is good but right now it seems that you just need peace. 💙
Yes that's why I sometimes go in and just say I need a "quiet day" and she knows that means the world has gotten too loud for me again..happens a lot.
@amiablePeace
Just home after night shift, bookmarked the guide for later, I've got a feeling this will also help me tremendously 👍👍👍
@amiablePeace77
I take a pause for a few minutes, or hours, to give myself time to process this and to prevent myself being reactive.
I talk it out to anyone / anywhere possible. Or write it out.
As a last resort, taking a walk always helps me to regulate it.
@amiablePeace77 I isolate myself, cry alot, hide under my blanket and try not to think. Then when I calmed down a bit I try to think of all the good things in my life now😁💖 that mostly works for me 😁
Hugs Ami 💖 hope your ok? 💖
@Tinywhisper11
Nice to see you again in the forum! 😃 Letting it out with a good cry and then focusing on the good things in life sounds helpful!
@amiablePeace77 it really does help😁💖 I missed you💖 gives you a giant tiny hug 💗 I love you 💖
@amiablePeace77
I'm still not dealing with my emotions. Old habits are hard to break.
@courageouspanda2006
Habits cannot be broken in short time, but they can be changed, and you deserve that change! Please hang in there and reach out for support in sharing circle or connect with a listener or a therapist.
@amiablePeace77
I've already tried therapy. For just shy of one year and two therapist. I was referred to an EMDR specialist but that's not covered by my insurance.
Speaking of insurance, I felt like I was trying out for the circus with all of the hoops I had to jump through.
I have come to accept that it is what it is. I have nothing to look forward to. No goals, no dreams. Just existing. Eat, sleep, work, repeat.
@courageouspanda2006
Sadly I feel similar, recently started to face up to it and considering therapy.
@courageouspanda2006 @RunningMachine
Sorry that things are so rough for you both. When you could choose one thing to change in your life right now, what would it be?
@amiablePeace77
I'm not sure anymore. I'm just so numb to everything.
@amiablePeace77
I can't eliminate my health risk entirely, not in my control but I can work on feeling lonely, 7 Cups is helping and I'm looking for group activities I can try too.
@amiablePeace77
How are you dealing with overwhelming emotions?
In certain situations, that can depend on what the overwhelming emotions are or what the situation is. But in an overall sense I generally don’t feel comfortable or good when I feel like I’m being overwhelmed by anything. I generally don’t deal with being overwhelmed in a good way bc it brings me stress and sometimes frustration, it can also bring me anxiety sometimes too.
What helps you?
Things like taking my mind off of it and focusing on other things like for example journaling whatever overwhelming emotions I’m having and what I think is the cause(s) for me having them at that time, writing a song about those emotions, listening to music, taking a walk, being on this site, and other things like that
@akunknown
Those are great things to help yourself! Journaling can give much insight and detect patterns. Expressing your emotions in songs sounds really good and I could imagine it's very helpful. I used to write stories about them, it also helped.
@amiablePeace77
Thank you! And yes I agree with you on your points about journaling and writing songs, both of which are very helpful for me
@amiablePeace77
I feel a bit of a hypocrite, after 10 years of helping others in Thrombosis groups manage theirs I was effectively running away and hiding from mine.
It took a a problematic friendship that started a couple of years back that has recently started to resolve and then health anxiety related reaction to a new managers decisiona at work for me, accept I need to confront them head on. Finding and joining 7 Cups is helping with that...
I'm not spiritual, have tries mindfulness many times since 2010 and struggled with anything beyond breath or body scans. Recently read a book on neuroplasticity, whicj appeals to my logical reasoning mind and I've started to engage more with gratitude and self compassion mindfulness and journalling.
I was close to reacting in an angry manner to aforementioned manager night before last, I stopped myself and let it go, I was chuffed, maybe there is hope for me 😁😁😁
